Iconic Dartmouth House with Enchanting Garden

Would 100% recommend a stay at this property. The design and decor has been really thought through. A beautiful home that has everything you'll need for a comfortable holiday. The bubbles and other treats were a real bonus, including the secret garden. The owners clearly care about the people staying at their home enjoing the whole experience. Views are wonderful and just a short walk away from town. However, it is quite hilly and there are lots of steps, including stairs in property. A bonus for me as need to keep fit. Got talking to some neighbours who were very helpful about the roads, which can be quite nerve racking in some places, and also happy to make recommendations about where to go. There are so many great things to do in Dartmouth. I Wo
uld definitely recommend Coleton fishacre, an art
deco property over at Kingswear.

The house was gorgeous, exactly as described, it was spotlessly clean and well equipped. The garden is delightful, on warm evenings it provides a wonderful place to enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy the views of Dartmouth and the river. A fantastic place to spend a week in South Hams and the communication by Dart Valley Cottages was comprehensive and very helpful. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

Comfortable and well appointed property in a great location. Easy access to town facilities and some of the areas tourist attractions either on foot, by boat or by train. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Stunning property with lovely welcoming touches. It's very central with incredible views of Dartmouth, Kingswear and the river. Lots of steps but obviously that's the price you pay for the amazing views. Good to also have the garden area
which is private with space to sit, or sunbathe and a conservatory if the weather's cooler or wet. We had a fabulous week and would definitely visit again.

The Skinny House was everything we’d hoped for from the moment we opened the front door ! It was beautiful and extremely well appointed inside. From the modern well equipped kitchen to the fabulous lounge with the most stunning views across Dartmouth . There was absolutely nothing else one could wish for from this delightful house. Extremely comfortable, modern and bright . A 5 minute walk down some steps into the centre of town. The secret garden opposite the house , down some steps , is well hidden and an absolute treasure. We felt like we were in paradise sitting there. The house has 2 flights of stairs so you need to be fit , but well worth the exercise. I’d definitely recommend this house to anyone looking for a holiday in Dartmouth.

We really enjoyed our stay, the view from the property is wonderful.
Stayed over New Year and loved all the Christmas lights around the house and the champagne in the fridge!
The house is so well designed it doesn’t appear so narrow, we loved it.

Stayed here for a week, house is very quirky and like a tardis. Big rooms, everything you need and fantastic little garden as a bonus.
Only negatives are the fact that there is a lot of stairs in this house. Each staircase is longer than your average one and the one to the bathroom up the top is scary. It’s all part of the quirkiness of the house though.
Parking is also a bit of an issue, yes there is a small parking space and if next door are in it’s very difficult to get in and out. We didn’t move much during the week but once we did and parked overnight in the town to save any issues.
Wouldn’t recommend for elderly visitors, access to the town is steep roads or a lot of steps (70, we counted every time) we were fine but might struggle in a few years! Anywhere in Dartmouth though is a climb!
I’d stay here again without doubt and Dart Valley Cottages were again amazing!

This being our second visit to the Dartmouth area, we booked again with yourselves and found this amazing house,
Only two minute walk to Dartmouth town yet very quiet house to stay in.
The house catered you all our needs and was very well equipped to a high standard
We definitely book again,
Excellent !!

Everything about this place is perfect. The house is very special, huge for 2 of us and our doggy. Loved the views over Dartmouth and the 5 minute hop down the steps to handy M&S and the centre of lovely Dartmouth, and as for the beautiful garden... just WOW!
We stayed during 'heatwave week' and the wonderful garden was a welcome place to recover from hot days out.
The cactus-filled summer house is stunning, and although we didn't use it due to the amazing weather, I can imagine on rainy days it would be a great place to spend time - there are sun loungers, multiple seating areas, a BBQ and total privacy.
Champagne and local goodies greeted us on arrival, we found plenty of supplies in cupboards - more often holiday lets have zero supplies- things like dishwasher tablets, bin bags, toilet rolls etc
This is the nicest holiday home we've ever stayed in. Loved it!

This house has lots of great design features and benefits from a great central position overlooking Dartmouth town centre. The “secret garden” on the other side of the road was a real gem with great BBQ and indoor space available if the weather isn’t kind. There are a lot of steep steps in the house and the mezzanine bathroom at the top of the house is not for the feint hearted or young/old. The house is well provisioned and the table outside the front door was well used for breakfast and coffees. Our dog loved it too meeting all the neighbours and local dogs as they passed by.

16 Clarence Hill - Good standard cottage in a lovely town
The cottage was set over 3 floors with a further spiral stair up to a small bathroom above (gets you fit)
Very well equipped kitchen and well furnished etc.
Clarence Hill is a very narrow street (6 feet near the bottom) and still two-way, which is not really suited to wide cars. Unfortunately we scraped our car when parking in the allocated spot.
So the access and parking are our negative but everything else was good.
Dartmouth is a really quaint old town with plenty of good places to eat and drink and lovely scenery

Lovely stay.
We have stayed in the "skinny house" numerous times, the view is fantastic and with the addition of the lovely garden it is even nicer. Parking space is great too. We were lucky to have fabulous weather. Dartmouth is such a lovely place to stay.

Great Character House on a Prime Site
The house is very modern and comfortable - well appointed and furnished. Ideal postion - great views and close to all local amenities including M n S Foodhall and brarista coffee . There are three flights of stairs - those less mobile might find these a challenge but it's part of the character of the house. Parking is tight for anything medium sized and upward but we only used our car once during the week so not to much of and issue. The garden is an added bonus too. If you have a bus travel card then you can get pretty much anywhere. It's fun using the ferrires too. We have walked the Dart Valley trails and the are stunning. We will come back again.

Relaxing
16 Clarence Hill was the perfect place for us to catch up with old friends! Dartmouth is fabulous as a base for exploring Devon and the house itself was perfect for chilling with a glass of wine or two. The view from the living room is amazing and encourages you to just sit and relax. Sadly we only found the garden on the last day, I think information in the welcome pack as to where it is and the fact the gate isn't padlocked would have been extremely useful, but this didn't spoil our stay in the least. We will hopefully visit again!

Perfection
In ll the years we have been renting accommodation in England, this house has been far and away the best. From the beautifully designed house that defies expectation, to the welcome package which was abundant. This really is the most amazing place to stay, and i haven’t even mentioned the secret garden which is just , well, insanely beautiful! We will be back

Second stay at 16 Clarence Hill
This was our second stay and its in a great location, narrow street for driving but that's Dartmouth's charm! Carpet and/or stair gates at the top and bottom of the staircase leading to the bedrooms would be great, varnished wood on steep set of stairs is a bit slippery underfoot. Would recommend this place for your holiday.

The customer service has been great we will definitely be coming back!

Another great stay.
We have stayed at this property several times (5 or 6) so i am sure that speaks volumns. The house is very well equipped and furnishings comfortable and good quality appliances. The view is fantastic, never tire of looking out of the window. Parking is good but a narrow road down so if you have a large vehicle do check you will manage ok. (we have a golf) Always a good service from Dart Valley Cottages. Very happy, thank you. (Be back soon!!)

Views and location
An excellent, quirky holiday home in a great location with the added bonus of a parking space. The views across the town and estuary are stunning (but beware of all the steps and stairs!). The house is well designed with quality furniture and fittings and a very comfortable bed.

Review
We had a lovely stay at the property. It was lovely we could have the dogs to join us on our holiday. The property offers fantastic views of the river Dart and Dartmouth town. The location is great with a short walk into the town and having a parking space at the property was an added bonus (especially in regatta week).
If staying with younger children be mindful of the windows in the 1st floor lounge there are no additional safety features preventing the windows from opening more if taken off the catch.
The beds were comfortable. The en-suite in the main bedroom is a little tricky to access on the spiral staircase and there is limited head room in the shower. Although the main bathroom on the first floor offers a large walk in shower.

16 Clarence Hill
A lovely quirky house, not suitable for anyone with mobility issues but we loved it. A nice touch with welcome gifts and flowers on arrival. Beautiful views from the lounge window over the river. The house is situated not far from the main shops and restaurants up quite a steep hill. Overall we loved this house, only negative is outside space.

Another visit to 16 Clarence Hill
This is our fourth visit to the property so that says everything. The road to it is narrow and the parking is tight but the property and location is worth it. You do have to like stairs but the views from the bay windows are great.
Some things like the oven are getting tired (look for the instructions) but would go back.

The accommodation was as good as advertised.
location as only short walk into town, views wonderful.
Standard of furnishings,equipment high standard.
Would need to be fairly agile as plenty of stairs.
Possibly only negative the bathrooms were n different level to the bedrooms.
The narrow road & parking needed to be negotiated carefully.
We would certainly recommend,& would gladly come again.

Stunning view and comfortable accomodation in Dartmouth.
We have stayed in this property several times now and it doesn't disappoint. It would not suit people with walking difficulties because of all the stairs. The view is fab and because its high you can see across the town, the estuary and way out to the castle and the sea. Very comfy bed, good shower, well equipped kitchen and of course a parking space. We love Dartmouth there is so much to do and if you want a quiet time just sitting watching the boats is relaxing from the window or a bench by the quay. We will be back very soon. Thank you.

Great base for exploring Dartmouth and surrounding area
16 Clarence Hill made the ideal location for a week long visit to Dartmouth. Situated just up from the town, but within a few minutes walk you are in near the market and centre. On arrival there was a welcome pack of milk, wine etc which was helpful and the house was very clean.
This quirky house was very well designed with an excellent, well equipped kitchen and dining area (ground). Also relaxing areas to lounge (1st floor) and sleep (2nd floor) with amazing views over the town.
In the front of house was a set of chairs and table and provided a lovely sun trap (sheltered from the breeze) in the morning up to about 1pm
The availability of parking was a bonus although we only used our car to venture out twice to undertake walks: Blackpool Sands and Slapton

16 Clarence Hill Dartmouth Devon
This property looks very small from the outside but opens up to an exceptionally large property once you walk through the front door. We stayed over Christmas 2020 period, and were welcomed by a wonderful Hamper and a bottle of Champaign. The property is on three levels, four if you count the upper bathroom. It was very clean and all the necessaries for a comfortable stay were supplied. The lower, ground floor is split into the Kitchen and Dinning area with a small seating area outside the kitchen. The first floor has a large lounge area with a bay type window that gives beautiful views over Dartmouth, Kingswear and the Dart estuary. There is also a large bathroom on this floor with bath and a wonderful shower. The Second Floor has a large double bedded room at the rear of the property, and another large double bedded room at the front also with stunning views the same as the lounge. This bedroom has a spiral staircase that leads up to another small bathroom including a seating area. The house is situated on a Steep very narrow Hill with a parking space opposite the front door. It is only a short walk into the centre of Dartmouth, with lots of interesting walks and places of interest nearby. We loved our stay at 16 Clarence Hill and would recommend it to anyone, The only downside to this property is that it is not Disable friendly, due to the various staircases.

Perfect accommodation !
Literally could not be better. So so clean - excellent quality bed and bed linen etc. Very warm house even in December - we always turned heating off when we went out for the day and was warm very quickly on our return .Amazing views and super to be able to park and just be to walk down into the town. Lovely restaurants and shops - probably one of our best holidays .

Lovely setting with fabulous views
Returned from a very relaxing break in this comfortable property. The views are absolutely stunning and the setting is very close to the town, which has a wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants.
The property was very clean and it was lovely to have milk, cake and fresh flowers on arrival. The house is like a tardis but if you aren’t good with a lot of steps might be difficult to get around, especially the spiral stairs to one of the bathrooms. The parking is a little tight so taking a large car would be tricky, as very narrow roads as well.
Dartmouth is a lovely town and there is plenty to do near by as well. We would like to return

This was the fifth time that we have rented this property which just about says it all. Beautiful house in a great location. Have already booked again for 2021.

An enjoyable week
Couldn't fault the house. A pleasant surprise to have the wine, cake, biscuits and flowers on our arrival.
We were a bit perplexed about the date on the frontage of 1629 which was obviously not the date the house was built. However we found out from a museum leaflet that the narrow house was built after WW2 and used the frontage of a house in Foss Street which had suffered bomb damage in 1943 and was being demolished. The facade was saved and used on number 16 and fitted in nicely in the gap between 2 larger and earlier houses. Clever eh!
The sitting out area is in the front of the house next to the road and as the weather was good all week we sat out there most days and chatted to passersby.

Quirky with amazing views!
The property is ideally situated with a short walk into Dartmouth town and riverside, including bars, restaurants and foot ferry over to Kingswear where you can board the excellent steam train to Paignton. The parking for 16 Clarence Hill is somewhat smaller than we expected and most suited to a small to medium size vehicle at best, it is advisable to approach the property from Mount Boone/Mount Boone Hill and not to drive up Clarence Hill.
The 4 floor accommodation (yes many steps) is very well equipped and to a very good standard, the views looking out over Dartmouth/Kingswear are stunning, and probably some of the best in Clarence Hill. The accommodation provides plenty of home comforts and has a very relaxing environment. It does have a very small enclosed area outside the kitchen, but really serves no purpose. However an aluminium table and chairs for 4 is provided at the front of the property. I would highly recommend this property taking into account the many steps accessing all levels, also the steep roads are not for the faint hearted. Apart from the tight parking my only other criticism of the property would be the exposed carpet grippers, particularly on the stairs as often these would catch on socks, or occasionally feet. All in all this is a fantastic holiday destination and 16 Clarence Hill provides the ideal base for visiting beautiful surrounding Devon areas.

Amazing views and great location
We had a wonderful stay at this fabulous house with its amazing views which got better and better the higher you climbed.
The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and we felt totally Covid safe.
Excellent location for exploring Dartmouth and all that it has to offer, with just a short 5 minute walk in to the centre.
Having the parking space right outside was a real bonus, especially as Dartmouth was extremely busy due to the extra 'stay-cation' visitors, I would recommend only using it for small/medium size cars.
