The dinners were superb. They were a gourmet delight
The room was very small and cramped. The interior of the hotel looked a bit tired.

I loved the location on a small town in the middle of the mountains. The outdoor bath while it was snowing was magical.
The bedding was super warm but the room at night got a bit cold, no equilibrium. The place would benefit from a small renovation since it was showing some signs of ageing like damaged wallpaper.

Breakfast buffet was not good. Mostly food item was pork based no item for chicken, Indians eat chicken but not pork.
Low standard food item.

Extremely comfortable. Old facility, but in an appealing way. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I'm somewhat conversational in Japanese, which helped, but someone could get by here without it as they had English explanations for much of the important bits -- don't let a language barrier scare you away. If you're looking for a quiet little place in the mountains, check it out.
They sent a driver to pick me up from the station without my request, which was very much appreciated as a snowstorm had blown in and I would have had difficulty reaching the facility had they not done so. That said, please be aware that Yamagata and much of Tohoku get VERY snowy in the winter; you should dress appropriately and wear footwear that can cope with snow and ice if visiting in the winter.
The meals were great and the staff member who served dinner in my room was very friendly and professional. I have a food allergy, and they went out of their way to accommodate me -- going as far as to list all of the items on the breakfast buffet the following morning and highlighting which items contain the allergens I specified. (If you have an allergy, make sure to specify this prior to your arrival so they can make preparations if necessary!)
The view of the mountain was beautiful. I spent a portion of the evening and sunrise the following morning in the tub with the window open so that I could see it.
I want to visit again already.

Everything was great.
Room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. We requested for seafood as we don't eat meat and they prepared the dinner accordingly. Menu for 2 dinners were different. First night the main was crab, next night was fish. Enjoyed both. The lady who served our dinner did her best to explain in both Japanese and English - thank you!
Dyson hairdryer and bathrobes (in addition to yukatas) provided.
Nothing. Pricey, but worth it. Having an onsen in the room and excellent dinners made it a memorable stay.

The facility was spacious, generally clean, and the onsen was very pleasant. The breakfasts were good. The staff were flexible in providing transportation initially when meeting us at the train station.
The carpeting in our room appeared to have been stained and this contributed to feeling that there was inadequate cleanliness. We would have preferred a tatami-style room and had thought, while we had opted for a Japanese-style room, that we were placed mistakingly in a western-style room. While we were welcomed by staff initially, we felt that staff did not initiate any offers of helpfulness later.

The room was very spacious and well equipped. The staff is really friendly and helpful, the food is excellent. The spa offers pools inside and outside and is laid out generously. Tip: Stay two nights, so you can enjoy the spa during midday and afternoon when there are fewer visitors.
Breakfast on Sunday morning was quite crowded, we had to wait in a queue for our seats to be allocated.

Almost every aspect of this Onsen Ryokan exceeded my expectation. The room is very spacious and I was glad that I updated it to the one with Massage Chair! It is godsend! Me and my friend spent ages taking turns to sit on the massage chair. It's so relaxing after a full day of touring. Dinner and breakfast was magnificent! So many varieties of local produce served on our table and the staff members are very attentive and polite. 100% recommend to spend at least one night here if you travel pass Ogami.

My favorite hotel during my stay in Japan. Staff was so helpful even though I did not speak any Japanese. Their hospitality was unmatched, could not thank them enough.

The food was just amazing.
Dinner was really good and I could try a lot of different local dishes. The waitress was really nice and she tried her best to explain everything.
Breakfast was good too with a lot of options.
The buiding is a little bit old.
My room didn't have a bathrom (only a toilet).
Because I have tattoos, they didn't let me use the Onsen facility... I asked the staff what can I do because my room doesn't have a shower (or a bath). At first they told me I could go to the Onsen after 11pm(when there is nobody). Then, after dinner, the staff told me I could go now (it was 8:30pm) however I could only shower. They asked me not to use the Onsen... It was a bit confusing. When I checked out, they still charged me the hot spring tax...

It is far from the beaten path and you have the feeling of experiencing an authentic stay. I had arranged a pick up from the station and as I arrived a member of staff was already there waiting for me. Even if English is not really spoken by staff they do their best to be helpful.
It can be a little more complicated to reach via public transportation if you are not coming by car, but in my case it was actually what I was looking for (something away from the big crowds)

The hotel staff was amazing. Very patient with our translator device that kept acting up. First time staying at a ryokan and its the best. Me and the wife enjoyed it very much. We would eat breakfast and leave town on the 08:11 train and return right before dinner. After dinner we would enjoy a nice soak in the outdoor onsen. A very quiet and relaxing place. Will definitely be returning in a few years.
The location is kinda of in the middle of no where. Not the best cell reception. Trains run about once every 2 hours so you have to keep that in mind when making plans for the day.

The view of our room is good, it face the mountain with river
Dinner is in big room and food is not delicious or attractive. Breakfast is even worst which is in buffet style. We do not expect this level of dinner or breakfast for the price they charge. Also, the onsen is very small, only one indoor pool and one small out-door pool, no sauna or cold pool. I shall not come here again.
