Unfortunately, we were made to feel very unwelcome from the outset. Despite informing our host that we were travelling with our baby, she informed as upon arrival that "the other guests [an older couple] don't like babies, so if your daughter screams or cries, could you please take her outside?" She also cleared food from our baby's highchair before she had finished eating, "otherwise it gets on the floor" (which was anyway covered in dust and dog hair).
I fully understand people not liking children and not being comfortable with them in their home, but if that is the case, they should not be running a B&B, or at least one that claims to be "family friendly". To accept our booking - and our money - and then treat our presence as an imposition (at best) is to my mind inexcusable. If we had had somewhere else to go, we would have left immediately. As it was, we spent a stressful night creeping about the place, trying to pacify our daughter, before making a speedy getaway in the morning.
As the positive reviews attest, Bridge Cottage may be a pleasant place to stay as a solo traveller or a couple. The property itself is characterful, and the location pleasant. Note: It is much more of a homestay than a B&B - there are no locks on the rooms, the bathrooms are separate, and there is a lot of "clutter". Very little effort has been made to convert the place from a home into a B&B; there was a TV in our room, propped up on loose books, and an ancient, thimble-sized kettle, but barring that, this was just someone's spare room, complete with all their possessions. Again, some people may like this (I have enjoyed staying in such properties in Japan and Pakistan), but it should honestly be advertised as a homestay, and one should expect to act accordingly (i.e. as a guest in someone's home, not as a paying customer with certain rights and entitlements).

Location for the purpose of my stay. Room/Bathroom and Breakfast spot on.
In need of some TLC especially the grounds.

Bridge Cottage is a gem … we had a wonderful 2 night stay at Miranda’s lovely home…the bedroom & bathroom is a great size with all home comforts & it is so quiet & peaceful … plenty of tea and coffee and fresh milk which is always a bonus… there were bottles of water & biscuits in the room and were replenished daily… breakfast was fabulous & set us up for the day … it was freshly cooked to order with plenty of coffee / tea / toast & condiments …there are 2 pubs within walking distance and we had a lovely meal in The Greyhound ( booking is advisable ) … we will most certainly be returning to Bridge Cottage when we are staying in the area … Miranda made us feel very welcome & we left feeling very rested & relaxed

Peaceful. Surrounded by park but nearby beautiful villages and countryside. Host was so helpful and friendly. Loved our stay

Miranda laver en rigtig god morgenmad og er meget gavmild med at fylde op og servicere. Huset ligger i skøn natur, i stille omgivelser.

Sehr individuelle Unterkunft, liebevoll eingerichtet.

Breakfast was superb & with options, the old dog was lovely and sleepy, the location is excellent, but you require the owners directions to find the road turning
everything was fine

Loved the location and all the nature surrounding us including young deer in the garden. Miranda was delightful and very welcoming. Her dog was a darling and sat with us peacefully in the garden. The house beautiful, comfortable and full of objects suggesting a full and fascinating life. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and we enjoyed some great breakfast conversations with fellow guests. We will definitely return.

It was so homely, the host was very welcoming and the dog was gorgeous. We loved the quiet location and the rural surroundings. The house was warm, the bedroom spacious, even with the roll-out bed. Our breakfast was excellent and we especially loved the grilled field mushrooms. We would have liked to have stayed a 2nd night.
Nothing really

The cottage is charming and beautiful, the room was comfortable, and everything was just as it should be.

It may have been a little difficult to find, the access lane is well camouflaged, but the cottage and surrounding countryside is idyllic!
Miranda was an excellent host. The extra large bed was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious!T
The access lane was a bit difficult to see and turn into off a busy road on our first visit. Not the best for larger vehicles!

Paysage exceptionnel. Hôte discrète mais disponible si nécessaire. Déco Intérieure « so British » et très originale. Breakfast au top

The property is 18th Century and very quirky. Situated next to a babbling brook, and away from the noise of traffic, it’s idyllic for a quiet retreat. Midhurst is only 1 mile away, and there are 2 great pubs less than 500m. The host, Miranda, is adorable and very welcoming. The breakfast was also delicious and plentiful. We will definitely be back for a stay.
There is a very sharp turning off the main road, easy to miss, and the lane down to the cottage is quite narrow, so not suitable for caravans or mobile homes.

Fabulous property totally unique and special. Perfect one night stay whilst doing the south downs way. Lovely pub short walk away. Miranda is a fabulous host and breakfast was delicious could not recommend more highly

Cosy cottage and friendly host. Very hospitable. Dog friendly (even offered real dog food!). Lovely garden and breakfast. Very quiet. Great location to stop for the night when walking the South Downs Way. There’s a bus stop 500m from the property that takes you right to the trail. Also a pub around the corner with nice food.

The location was perfect for our needs and in a really beautiful spot. Miranda our host was very welcoming and the breakfast was superb.
4.4
Lovely peaceful location with unique, quirky decor, tasty cooked breakfast, a superb shower, and welcoming, attentive host.
There was quite a lot of dust and we felt the room was overdue a deep clean. Also, the property is approached by an unmade road/drive which was not made clear - this was not a problem for us, but could be for other vehicles (eg, low sports cars).

It was a lovely cottage in a quiet location near a river, an atmosphere of another peaceful world.
Miranda the host made everything possible to allow a comfortable stay. The room was cosy, the breakfast enjoyable and we loved her dog, Nimrod.

Pretty rural setting. Spacious bedroom and en suite. Proximity to very good local pubs for meals. Substantial breakfast. Helpful host.
Could do with updating bedlinen and more pillows and prefer white towels. Bed a little bumpy. Access a bit tricky down narrow lane.
4.4
Lovely cosy cottage, with 2 nice country pubs walking distance. Breakfast was amazing each day and we had everything we needed. Very pleasant stay.

Delicious breakfast, great value, lovely comfortable room, great public transport links for somewhere so rural
