Not only was the location, perfect for attending evens like Trad on the Prom down on the water, it was only a 15 minute walk into town where Quay street fun lured us to music dancing and laughing. . We loved staying at Niles Lodge! It’s a beautiful historic home that has positive energy. The gas station across the street had all kinds of food, ATM, newspapers and very friendly people.i would go back in a heartbeat! We also attended the Galway races and won on race 3!!! Took a taxi up to the Ashford castle and went on a falcon walk with halls! Very, very special and goosebumps getting a Guinness at Quiet Man Pub!

This magnificent home is set on a acre+ of beautifully manicured lawns and gardens. It has all the peacefulness and quietude of a country home, yet it is located in the heart of Galway. It is a short walk to endless restaurants, shops, attractions and Galway Bay. Never have we stayed in a more perfectly situated home.
The house itself is lovely with spacious rooms, wonderful king-size beds, working fireplaces, a well-equipped kitchen and all the comforts of home. There were fresh flowers in nearly every room and the housekeepers kept us well-stocked with fresh towels and linens.
Our host, Maire, was simply beyond compare. In all of our many, many years of renting houses in the US and abroad, we have never had a host who was more attentive, more helpful or more thoughtful. And what lovely person she is.
If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experience for youself, your family or a group of friends in Galway, this is your place.

Wonderfully charming property. Clean very comfortable beds, beautiful antique furniture, beyond fully appointed kitchen. The house was fun to come home to after a busy day. The children loved the secret gardens. Great location. Marie, the owner, was a fantastic host.

We brought our teenage children back to Galway for Christmas. The journey from Australia is always long but getting easier as they grow older. The house is magnificent and the hospitality even better. Maire is generous in more ways than one. Her furnishings are the best. Fabulous antiques, well placed and functional. Beautiful sofas, king size beds, crystal champagne glasses and fabulous lamps to illuminate it all. Her bed linen is of the highest quality and plentiful. The location of the house is perfect for a 10 minute stroll into town or 5 minutes to Salthill and the Prom. We will definitely book this house when next in Galway and recommend you do the same. You will not be disappointed.

Our recent stay at the Nile Lodge was absolutely wonderful. The property is even more beautiful than the photos. Galway and Salthill sites and restaurants all within waking distance, and ample parking is available on the property. To top it off, Maire was a delightful host. We would highly recommend.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Nile Lodge. The house and grounds are beautiful, it was immaculately clean, the history of the house is fascinating, and Mairie was a wonderful host. She made us feel like we were family, while still giving us our space. She met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the house and garden and the history of the house, and we got to chat again when we left. The location was great for walking into the center/old part of Galway as well as for getting out of the city quickly and exploring Connemara countryside. We spent 6 nights there and wished it could age been longer.

We had such a great stay at this property. The house was clean, very well equipped, and the host was a great communicator and incredibly thoughtful. It was a 10 minute walk into town or to the boardwalk. The outdoor space was great for us as we lucked out with very warm weather. Would definitely recommend this property for your stay in Galway.

You will not be disappointed in any way. The house is as beautiful as the woman who owns it. The house is perfectly located for walking. The pubs and restaurants are within a 10 minute walk. You feel like your staying at a country manor. Wonderful!!!

Beautiful Home Perfect Location
Beautiful home and gardens. Great classic furnishings and accessories with all the modern amenities. Nothing was overlooked by the owner who went above and beyond preparing for our stay with specialty groceries and beverages upon our arrival. Spring flowers throughout were extra special. Location location location - short walks into Galway or Salthill for restaurants, pubs, shopping.

Unforgettable Experience
I am not even sure where to begin with this review. I booked Nile Lodge as part of a trip to celebrate my son and his friend who just graduated from college but missed almost two years of their experience due to Covid. We decided to take a trip to Ireland where all of our families are from to celebrate. From the moment we arrived, Maire and her staff made this the most memorable VRBO experience we have ever had. By the time we left, we felt like family and wished we had stayed longer in her amazing home as we felt like we had only just begun to experience all the area had to offer after three nights. Maire gave us so many great tips about things to do in the area and treated us like family from the moment we checked in. We will most certainly be back in the future and only hope Maire has availability the next time we are in Galway!

Couldn't have been any better
if there were 6 stars, I'd have given it. The house is perfect in both comfort and location. We were treated like family and honestly was one of the best vacation home experiences I've had in my 27 years of travelling....

Nile Lodge
A lovely and "homely" (in the best sense of the word) property.
Hadn't seen my brothers in 3 years and used Nile Lodge as a place to get together. Very well equipped, good location and a great place to relax. Maire our host was a delight. Gracious friendly and always willing to help. I highly recommend both her and Nile Lodge..

A truly Exceptional Home
This is a truly exceptional home and Maire is a tremendous host. We spent a few days here between Christmas and New Year and were made feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The attention to detail in the house is second to none and there were so many thoughtful touches, such as the provision of basic food supplies which was so appreciated as we arrived on a Bank Holiday (not to mention the chocolates and whiskey!). The house itself is truly magnificent and lovingly furnished with period pieces. There are many interesting books to read which kept my elderly mother endlessly entertained. There is a sitting room, drawing room and dining room so lots of space for a group to disperse into. Each bedroom is ensuite and is supplied with bathrobes. I loved the location which is an easy walk both to the downtown and to the seafront in Salthill. Maire was the perfect blend of being available but not intrusive. My only regret is that we could not stay longer.

Lovely home with a lovely hostess
It is very difficult to accurately describe just what a lovely stay we had at Nile Lodge. As we drove through the pillars and approached this stately home, we were immediately impressed by the beautiful garden landscape, spacious curved driveway, and elegant facade of this fine historical home. As we exited our car, we were greeted by our smiling welcoming hostess Maire who escorted us into the hallway lined with reminders of Nile Lodge's history, then into the lovely living and dining rooms symmetrically placed on either side. Maire pointed out the many amenities (wonderful linens, stemware, serving pieces, cellphone for directions and local calling etc.), while touring us throughout the home and secret gardens, as Mary Anne put the finishing touches (including an array of freshly cut flowers) to prepare for our (slightly early) arrival. The kitchen was well stocked with fresh bread, cheeses, Guinness and more. The house is charming and so well appointed it has everything you can possibly need to cook and serve an enticing meal, to popping a cork and sipping wine. Each of the king size beds were comfortable and beautifully dressed with gorgeous linens. The ensuite bathrooms gave each couple plenty of privacy. The gardens not only afforded privacy and beauty, the herb garden allowed us to prepare savory meals with fresh herbs. The house is a perfect distance from the heart of town, walking to Galway Bay, and exploring Salt Hill. Restaurants, pubs, and music venues are within a very comfortable walking distance, and the grocery is just a short walk down the street. There is nothing we wished for that was not provided. An added treat is Maire. Not only is she a gracious hostess but a treasure to enjoy. Our fellow travelers were celebrating a 41st wedding anniversary, and Maire surprised us all by surreptitiously preparing and setting out a silver tray adorned with flowers and treats. To our delight, Maire accepted our invitation to join us in the light flooded living room while we savored her dear anniversary surprise. Maire is warm, engaging, and willing to share stories of Galway, Ireland, the history of Nile Lodge, and more. We felt as though we found a long lost friend. Maire, thank you for welcoming us into your home with such open arms and generous heart.

Incredible find in Galway!
Nile Lodge is a wonderful combination of old world charm and modern conveniences! Maire's hospitality and knowledge of the house, its history and the surrounding area is unmatched. She spent considerable time with us upon check-in with her tour of the house and, since we are very interested, explained its history from the original owner to the present. Maire left us with freshly ground coffee, breakfast and some snacks - a great beginning to our trip. The house also was a quick and easy walk to all of the venues in Galway, including restaurants, pubs and grocery stores. We certainly look forward to visiting Galway again and booking a stay at the Nile Lodge will be the first thing we do.

The Gem of Galway!!
This was one of, if not The best experiences of Ireland. The pictures do not do this property justice and Maire is the best hostess I have ever experienced. If staying in Galway or near this property is a must! Maire is super personable and helps with any questions you have right away! She made the experience for my entire family memorable and went above and beyond. We will be coming back! The Daly Family!

Historic, Spacious, Well-Loved, Homely
We were so thrilled with our stay at Nile Lodge. Maire is a wonderful host, generous with her time and knowledge. My partner's family comes from Galway and we visit often. This is the first time we have stayed, other than with family, as we brought his children and grand-children for a visit. This was such a perfect property for 3 generations. His relatives were absolutely knocked out with having the opportunity to visit and Maire was kindness itself when I asked if 20+ relative could come over for a get-together. The gardens are very special too. We stay in beautiful hotels on holidays at home and abroad but the quirkiness, charm and very well stocked Nile Lodge is extra special. We trust future visitors will treat this wonderful house with the respect it so richly deserves. Thank you, Maire

A step-back in time to an age of civility
Open the front door and one is immediately transported back to a more graceful time when life was lived at a far more gentile pace and those with money could enjoy a charmed existence with servants to cater to the family's every need.
Indeed, for a fleeting second, I quite expected a butler to step forward and help me off with my top coat while ushering me into the drawing room with its roaring fire and comfy couch while he arranged for my bags to be brought in from the horse-drawn carriage outside.
Reality returned as I dragged our two overly heavy suitcases from the boot of the car up the steps and over the threshold into the long entrance hall of Nile Lodge off which are located the drawing room, formal dining room and two of the three bedrooms,
The interior still retains much of the splendour of its earlier years with a blend of faux Regency, Victorian and early 20th Century furniture throughout the house.
This is not to suggest that such old worldliness extends to the bathrooms which I hasten to re-assure readers feature modern day fixtures and fittings. The 'loo' in the third bedroom at the back of the house is somewhat small and only one bedroom has a bathtub ; however these were small inconveniences that didn't overly concern us especially when the beds were so comfortable.
The kitchen has an AGA cooker which all of us remembered from our youth but none of us were confident enough to put to use except to warm plates and to keep coffee and tea pots warm ; instead we used the perfectly adequate stove and ubiquitous micro wave. Naturally as with everything else in Nile House the kitchen was extremely well equipped with more than enough glasses, knives and forks and cooking utensils to satisfy our every need
Maire, the owner, was genuinely interested in making sure that our stay was as good as she could make it being present in the house when we arrived and a couple of times during the week to make sure everything was going fine which of course it was. Being from the area she had an encyclopaedic knowledge of what Galway had to offer and on our first night even managed to get us a table at a Michelin rated restaurant and a couple of days later giving us the names of some trainers whose horses she though would do well at Galway Races.
Perhaps the most unexpected benefit was Nile Lodge's location which is within ten minutes walk of the best restaurants in Galway as well as a number of the most popular diddly-diddly bar

Great accommodations for 3 couples
Very clean and welcoming. Worked wonderfully for 3 couples. Lots of space and starter food and snacks in the refrigerator when we got there. Great location. Maire was very friendly and had fresh homemade granola along with other items such as milk, etc ready for us.

The perfect Galway holiday home!
We have recently spent a wonderful week at Nile Lodge with our grown-up children and their partners. Maire is a lovely welcoming host for whom nothing was too much trouble. It was great to arrive to find the fridge filled, plenty of fruit, tea, coffee etc as well as fires laid and toiletries in all the bathrooms.
Nile Lodge is a fantastic historic house which has been beautifully restored to create a really comfortable and spacious family home with four large bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom. It is conveniently situated only 10 minutes walk from the city centre and we enjoyed being able to walk out for dinner in some of Galway's lovely restaurants or to wander in to listen to traditional music in local bars. We also found it easy to drive to Connemara and The Burren to enjoy the scenery and some of the fantastic walks recommended by Maire .
It was always a pleasure to return to the house at the end of the day, we lit fires on a wet evening, cooked on the Aga, played on the piano and sat around chatting and listening to music. Maire was happy for us to invite our cousins and friends one day and it was brilliant to share a meal around the huge dining table and have space to sit and relax afterwards.
Maire went out of her way to ensure we had everything we might need and we had a wonderful week in her beautiful home. It really is a special place and we hope to return for another visit.

NILE LODGE is fabulous!
Maire gives so much thought to every detail to delight her guests. She welcomed us personally when we arrived, shared stories about the history of her home and it's beautiful antiques. She had generously put in fresh milk, eggs, yogurt, baguette and homemade granola
and fresh flowers. We loved having dinners in the informal glassed in garden room looking out on the charming landscaped back patio. For our last night she arranged for the best table at a favorite restaurant. And there were other wonderful surprises for us from Maire.
Nile Lodge is a gem, and Maire is the most thoughtful hostess imaginable!

Beautifully Kept Historical Home
We had a memorable stay at Nile Lodge. The home was beautifully kept with all historical touches. The grounds were perfect for 2 busy children and the home was in excellent walking distance from any sites we wanted to take in in Galway city. Maire was wonderful to work with and extremely accommodating to all our needs and went above and beyond to ensure our children were comfortable. I highly recommend this home for a traditional, elegant Irish stay.

Great property for our family visit to Ireland!
Our family group of six adults enjoyed our 4 night stay at Nile Lodge. Our host, Marie, was wonderful and took care of us. She had fresh scones and her homemade granola for our first morning. Wonderful. The house is well restored with beautiful furnishings and bed linens. The bathrooms and kitchen have modern fixtures. Stove is old fashioned but worked well for what we needed. The garden and landscaping were lovely. We enjoyed the area and found we could walk to most sites in Galway. Good location for day trips to the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher. We will stay here again if we come back to Galway.

A fantastic and unique house, with an awesome host
We loved staying at Nile Lodge! We were a family - two couples and one child (2 yr old) - so it was more space than we needed, but we're so glad we got the opportunity to experience the place, and "experience" really is the right word. It's a historic property, originally built in the early 1800s, and the walls of the main hallway are lined with the wills of the family through the generations, passing the house down. There's beautiful antique furniture, glassware, and Irish dishware all over the house, but despite the history it still feels homey and welcoming. Bathrooms are updated, beds are comfortable, kitchen is spacious, there's a washer and dryer, lots of yard space, and beautiful fireplaces in every room. Maire, our host, was great - she had coffee, tea, and pastries waiting for us, milk, butter, and clotted cream in the fridge, and had one of the bedrooms and bathrooms all set up for our little one. She spent an hour, at least, telling us all about the history of the house and explaining how everything worked. We hope we can find an excuse to come back to Galway so we can stay here again! If you want new and modern, maybe this isn't the property for you, but if you're in the mood to try a rental you'll remember, I highly recommend Nile Lodge.

A Grand Galway Home
We just returned from a family visit to Galway, where we stayed at Nile Lodge. What a wonderful experience! Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by Maire, who helped us get settled, provided maps and information about local sites, and even took the time to make dinner reservations for us at wonderful local restaurants. Maire has lovingly restored her beautiful home to provide luxurious and comfortable accommodations in the perfect setting. There are garden views from each bedroom window and the home is a brief walk to the center of Galway as well as close to the Salthill Promenade along Galway Bay.
The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were very comfortable with luxurious linens. The bathrooms were updated and fully equipped. Maire thoughtfully provided breakfast provisions and the kitchen has everything you need if interested in making meals.
After our activities each day, it was a special treat to return to Nile Lodge, gather round a roaring fire and unwind. There are also games, cards etc..provided for family fun.
Our only regret is we did not have more time to enjoy this beautiful home and all that Galway has to offer.
Thank you again, Maire, for your hospitality. We hope to return in the future and will recommend Nile Lodge to our family and friends.

Home away from home
Nile Lodge is not just renting a place to stay, it is a sharing of Maire's property, pride and hospitality. From personally greeting us to the groceries awaiting us to booking a dinner reservation for us in spite of our late arrival, Maire exceeded all of our expectations and even hopes. The home is lovely (like staying in a museum), and Maire's tips for things to do helped us enjoy ourselves even more.
Our group of six adults enjoyed the Lodge beyond our dreams. Thank you, Maire, for making us feel a part of your family for our stay.
