Nice hotel. Central position. Rather short of staff on reception. Nice touch two free drinks. Would be nice to book parking in advance. Small room but nicely done

Hotel lacks personality, decor bland modern, lighting harsh as an airport even in bar and dining room, no atmosphere at all. Bar food not good. Accessible bedroom excellent- well thought out with lots of walkable space, very comfortable king size bed. Reception staff helpful, bar and waiting staff would benefit from more training. Hotel position excellent- pity all character has been removed.

Beautiful hotel, the staff go above and beyond to ensure that you have everything you need.

Stayed for the night for my Boyfriends birthday and we were both really surprised with how nice it was, beautiful hotel and really friendly staff. We had a more basic room but it was still perfect for what we needed.

Really nice hotel ! Clean and presentable and a touch of subtle elegance. Only negative was that our shower only ran cold water !

A very quite and clean Hotel.

This is a first class hotel. Very nice if small rooms. The staff were very helpful. Dinning was very good. Parking was available and included Tesla electric car charging (one of two stations working). Located across the street from University and easy walking distance to major sites and museums.

We had a lovely stay at the Gonville. I marked it down slightly due to the room (classic double) being a bit snug, particularly in the bathroom. As the bathroom was so small, a sliding door would work better and could easily be fitted giving more space, it would also prevent the water damage at the bottom of the door, caused by the walk in shower overflowing under the door. The room was long but narrow making it difficult to walk past the bottom of the bed without banging your head on the wall mounted tv. The room was decorated very nicely and had a clean homely feel. One pet peeve at all hotels, is the sticker in the bathroom asking you to be eco friendly by re-using towels, and to leave them on rails if you don't want them changed. But, they still change them!

The location was great. the room was clean. The bathroom was tiny and I am not a big person 5ft 4 56 kilos. Staff were not friendly. The only bar was outside in September. We chose the hotel for parking and location but when we got there there were not parking spaces. We got a space the next day and were charged £26 for one night. We should have stayed in the multi storey which was cheaper. There were no VIP benefits

Excellent service - probably one of the best services I have ever experienced, from reception (Josh was exceptional) to chauffeur Zane.

There was a lot of young unhelpful staff milling around the dining area/ coffee machine just chatting. There was no facility to check in early or even a place to go to have a conference call in relative peace and quiet. Although the place looks well polished in the photos this isn’t the reality as the place looked a bit tired in places

Lovely hotel within walking distance to City. Very close to the station too. Hotel is well kept and the people working on there are very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable, good air conditioning. But, the hot water supply was unacceptable. Wanted a shower before going out in the evening. No hot water. When raised was told ‘old hotel and pipes’ which is very quaint. But not what you’d expect from a £140 a night. No hot water on demand isn’t on for any reason. Had to run the bath taps and the sink taps for ten minutes to get any chance of hot water. Which is wasteful. Especially when you see a notice to save water by reusing your towels ! Dear Gonville owners. You need to get the absolute minimum basics right if you’re charging good money. It was just a real shame and definitely deflated the quality of the weekend away. Staff were very friendly throughout and it’s obvious they’ve had to deal with this issue before.

Good hotel but could be great! Check in was fantastic and the room lovely, hotel in general is very nice and the bed was sooooo comfortable. However bar staff and waiting staff at breakfast where inadequately trained and didn’t appear to be managed which was a shame as the rest of the team were on the whole very efficient.. Room lacked glasses for water and paint had been rubbed off the wardrobe, one of the light switches didn’t work properly and the skirting by the shower was poorly repaired due to water damage. I’d still recommend this hotel, great location the bed was so comfortable and all of the above are easily fixed

The hotel is comfy clean and convenient. Staff very pleasant and good breakfast. A seven minute walk from the station then a seven minute walk to town.

Would book here again. Although our stay this time wasnt 100%. We was in room 4 (possibly an accessibility room as booked last min?) Carpet was stained under table. Could hear Room 3’s T.V. Fire alarm was going off Sunday morning at 9:30am. I was awake anyway. Breakfast took a while. I could sense from other customers they had waited a while too. But…. Hotel is in a great location. On site parking (tight) Easy check in and helpful staff.

The rooms are nice. However the bar area was being refurbished and so there was nowhere for us to go with our dog except the outside bar that had been put up as an alternative. This was untidy and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. The menu was limited with small portions and not value for money. Had we been told about the bar refurbishment when we booked we would have looked elsewhere. Also £26 per night for parking and £25 per night for the dog was rather excessive! We have stayed at this hotel before but the current owners are not doing it justice.

The Gonville ended up being the best hotel we visited on our trip through parts of UK. Beautiful hotel, a/c was wonderful, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely would recommend and will stay again

Lovely hotel , we had a couple of issues which I assumed would get sorted when I reported them but I had to tell them again when checking out and then offered some compensation so all fine and we would def stay there again

Excellent location, hotel and great staff. Only small negative, small parking spaces and parking charge expensive.

The staff here are super helpful and friendly. When we checked in the lady walked us to the room and showed us around. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was huge. Breakfast was fantastic - basically a full restaurant service alongside your typical buffer. The garden bar area is really nice and the quiet garden around the back is peaceful. Good location too - opposite a huge open park, and about 15 minutes walk to the Market Hill in the centre of the town.

Great but short stay. We stayed here several times before. Staff friendly and food good. The bar area is being renovated at the moment but they have opened a bar garden area which is lovely

Good central location & quality property with friendly staff

The hotel was in a beautiful location opposite the par and was very conveniently placed close to all the sites of our interest. The hotel however had a serious problem with hot water supply in the shower and despite the maintenance crew visit this was not resolved within the period of our stay.

We Love this hotel great service great staff well trained. The only reason for the less than excellent is, the rooms were so dark and I mean not enough lighting. It was impossible to read. It may have to do with the energy conservation, and I admire that. But not being able to read in the room is a negative.
