I was little late for my arrival due to delay in flight. When i had called up the hotel. The staff were so polite to take the message and confirmed. Upon my arrival all docs were ready and just need to sign.
Room was nice and comfortable. Only issue the view area from window was to the aircon unit. No view to anything else

I expect some extended hours of free stay and change the time at least upto 2 pm since the job I have come may go few hours extra and then to return to Airport. So many hotels nearby are offering this and to prefer this Hotel for my future stay.

As everyone says, it is an older hotel, which has its plusses and minuses. They have nice art around the hotel and in the rooms. Lots of real wood items unlike in newer hotels. On the other hand, the maintenance needs much improvement. More cleaning is needed of some of the art items which are showing signs of mold. The management and staff are not at the level of top hotels. Looks like they havent really had any hospitality training. This one guy managing the reception desk was abrasive and had no place being in that position. Breakfast was good. If they put some money into refurbishment and improved cleaning, this could be a top hotel once again.

Staff extremely hospitable and courteous. Complimentary morning breakfast was pleasing. WiFi was choppy and not reliable. Out of 12 day stay, internet was out for a full day, and quite disappointing and inconvenient.

Excellent reception staff, especially Ms. Ponni and the sumptuous breakfast topped by tasty filter coffee by Madhu

Good staff and service; Nice breakfast
In bathroom, dry area becomes wet owing to inefficient partitioning; insufficient mats

Stay was excellent. Staff are very well trained and professional. Food was scrumptious at the restaurant. Breakfast was good and the rooms are huge. It is a heritage hotel but worth the stay. Will recommend to others.

It need a big time renovation, all the rooms look crappy and not worth 4 star. There is a bad smoke smell all over the hotel, i wont reccommend this to anyone.

Good location, nice breakfast.I have stayed at this hotel many times and stayed for 6 nights on this visit. This time the experience left a lot to be desired. The cupboard drawer was broken, hair dryer did not work. safe deposit locker was not ready for use and needed a reset by house keeping before it could be used. Some of the electrical sockets by the bedside did not work. On the last day the house keeping forgot to keep glasses (tumblers) and failed to bring these despite 2 phone calls. This time I felt that the hotel was no longer paying attention to small details that makes a big difference for room guests. I will probably stay at another hotel on my next visit to Chennai.

A famous hotel from yesteryears and that is why we booked and paid premium rate. The hotel is badly in need of repair and redesign. The bathroom is old and few accessories didn’t work (I will spare details). However the staff was friendly and breakfast was good. The management should do major renovation, redesign rooms and restore its old glory. Until then charging such high rates is not justified.

I have stayed here a couple of times now. I really like the place and will return. But there are a couple of caveats new visitors should consider.
The pro:
great value if you get a good price (varies by date). The staff is very friendly, helpful and efficeint. The public areas are something of faded elegance with a luxury ambience unexpected at mid range hotel prices in Chennai. The location is convenient for central chennai and quiet as its set well back from a road which is well traveled, but not a major throughfare. This is a big plus in Chennai. My recent visit I was upgraded to a “heritage” room which is very large and comfortable; But even the normal rooms in the other wing are quite ok. The breakfast buffet is exceptional and the restaurant ambience nice.
the cons;
the most serious con is the air conditioning. It probably needs a complete rebuild. The heritage room it worked ok but another room a bit too weak for comfort. The other downside is that which is also part of the charm. It is a distinctly faded elegance. There is a certain shoddiness in places like the elevator interior. At the price of a mid range hotel in India this is quite ok and somewhat the norm. But if you paid 4 star prices you might be disappointed.

The hospitality from a people point of view is good. However, it is an old property and that is evident in the rooms and the facilities there in. The smell in the rooms, though not bad, gives away the age of the building. Given that there are other options in the vicinity, the hotel needs to review their value for money model. It could potentially be a 3-star option in my opinion.

This was my third stay at the hotel. This time I was upgraded to the Heritage wing. I somehow found the Executive wing better. The heritage wing has furniture which looks like from the 60s and the carpets are terribly dirty ! Yes, the rooms are massive, but for a single traveler, one does not need such massive space.Their breakfast spread is wonderful and I used the pool this time. Old world pool with shallow and deep sections, unlike most new pools which have a 4/5 ft. uniform depth.

I chose this hotel because it was the closest I could get to a morning appointment. After entering the lobby, we could smell humidity. Temperature was OK, but obviously the AC had not been upgraded for a while, which explained the smell. Checking in was a bit more hassle than usual (I don't think they see too much non-Indian business, so they wanted to make SURE my passport and visa were OK), which did not exactly made for a stellar welcome (albeit otherwise they were polite). Apparently, no non-smoking rooms for our type of room (I got upgraded to an immense but empty room with a small window, but my travelling companion not, and his room was smelly). Got down to the bar for a few drinks and snacks, which was OK, but like the rest of the hotel it struck us as very old-style, and not in a good way. Service was distinctly non hurried, which was fine for one night but makes this hotel not an option for our future needs.

The Ambassador Pallava was close to where I had meetings and unexpectedly close to attractions like the national art museum. The property is beginning to show its age, but the food and service were excellent.
