Amazing place, beautiful setting and great value. Shower plug was blocked so ended up flooding the bathroom floor as it was a wet room style shower but apart from that very nice.
2.5
Comfortable, clean, plenty parking, ticks all my boxes for a business trip.

Rooms very dated and in serious need of refurbishment. The windows are old and rotten which made the room very cold. There are wooden floors too which make the room colder and the floor boards are extremely noisy. A heater was provided so I am guessing that the hotel knows about this issue. The ceilings are high and the lights were covered in cobwebs and had obviously not been cleaned for some time. Old wooden bed frame that looked like it has seen better days. Tiles in bathroom were chipped. This is not a 4 star hotel!

Great location lovely comfortable room. A nice stay.

Placed on the top floor with no elevators (room 24), no shower only a bath with attachments. Could hear every word of conversations in the room next door, and I either had the BFG next door to me or a herd of elephants as every time they walked about their room my floor shook. Throughout the night you coild hear the pipes and boiler going as was in a closet in my room. Wallpaper all ripped, damp on the plaster walls.....I could go on....

Quirky hotel with faded charm. Lovely grounds of the weather was better!

Okay but not great.

The hotel was tired and needed a lot of work
but the staff were great and the breakfast fantastic

Room not clean, hairs over the bed, skylight had thick cobwebs hanging from it in the bathroom. Bathroom door was heavy water damaged in bottom corner, cracks in walls. Surfaces in need of a recoat of paint. Material on headboard was threadbare. Only saving grace to a point was the comfort of the bed. Overall the hotel did not appear to be like the pictures in any way shape or form. Bitterly disappointed as this was booked as part of our trip to london, my wifes 30th birthday. Dampener put on our few days away

We only stayed in this hotel for 2 hours before checking out and staying in another hotel nearby. The rooms were filthy with cobwebs and were in serious need to maintenance. The windows were rotting and covered in moss, there were dirty cup stains that had not been cleaned up. We were unable to unpack as no drawers, only 3 coathangers in the wardrobe, but there was a massive chunk taken out of the wall and dust all over the wardrobe so would not out our clothes in there. Carpets were filthy so could not take our shoes off in the room. Staircases to get to our rooms were unsafe and too narrow, especially where trying to navigate with suitcases - very unsafe and could not hold onto bannister as looked like it had not been cleaned for years! The room was so small we could almost touch either side with our arms out and the bed was up against the wall, so if I needed to get up during the night, I would have had to climb over my husband! This was supposed to be a 5th wedding anniversary treat, but left us feeling very disappointed. We booked into a Holiday Inn nearby and had a lovely, clean 3 nights that we should have had here. They are now refusing to refund us our money for the 3 nights so have escalated the complaint with Hotels.com to get us a full refund as this hotel is not a 4 star, I would give it 2 at the most. PS the air conditioning unit was a fan that was left in the wardrobe!!!

Just a 1 night stay before a flight the next morning. Quiet and comfortable

From reading the responses to the reviews on here, nobody really cares about feedback and it doesn't alter anything so why bother.

Overall good stay, nice surroundings and garden room. Only thing you shoud be aware of is drain blockage in one of the rooms.

I've stayed here numerous times over recent years and it saddens me that each visit shows its aging. It's the small things that now let it down, like showers not working properly, loo roll holders coming out of the wall, windows with gaps and plants growing inot them from the outside. Also, my score for staff was mainly due to two interactions: one receptionist, long blonde hair who was on the main desk on Sunday morning (25th). When i walked in the main doors to go through to breakfast, I said good morning and received no repsonse. She heard ne becuase she looked at me, but I didn't even get a welcoming smile. The second interaction waa at breakfast. On arrival there weren't many laid tables free so we chose to sit on a long table where the last two seats had place setting. We actually sat down, put our belongings down, to then be surrounded by staff telling us to move as the table was reserved. There was no reserved sign and thia was around 9.45am - breakfast finished at 10am. We left around 10.15 and noone had come to the reserved table. It was very peculiar. I'm unlikely to stay again because its coming up to autumn / winter and i really think the place needs closing for some winter restoration time.

The grounds and exterior of the property were beautiful but the interior and rooms were very tired and needed more attention paid to the standard of cleanliness. The stairs were in desperate need of a hoover. The rooms were adequate but dated and in areas in poor condition. We booked a suite with a bath in the room and did not receive this. The staff we did meet were unhelpful in the bar area. I hope in time the property can be renovated to match the stunning surroundings in which it sits, in which case I would return, otherwise I would look elsewhere.

Limescale on kettle and taps, poo in the loo, dirty carpets .. shame as beautiful building. That said bedding was clean..

Lovely grounds. Perfect location! I probably wouldn’t go for the garden views next time due to the room not being soundproof and noisy surroundings. Also the extractor fan in the washroom was extremely loud and the tap for shower was broken. Couldn’t get the temperature right, it was either too hot or too cold. As it was late, we didn’t bother asking to be moved to another room.
1.5
Beautiful building, outfitted with fairly standard hotel rooms. The on-site restaurant seemed very disorganized, but the food was decent enough once we got it.
2.5
Wonderful hotel. The environment and the view from the room is amazing. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would love to come again with my partner.

The hotel and the building it self is beautiful the staff are amazing n friendly. The room which I had paid for was the junior suite which was huge n lovely. The only problem is that the building and room is quite ancient n old looking so something r quite old and the room itself is quite out dated. The surrounding is great for kids to run around but there is so much poo everywhere it would b great if someone cleaned it as every step we took had poo n that discussing apart from that its was a pleasant stay and my kids enjoyed n so did we

I selected this hotel as their web site claims that all 39 rooms have a/c. Turns out they don’t!
Standard rooms do not have it. Despite speaking to reception, they would not change my room. Oddly enough I could book a premium room for the same night so it wasn’t because they were full.
Dinner was a complete farce. I asked in the dining room if it was ok to eat outside on the patio as it was so hot and was told that would be fine. After 15 mins I was still sitting there with no one interested in taking my order.
I eventually found the bar and got myself a coke and ordered some food and made it clear I would be sitting outside in the bar area.
It took an hour - yea an hour for burger and chips to arrive!
The food looked less than adequate. The burgers had carbon on them from the grill not being cleaned down, hardly any salad on the bun, and the fries looked like oven chips. Not what I expected for £19.
It took a further 15 mins for salt, pepper, sauce, napkin and cutlery. Too late - I had eaten most of my food by then.

Beautiful property, only downside was the hornet that invaded at 10pm. But it’s in the countryside and receptionist offered bug spray, if necessary and reported it to the maintenance team to investigate. All in all, lovely and very convenient for LHR

Old world charm but a bit run down. The extensive property grounds provided excellent stroll around lake and forest. The restaurant really enjoyable

The location of the hotel is lovely. But the accommodation was very poor. The room was had damp and a mould patch. The floor was old and needed to be replaced. Receptionist woman and manager unhelpful. The bed sheets were damp. It was the worst stay of my life. I would not advise the garden view room.
3.0
The grounds are well maintained but the room, 46, was small and the light fittings were loose so I didn't use them. The shower was overly complicated to use and no clear guidance on how to operate the overhead shoer head....

Bed was so soft you could feel the springs, we checked out a day early as it was so bad

Booked as a night away for part of my Step Dads 70th birthday present. Both my parents loved the hotel and grounds.

The decor in the rooms was very tired and not good. We found a stick on eyelid on the bed cover, clearly not been changed from the previous guest.

Absolutely disgusting. No one at check in we waited around for around 15 mins before seeing any staff. Checked into room 31 gatehouse and as soon as i walked in there was a horrible damp smell so went straight to reception to get the room changed. Again no one at reception and finally i was told theres no other rooms available to check out. Hotel wasnt able to help with any refunds but i left the hotel straight away. This hotel should be 1 star rating. All of the photos availble are not true and very misleading advertising.

Had so much potential but man is it overpriced. The property is so beautiful but very outdated. We stayed in one of the garden view rooms and it felt like a cheap motel. Requested a crib and it wasn't set up even after waiting over 2 hours for a room (every guest we saw checking in was told the rooms weren't ready).
The restaurant is the definition of overpriced (£12 for a ham & cheese sandwich) and the service was terrible. We sat down and waited for 20 minutes to even have a waiter come over to take our order. Another 35 minutes and our food FINALLY came. Again we has 2 sandwiches!!!! But at least the server came put with the check in record time!!
Any way, not worth go anywhere but here. Don't let the pictures fool you!

Disappointing
Down graded from a garden room to a tiny attic room with awful facilities

Stayed in room 25
At the top of steep uneven stairs
Awful room in the eves with a sloped ceiling above the bed so you can’t sit up in bed!
Definitely not as described when booking

The gardens are beautiful and the restaurant was great.

Room was awful, it did not feel clean the shower power was none existent and almost dribbled out, bathroom bin had not been emptied from previous occupants, cigarette butts outside of window in clear view!! The bed squeaked at every movement and the floor in our room moved when the occupants in the next room walked around their room. However the staff were very friendly and the breakfast was nice. The grounds of the hotel were very pretty and even managed to see some deers. Unfortunately this is not enough for us to stay or recommend !!

I parked inside the property and they gave me a ticket. I’m going trough all this emails with Travelocity to get my refund from €35 that I was wrongly charged. Very disappointing. My air conditioner wasn’t working and I have to swap room twice. They touch my stuff without my permission and left some stuff in the other room and I have to be searching for my stuff. They gave me a complementary breakfast but the fact that they gave me a ticket took away the breakfast. I’m very disappointed with this hotel.
