A propos de ce maisonrental
Entire house on a remote sheep farm , tended for 45 years

It was a beautiful farm off grid. Overall Daniel was great communicating the expectations and check in.
The house was rustic and charming; but could use a deep cleaning.and ventilation. We went end of June and the house was very hot by the end of the day. So it was dusty and stuffy. The tiny desk fans were not enough to cool us down. But then again this a farm and creature comforts are not the highlight.
All that said the picturesque window , swallows, lightning bugs and sheep were beautiful to wake up to. Aidan the house cat was very friendly.
Beartown boardwalk and cranberry glades are 25 and 45 minutes away and beautiful walks on the boardwalk and the falls hills creek hike.

The house and property are amazing the craftsmanship of the house was outstanding. It was definitely lived in with many personal touches but we felt at home. Dan was very helpful in locating all the places we wanted to visit. The directions on how to find the house were spot on. The entire stay was an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend staying here and I hope to come back for another visit

What a beautiful property and home and interesting and kind owner. Read the conditions closely. This home is very off the grid. No TV and little internet. He is up front about that. It made for great conversations! If you are looking for a unique stay this is a great place!

Such a lovely place with lot of memory (host’s life) in every bit of the house. It will take you hours just to see everything in the house and trust me it will be like a rustic museum in a good way. We had a another tiny host ( Aiden the cat ) who also welcomed and stayed with us without any trouble. Dan helped us with everything and you ll realise how good he is once you meet him. We loved the sheep and when we went it was a winter wonderland and we were sledding in the slopes and having fun like kids. Just make sure you have a 4WD since the very last lane of the road is very steep and rugged. And you might want to download offline map since there will not be any service. And last but not the least please respect this place because this man has built a legacy of his life and we appreciate he is letting people to enjoy it a bit with these stays.
Note: The water from kitchecn tap is amazing 😍 … we were hestitate at first and loved drinking it . I even filled a gallon of it in my bottle for travel back.

My family and I have stayed in many vacation homes with some missing the mark while others exceed it. This is a different experience—Dan opens his home, full of character and personality, to allow you a peek into a different way of life, complete with your own support from someone so accommodating and knowledgeable.
Come for the escape from the façade of busyness, and take the time here to recognize the different world turning in these hills. Perhaps even leave with a friend in Dan and Sparky.
The home had everything we needed. No televisions and limited cell phone access was a nice reprieve and encouraged us to explore the home’s impressive collection of books and take in much of the moments. Beds were comfortable and I feel a silly pride of self-sufficiency in tending to the wood fireplace to the extent that we did. Dan even made us feel “helpful” in our sheep involvement, though I’m fairly certain our participation was purely limited to fascination.
Looking forward to future trips!

Very special stay at this farmhouse.

Our families with toddlers enjoyed a stay at this farm in West Virginia. House has its personality, with a great view on the surrounding hills. The owner is a very hospitable person. Kids were happy to feed the sheep, jump in a hay, walk in the hills. Nearby it is interesting to visit Beartown state park, Lost Worlds caves.

Dan is an excellent host and we enjoyed our time on the farm. Definitely recommend the walk to the hilltop to see the beautiful pastures. We loved this trip and hope to come again!

Six of us stayed on Dan's Farm during an ADV (Adventure) Motorcycle trip. We rode a few sections of the local Mid-Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route which passed by about 30 min from the farm. The grounds and capacity helped us decide on the location and it did not disappoint. Dan was a great host. We found everything we needed in the house. If we find ourselves traveling to the area again I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Definitely a centralized point to some awesome riding (suited for ADV riders). House has enough room to fit decent size groups. Dan is an extremely knowledgeable man and it shows with the mountain of books around the place. The house is a perfect hang out, wind down after some extreme riding nearby.

We stayed with our two little kids on this beautiful enchanting farm for a week and really enjoyed our time. It was exactly what we were looking for, a spot to disconnect for a bit, slow down, and to be in nature. We loved spending time getting to know Dan and the sheep as well! Would love to return again in the future!

This was my second time staying at Dan’s farm. Each time, I visited with a different group of 4-5 friends. If you are looking for a beautiful, remote, quiet trip, this sheep farm is an incredible option. Located in the mountains of West Virginia, the farm feels far from the outside world, but provides a great background for long walks, sleeping in, cooking, warm baths, board games, and reading. The land around the home is vast and free to explore — my friends interested in birdwatching especially enjoyed walks in the area. Otherwise, my favorite parts are the beautiful kitchen and dining area as well as the porch that look over the hills of the area. Dan is a more than hospitable host whose home provides so much comfort. This was my second visit here, but certainly not my last.

My boyfriend and I came to stay at Dans little corner of the world for a weekend getaway to disconnect from our busy and demanding lives. We were able to do just that! We were completely secluded with beautiful scenery, natures sounds, and Dans absolutely beautiful custom built home. We are so grateful he has decided to open his home and share a piece of it with others so that they too can enjoy the beauty and peace. Dan was available on the property the whole time and very kind, even offering us to pick kale and lettuce from his personal garden to enjoy! While he was there on the property, his presence wasn’t an issue and his hospitality is unmatched! If you’re looking to truly disconnect I highly recommend Dans place, while there is internet available, we chose to not utilize it and really just enjoy. There were MANY deer and beautiful birds all day everyday on the property which we enjoyed. The only thing I would change is having a lock on the door in the dining room (not that it’s necessarily needed due to seclusion), those not accustomed to staying out in a secluded area may feel more at ease being able to lock up during sleeping hours. Other than just the “peace of mind” with locks, it was a dream and very accommodating. Thanks again for opening your home to us and your superior hospitality, we needed the trip more than we knew!

This is a working sheep farm in a spectacular long north/south running valley framed by mountain ridges to the east and west. The house, with magnificent woodwork and attention to detail, was built by the owner over 40 years ago. The owner moves to a little cottage while you occupy his home. He is an eminently graceful host and knowledgeable about the many activities in the greater area. I was content to sitting on the porch absorbing the sights, sounds, and fresh air of true countryside.

If you're into caving and are looking for a place to stay while in WV this is it. Its a beautiful farm that is peaceful and quiet. And it sits directly over the Friars Hole cave system. Just make sure you bring your food with you because its a long haul to the nearest supermarket!

This is a beautiful property! You can see many stars at night in the sky! The sheep are friendly! I thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside at the side of the house overlooking a pasture and up the mountain. A great place to get away! Daniel has very old items that he could open a museum with. The house was very homey and beautiful. I will say that you may think that you’re lost when you’re driving to the back of the hollow but never fear, you will find it! Thank you Daniel for your hospitality and welcoming us into your home!

Thank you, Dan, for an "almost heaven" West Virginia experience! We have stayed at many VRBOs, airBnBs, and farm stays and Dan's property ranks among the top. The sheep, the stars, the landscape, the incredible Dan-built home, Aiden the Cat, the peaceful quiet... it was tough to leave. A truly memorable, home-like stay, like visiting a family member.
Some tips for future guests:
~ follow Dan's advice and follow his directions, not GPS. best to print or take a pic of the directions, because you will lose reception once you're off the main roads. "turn left at 'pigs 4 sale'":)
~ the lovely country roads to his property can be daunting the first time through - we rec trying to arrive during daylight hours. Turkey Trail might not seem drivable the first time you see it, but it is! We managed with a minivan just fine.
~ wifi was strong enough in the house for basic web searching, but not for streaming. download any movies/shows you might want before arriving.
~ Greenbank Observatory was a beautiful drive and VERY cool. We also had a ball rafting New River with West Virginia Adventures. Lost Caverns was a hit with the kids, lots of "whoas!"
If you're on the fence - book it! You'll be so happy you did!

Such a great experience. Everything we were looking for. Remote, quiet and still all the amenities we needed for 6 people ages 7 - 80! Everyone was impressed with Dan’s attentiveness and hospitality.
Sitting on the porch in warm weather, and inside with equally great views of the sheep and surrounding hills. Walking on the property and feeding the sheep!!
We will be back!!

The family and I enjoyed ourselves tremendously! The stay was awesome! Mr. Danny has a beautiful property with so much history stored. The experience was priceless!!! We will definitely be BACK! The children LOVED it.

great place to getaway with a large group. 8 of us spent the weekend at dan's place and it was fantastic. the house itself is cozy and has a great porch for meals and relaxing. the property has beautiful sheep and lots of areas to explore and walk around. dan is such a gracious host--you won't regret booking this place!

Our family of 4 adults and a toddler had an amazing long weekend at Dan’s home in WV. The views from the huge porch and solarium were beautiful on the Fall weekend. The house is truly an incredible “home” that Dan shares with his guests; it’s beautiful inside and out. Even when the temperatures were below freezing at night the house was very comfortable. We felt no need to leave the property and cooked in the fully appointed kitchen (and yes the oven worked fine). If you are looking for a cookie cutter property this is not the place but if you want an incredibly amazing destination Dan’s place is the perfect spot!
Dan was a great host, he walked us through the uniqueness of the house, the property and the scenic options in the area. We had several wonderful conversations and look forward to continuing these on what I’m sure will be future visits. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

We booked this property as a meeting place to honor my youngest brother on what would have been his 18th birthday. We were installing a bike repair station in the Cranberry Glades as a memorial eagle scout project in his honor. The house was beautiful and uniquely crafted, the farm was lovely and remote, and it was exactly what we needed for the weekend together. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home!

If you want to unplug and relax this is the place. Nestled in a beautiful valley in the Allegheny mountains the home offers bucolic views from it's solarium. If you need to plug in, Wi-Fi is available but we didn't need it. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area or just hike around the property. My wife and I are already planning our next trip.

It was a rare pleasure for our family to stay on Dan's farm. The house is a gem, informed in so many details by Dan's eye for the beautiful, and his warmth. Dan was a generous, kind host, opening his home to us fully as if to family members, and we delighted in getting to know him. The location is superb. Our daughter enjoyed meeting the sheep and feeding the ducks, my father-in-law enjoyed walks on the property. It rained much of the time we were there, but we were content to enjoy it from such a cozy, lovely vantage point. The internet worked well throughout our stay, allowing me to get needed work done. We brought food with us and cooked everything at home; to have done otherwise might have been cumbersome in the remote location, but we enjoyed the slow pace and home-cooked meals. We lacked for nothing. We certainly hope to be back. Thank you for the kale from the garden; it was delicious.

This is not your typical VRBO! This is an adventure in the woods. Quaint and rustic and charming with a wonderful host. If you need fancy linens and fancy kitchenware this is not for you. But if you like the magic of shade trees and the feel of comfortable and worn and breezes on the hill and the sound of sheep in the valley then this is a magical place is for you!

Dan’s Farm
We went to Dan’s farm with the idea of a writers retreat. We managed to get a lot of writing and painting done, but also took in the wonderful views. Mist over the mountains, deer and sheep grazing, various types of sparrows in the trees. A real treat. Conversations with Dan were a highlight of the trip. He is an inspiring person who is very kind and wise. We learned a lot from his generosity of spirit.

Dan was a fantastic host. We communicated often prior to our visit and he was extremely helpful in offering information that would be beneficial in planning our vacation. The house was huge and the location was gorgeous. We spent a lot of time enjoying the view and nature from the porch. And of course the sheep were totally entertaining! I would highly recommend this location. Thank you, Dan, for a wonderful week.

What a wonder quiet and peaceful place to stay with your family and friend who love the outdoors.
Everything was as he states in the description. He does have a few simple house rules.
To explain further his house is hand crafted with very nice wood counters. He lives on a sheep farm which is absolutely beautiful! These sheep live there and walk around the property in fenced in areas throughout the property and up to the house, meaning there is poop on the ground. For us it not an issue as we live farm land and animals. So his other rule is no shoes in the house to keep the floor from getting dirty. He is a wonderful guy and very informative of things to do in the area. He does stay on the property and works which was nice to be able to ask questions since there is not much service.
It is a wonderful place to disconnect from the rest of the world and live in the mountains. You would wake up at 6 am to the mountain tops being covered with the clouds. We will be visiting again!

Beautiful Landscape, Amazing House
The house is definitely in a remote area, but that is a positive. My favorite part of our stay was waking up before the children, watching the sun rise over the mountains, and enjoying coffee to the sounds sheep bleating and birds chirping. The house is a treasure trove of art, books, and historical familial objects. It is in proximity to so many outdoor activities: kayaking, fishing, historical sites, state parks, biking, and so much more. The property itself is great for walking and exploring. We even found wild blackberries growing nearby! Dan is an excellent and hospitable host, with all amenities being provided. I hope to be able to visit again.

It is a sheep farm!
I think I had higher expectations from staying at other very nice VRBO places. It was, however, shown as a sheep farm in the hills of West Virginia and that's what it was. A few things the owner should have noted to us was that the road to the farm was long, rural and rough. You do need a 4 wheel drive. We should have been told that a cat lived in the house with us (Allergies). The kitchen did not have a coffee maker, microwave or a toaster and the flatware, plates and utensils were not adequate at all. Owner should remove all the knick-nacks around as we were worried about breaking them. One bathroom did not have a shower. Internet was not the best and we were asked not to watch our usage. No shoes allowed in the house either. The view from the house was spectacular and it was very quiet and peacefull. Owner was kind and helpful.
4.9
The house was not clean at all. Dusty beds and pillows. We couldn't sleep from how dusty it was. You have only 3 GB of wifi and you pay fir anything else. Very bad communication. Owner broke in and went through our stuff when we were not home. Very bad communication and rude.

Dan's home is full of discoveries to make! We spent the first night exploring his library until 2am, and the last morning hiking the ridgeline atop his property and picnicking in the shade and birdsong at the edge of the meadow. Dan's full of excellent discoveries, too. Great house, bring boots (sheep make poop), expect rough roads and amazing stars.
