Perfect getaway. A great location with snorkeling straight off the beach or by boat trip to surrounding islands. Basic but lovely air-conditioned bungalows right on the beach. Friendly and attentive staff. Fresh hot bread at breakfast an added bonus. Will return again.

Alam Karang was our favourite place out of our one month in Bali and Lombok. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and it was cool at night. We loved the open air bathroom and the shower with an ocean view ( if you open the curtain on the bathroom door)! The food was fantastic! Ju and the rest of the staff were amazing! Snorkeling off the beach (follow the boat line out to the reef) was excellent, especially if you continue to swim left to the point where the reef is pristine! (At high tide)

Everything. Just perfect, quiet, beautiful. We came in rainy season and it was best place during our 4 weeks travel. It is said it is even better in dry season - we are coming back to check :) The food is sooo yummy, the staf super friendly. Thank you!

One of our favourite ever places to stay! Stunning setting, akin to your own desert island. Delightful French owner, whose husband is an architect and it shows with the design of the property. Rooms are very clean, extremely comfortable, with very good a/c and with all the other amenities that one needs. This is extremely good value for what you get. The restaurant provides great food, both local and European, at very reasonable prices.. Coral reefs are within yards of the white sand beach, with snorkelling equipment provided for free. The hotel has its own boat, so trips to other islands are available at very reasonable rates. We could happily have stayed here for weeks and cannot recommend it highly enough. We will definitely return.

Alam Karang is the best place we have stayed yet in our two month trip around Indonesia! The location of the room is stunning- right on the beach with a view of Mount Rinjani across the sea. You cannot get better on the island. The interior of the room and the bathroom are beautiful and luxurious too. The manager, Jun, ensured our stay was excellent. He made us feel at home. We hope to return in the near future.

Alam Karang is such a beautiful place! The design of the appartments/bungalows is amazing from the outside and inside - I loved the attention to detail and how the design is matched to the surrounding nature. Coming from Gilli-T before, the quiet and calm of the place and the privacy were a great plus! The staff at Alam Karang is incredibly helpful and friendly and the food at the restaurant delicious. Waking up to a breakfast with fresh baked bread and looking at the sea side are just some of the higlights. I would highly recommend staying here!

A beautiful place, directly located on a beautiful beach - it felt like paradise! You can see the sun rise from your room, everything was amazing and we stood way longer than we planned at first. During our 3 weeks indonesia vacation we stood at lots of different places, but this place was the best of all of them. Unfortunately, it is not common to receive fresh drinking water for free in hotels. But here not only you are provided with fresh drinking water whenever you need it, but also snorkeling material and you can even lend a kanu, which was super fun. Thank you again to the whole team for the great time we had!! We are looking forward to coming again. :)

Please keep in mind, that you are on a small and very natural island here! Of course there will be bugs etc., which is not something we experienced as negative but some people seem to forget about facts like these so let this be a little reminder. ;)

maybe the snorkeling trip a bit overpriced considering the boys that take you in the boat don’t speak practically any English and they don’t bother to explain anything … you have to. ask where to go where to swim ! maybe in the little town nearby you can find another trip..

Location is amazing, the team is really nice and helpful and the food is great as well. It was a great stay and I really enjoyed my time at Alam Karang 😊

There was nothing not to like!

THE place to stay in Gili Gede, everything was absolutely perfect. The people here are so welcoming and will do anything to make your stay perfect. The service you will get is just amazing. The room and the bathroom are big, the bed is so comfortable. The food at the restaurant is carefully prepared, we tried different plates, they were all so tasty and delicious. The breakfast has different options, all were delicious ! We also did a snorkeling trip, wonderful one, highly recommend. We had a wonderful stay and were so sad to leave this little paradise.

Amazing Hotel right on the beach, with a good snorkeling spot. The owners and the staff are the nicest people and arranged a wonderful snorkeling trip for us. The restaurant is also excellent. Best place in our whole trip to Bali and Lombok!

The location, bungalow and breakfasts were excellent. Marie is a great host and snorkeling guide, and her staff are warm, friendly and very helpful.

everything about our stay at Alam Karang was perfect. Marie couldn’t have done more to look after us. the Bungalow was incredible, right on the beach. the little touches and extra effort was very well received. The food was excellent too.

OMG - where to start?... this little piece of paradise is perfectly managed and maintained. Marie is a perfect hostess, with unmatched people skills and impeccable taste: so many wonderful conversations on multitude of topics, so many thoughtful touches in the bungalows (including divine smell of bed linen). As other reviewers mentioned, the food is so good that we didn't feel any need to try any other restaurant on the island. And not just that - Marie's relationship with the staff is so good that throughout dinner we were hearing bursts of laughter from the kitchen (how good is that?). The boys were unfailingly polite, smiling and very efficient - all due to Marie's training. The white-sanded beach was free from rubbish, unlike many places in Indonesia. Snorkeling from the beach was pretty good, with a lot of healthy coral right on our doorstep. An unexpected surprise was a coral nursery started and maintained by Marie. It was so good to see how much care goes into insuring that future visitors would enjoy the underwater world.

We hesitated for a long time about the hotel that would allow us to have a great romantic time on Gili Gede. We chose Alam Karang because the pictures of the place were very beautiful and the comments were very positive. Then, we spent the best two days of our trip in Indonesia there. The place is exceptional, with comfortable wooden bungalows. The staff take care of the customers, by them little touches (preparing the rooms for the night while you eat), and in the management of the services offered: snorkeling and cooking. The meals are divine! You will enjoy both breakfast, with many choice and dinner, with the fish from the catch of the day or with the incredible curry. So if you want to stay on Gili Gede and you hesitate between several hotels then book here. You will be received and pampered in an incredible place.

There are no details Marie has not thought of! The bungalows were extremely comfortable and carefully managed. The food was also excellent! We very much enjoyed our stay. A wonderful time.

If anything, we were too well taken care of! The staff was very hands on.

Super friendly owner, great staff, great food, great bungalow

The position on the beach is amazing. The island is so quiet. The rooms are lovely. Despite the remoteness of the island, getting there was easy on the boat and there was help with bags and such.

The owner is away and the staff she has left in place are a little disorganised and not really thinking about guests. I had a bit of a battle to stop them playing loud music or listening to loud YouTube videos where I was trying to relax and work. Bins were not emptied regularly or bathrooms cleaned. They spent their days mostly sat playing chess and smoking or sleeping. My bed was not comfortable - I got back ache. WiFi is erratic - it was rainy season and the electricity on the island cut off a few times. When it did, the WiFi went off.

Everything was perfect with a very nice hostess as Marie! The place is beautiful very cosy with a very sympathic staff! The cooking is so delicious and our child like so much the crepes of Marie! Very good organisation for snorkeling and we can do just in front of the hotel beach! We will come back!!
