The staff was absolutely wonderful, and I didn't expect any of the noise other people complained about
The photos oversell the place, it's not nearly as cosy as depicted, there were no hammocks, small berries litttered the ground (you had to be very careful when walking around), it was uncomfortably hot during the day but the AC wasn't allowed on, the location was pretty terrible

The room had a fan and AC and was a good size. The room was clean. It was secure.
The location for the beach and nice restaurants is a bit far, particularly walking in the heat. The beds were not very comfortable, the single one was like a bag of springs. There was a lot of light shining through top windows with no curtains. There is a Coca Cola distribution centre across the road which causes a lot of noise both day and night. Our room was not ready when we checked in and we had to wait an hour for it. The bathroom window had no curtain, you can see in.

Mayela is such a sweet host, she's a beautiful and kind woman !! Great location, super lovely house. Many cats, loved it ! I can only recommend you to go there !
I didnt pay attention when I booked but no AC in my room : was very very hot at night to sleep, pay attention before booking if it's during hot season.

The staff was very helpful, the garden is a great place to relax ( they even provide the repellent). Our room was beautiful, spacious, and full of light. At the end of the balcony so private as well.
As mentioned in some other reviews, there can be some noise from the nearby street but we didnt find it too bothersome.

Rooms have beautiful design and there is cool, green garden where we could chill in the evenings. Mayela is amazing host, very sociable and helpful. she let us take a shower and leave luggage before our night bus. Also there are two cats and four kittens at the property that stole my heart and made my stay ☺️ all of us loved this place, hope to be back one day! Thank you for your hospitality again!

The location is great, the stuff is excellent! They really helped us navigate the area and find things to do and how to get there! In the end of our stay they let us leave our luggages there until the time our bus was leaving! They are really welcome and kind people, always there to help and advise you! I totally recommend it! Hands up to all of you and keep up the good job!

Ver nice hosts, nice room, AC, nice open kitchen area, nice garden and so on :)
What might bother some people are the moscitos and the noise on the street from the trucks, but we really enjoyed the place :)

Good location about 15 minutes walk from the two best swimming beaches in Puerto Escondido and about 10 min walk to the bus station.
Big room with lots of natural light.
The host was very nice and relaxed and let us check in early when our bus arrived in the morning.
No hot water.
There was no cleaning during our 4 night stay so everything got quite sandy. A quick sweep at some point would have been good.

Mayela and her family could not have been more helpful and welcoming if they tried. Mayela went out of her way to be a 5* host!
We had a lovely room which was huge and also the added bonus of aircon, which was definitely needed during our stay!
The house was a beautiful, hidden oasis in the very centre of the old town of Puerto Escondido - perfect for hiding from other tourists and feeling as though you were living amongst the locals.
The noise at night was quite unbearable at times, and that’s saying something when we live in the very centre of London & we’re not light sleepers! The property appears to be opposite a Coca Cola depot and throughout the night there are non-stop deliveries, where the drivers leave their engines on / are constantly revving. We’d recommend bringing some earplugs!

Quiet and well located in centro near the bus station. Not touristy, but close to essentials (pharmacies, markets, hospital, etc) and easy access to beaches.
Kudos to Mayela and family for being nice and accommodating. I got heat exhaustion and stomach problems and they let me rest in my room until time to catch my night bus. Also have a share kitchen to cook and store food, which was great since I can’t eat out at all. Much appreciated for the hospitality!
Would’ve been nice if room has AC; there are fans but heat in Puerto Escondido is a killer
Maybe some window screens would be good, as I got quite some mosquito bites in the common area, rooms are bug free (but I couldn’t open the window coz of potential mosquitoes)

The room was bright spacious and clean. Location was good and the garden was great. Host was also extremely helpful and responsive. Would recommend to anyone. Also the AC was really nice with the humidity at night and wifi worked well throughout
Only small issue was the common kitchen and dining room had quite a few flies and mosquitos

Wow, what a gorgeous place to stay!
A beautiful family house, built like the perfect guest house with a lush and shady garden with hammocks and tables and a big shared kitchen.
The rooms are spacious and clean and the hostess Mayela is such a sweetheart, she really made us feel welcome and went out of her way to return an item i left at the property.
Casa Santaella is located in the non-touristic part of town which was perfect for us, we always like to check out the local vibes, the mercado is only a few blocks away and the beaches are within walking distances. We met some lovely people that were staying too, all in all it feels like home from home.

Absolutely gorgeous property (even better than the photos). So much love and care has gone into the little details around the accommodation. The ceiling fan in our room was also a really welcome feature. Reallt wish we stayed at this beautiful place longer - we will be back!
Nothing really!

Mayela was the absoluut sweetest most caring host. I got sick during my stay and she went to the pharmacy for me and made sure I was ok. Casa Santaella feels very homey. The only thing is it’s quite far to get to the main beach / tourist area of La Punta so you’ll have to take a collectivo or taxi.
Location was further away from the main area but the collectivo ride was a fun experience too.

The property is really nice. The hosts are super welcome and friendly. Gave very good recommendations. And I really love the Mexican boho design in the rooms. And the kitty in the yard stole my heart. My recommendation from the heart.

Amazing place to spend some days on the non touristic spot in Puerto Escondido, the garden is wil full of plants and trees, even a mango tree is there to pick up fresh mango for your morning juice, also some kitten to play with. Mayella, the ower of the place is really helpful and welcoming, I felt totaly at home. Would for sure stay there again.
The rooms are also beautifuly decorated, comfy and spacious.
Thank you Mayella, see you next time!

The hosts are super friendly and try to make you feel home, they also have cute dogs which welcomed me everytime I entered the door.
Mayella, the Manager of the hostel also showed us some local places, so we had a guided tour with her.
The kitchen is not ready yet, but they do their best by offering dishes and a fridge to store your food.
The courtyard is a small jungle, with flowers and a few animals which don't annoy you while you're hanging around. It is a beautiful place to relax and close to many beaches (from 10 till 30 minutes walking).
Totally recommend it!

Nice garden. OK location.
The owners want to make easy money using their rundown house and broken old furniture, but they have total disregard for the comfort of their guests. Shameful! The beds and mattresses are in terrible condition, wires sticking out, stains. No A/C and zero airflow through the window due to the overgrown garden blocking all air. No window and no ventilation in the tiny, boiling hot bathroom. The owners keep birds and roosters which scream all night. The property is advertised as smoke-free, yet someone is always smoking in the garden. In short, the place is impossibly hot, smelly, noisy, and physically torturous.

It's a family owned Casa, very authentic and relaxed. Everyone is helpful and kind, Mayela who runs the Casa is friendly, speaks excellent English, showed us where the best food was at the mercado. We planned to stay a few nights, we ended up staying almost two weeks. It felt like home away from home.
