Great staff, great location, great bar and restaurant. It is a 3 Star hotel so not perfect.
I would like to see more and better towels. Also, freezer compartment in the refrigerator would be a bonus.
We will come back here and I would recommend this to my friends.

This hotel is very comfortable managed by very good staff helpful to have smile on their face kind of happy to help would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting. Puerto Vallarta want to be very close to the Malecon. Like two minutes walk

The main perk of this hotel is that is close to the malecón and the city center. Front desk staff was friendly and welcoming. The room was small and the AC made a bit of noise but overall for the price it was good.

Very nice staff, and very clean!!!

The hotel is conviniently located, the room looked recently renovated and in general the hotel in good conditions. I'd some inconvenients with my partner's check and requestung a late check out. I'm not sure if that was because a very unnefficient hotel policy or because bad service at the frontdesk. Also towels at the room needs renovation.

This Hotel is great, right in the heart of downtown and everything is within walking distance. This is my 6 time staying here since I need to come constantly for business purposes. This time came for a quick vacation, the only problem we encountered was that the AC at the Penthouse was not working at different point of the night.

Staff is very friendly. Hotel is in a great location, a block from the malecon, shoping districts & the beach.
3.0 / 5.0
This is a solid budget hotel in a fantastic location, well worth the under $100/night price, but it’s not for everyone.
Pros-
Location- A block off of the Malecone board walk, tons of transportation, perfectly walkable, plenty of options.
Staff- Staff if friendly, speaks English well, and are very helpful.
Hotel dining - Solid in hotel restaurant, no room service, but easy access.
Price- Nice sized rooms for the price.
Cons-
Noise- The hotel is well built, so no room neighbor noise, but PV has cobblestone streets and hotel is on a busy one. Most rooms are street facing, and vehicles are super noisy. This includes late night excessively load people and car radio noise, even very late at night. I used ear plugs every night.
Odors- PV’s high humidity creates a moldy/mildewy smell, largely from the air conditioning unit. It dissipates fairly quickly, but if you’re sensitive, then this isn’t the place for you.
Balcony- Some rooms have a shared falcon and is easy access to next room’s outside door. Door closure seems sufficient, but doesn’t have a separate lock.
No elevator- two floor hotel with no elevator, not too bad, but not for everyone.
Pool- The pool is in the court yard, and feels more like a part of the restaurant and not a separate space. No lounges chairs or anything, and not a lot of sun.
Conclusion-
Great option if you are budget hotel tolerant, if you’re not, look for other locations nearby locations at a higher price point.

Great staff and the rooms really are great. It's a convenient walk to Zona Romantica, the Malecon and the Coexist Bistro makes some really good food, although I only had breakfast there once. I stayed there in April 2023 and came back in April 2024 because I liked it so much.

The staff were great. It was very clean. Although location was great, it was very noisy.

Overall experience was terrible because of the staff. Staff was rude and very inconsiderate towards guests.
We had a total of 3 rooms in this hotel (really wish we didn't) and the check-in process took forever. The hotel only accepted limited payment methods and wouldn't let you keep your bags in the room or even take a shower until you make the full payment first!! At first they sent me a note saying that you need to pay or call us in 24hrs or we will cancel your booking, so, I paid half the amount (through paypal as a workaround) to ensure my booking. I spoke to their representative who knew the issue but at the time of check-in they refused to generate a paypal link and said we would only accept CASH!! I could not even step in to the room after almost 10hr of travel until I paid them in full (all cash). Exchange rate was as per their wish which I found to be really an easy money making opportunity for them.
Alberto B. (one of their receptionist) is till date the rudest hotel staff I've meet and I've been to over 23 countries so far, so he is right up there on the top. He would stop you each time to enter the hotel and check for items you are bringing in (like seriously?), water bottles included. He could not speak english and would only say a sentence or two in Spanish with the word "NO" at the end and make you guess what does he mean. I am pretty sure he was making up rules as he went because none of the emails I received from Expedia or the hotel had mention of pol

The ambiance of Mexico was throughout this 1958 hotel. Close to the ocean and the Malecon. Shopping out your front door. If there was a 4.5 rating, this hotel has it.

All I can say is WORST customer service ever, By the two hotel managers, Guatalupe and her assistant, were the WORST! And we stay in PV and all over Mexico every year for a month long stay, different hotels, I’ve never experienced anything like this place.
BUT The food was amazing, service in the restaurant was good, don’t forget to tell them about your 10 percent discount if your staying here or they won’t give it to you, make sure when you book a room to call these guys before they take your credit card info and give you the wrong room. And OVER CHARGE you for said room. Check your credit cards. If you don’t have a kitchen don’t bring food in your room you will get those little ants everywhere. Big waste of money, Hotel manager lady, made my 8 year old cry, and did not apologize once to us or offer us an upgrade ( even for money ) even though the room we PAID for was available our entire stay RIGHT next to where we slept, the man manager told me to call hotels and take it up with them so I did and handed him the phone only for him to tell them no they were wrong too ! You guys are not welcoming at all ! Worst customer service I’ve ever encountered in Mexico anywhere ! I will never stay here and I will let everyone know how you treated us ! You made 4 days out of my one month stay THE WORST ! we’re coming back in a week and we will be staying in a hotel a block away which was the BEST customer service and very welcoming even tho it’s priced more! Go ahead lie some more

I found the Rio Malecon hotel quiet good. Enjoyed having the mini kitchen for my room. Also enjoyed the restaurants in the area and how closeness of the malecon to the hotel. Enjoyed having a balcony next to my room.
would stay here again.

This is my second stay at this property and again, I had a wonderful time. I worked from my room a couple of days and the internet speed is excellent with routers for every 2 rooms to share. The on site restaurant, COEXIST, is amazing. I've tried something from every section of the menu and everything was very tasty and of high quality. Kudos the chefs for creating great dishes. The team at Hotel Rio is always ready to help you and answer any questions you may have about the area. The Malecon boardwalk is across the street with tons of shops and restaurants. The secluded pool and sun space is really nice and quiet where you can unwind. I will definitely be back... again. :)

Let cation was excellent! Rose at the front desk is amazing! Very helpful and super nice! Love her. The pool isnt a real “ swimming pool that you can actually swim in! It is there for aesthetics! We booked it because of the pool, so that was a disappointment. The rooms are bare bones, but very clean. The restaurant was OK. A lot of traffic, but you’re in the middle of everything, which we enjoyed.

The staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to make your stay perfect. The hotel is great, everything is concrete on the inside of the rooms with colored designs. Soundproof, clean, sturdy. Location is prime! Walking distance to everything in Centro and the Malecon. Restaurants, shopping, drinking, excursions. The restaurant at the hotel is great. Friendly service, decent prices and the food was great. I had several breakfasts, pizza, pasta, seafood and all was excellent. See you soon Hotel Rio!

This hotel is in a fantastic location. Right at your doorstep is the Romantic Zone, Downtown and the Maleconè is not even a block away. The Rio Cualè river market is also right there. The staff are friendly and helpful. I've stayed at a few other hotels in the RZ around the same price and this one is definitely the cleanest! If you're not planning to spend much time at your hotel, this spot is perfect. If you want a place to lounge with a view maybe not for you. This was my second time staying at the RIO and I would stay again.

The service, location, price, and cleanliness are excellent. But our internet was a little slow. I would book w/them again.

The strangest part about the room we had is that you have to put your room key in a box mounted on the wall for the electricity to work. And, the air conditioner was either on because the key was in or off with the key out, no other option to adjust the air conditioner. We didn't need the air conditioner at night but did not have lights without putting the key in the box. I've never seen a set up like this.
The shower did not always have hot water...but did most the time we needed it. It's a basic hotel room, no fridge, microwave etc.
Staff are friendly and it's a super easy walk to the Malecon.

A major problem was no television! In 2024? Other than that, all was good

Have stayed several times and each time is as good as the last. Great location to fulfill you desire away from the money thirty resorts. On site restaurant offers a tasty menu with wonderful wait staff.
2.0 / 5.0
Was a very nice stay. You are right in the middle of the things so on a Saturday night it can be a bit loud, but actually most of the street noise is blocked out up in the rooms. The attached restaurant is a bit pricey compared to what is available right outside the hotel, but that is always true I guess.
The front desk staff was helpful and friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.

This is a great location and older clean hotel. Would stay here again
