I have stayed at Village / Far East Hotels on several occasions of the years and found them very good quality and value for money. However, my first time staying at the Village Hotel Albert Court was "disappointing" at best. When compared to the Village Hotel Katong where I had stayed the previous time in Singapore, the rooms were extremely small and cramped. I knew that the hotel was in an older building but I had expected at least a reasonable sized room. It was also showing several signs of wear and tear indicating a general lack of maintenance. The aircon worked well, far too well! It seemed as if the thermostat was not working properly resulting in the room being freezing cold, no matter what temperature was set. The only alternative would have been to turn it off and rely on the ceiling fan. Another new feature was no longer providing bottled water. I am assuming this to be an initiative of the hotel chain, not just the Albert Court hotel. Presumably this is to appear more "environmentally friendly" by not using plastic bottles. But to say that we should use the water straight from the tap because the water in Singapore has been tested to be okay for drinking really isn't acceptable in my opinion. The water then has to pass through all the piping through the (old) hotel building. Has the water been tested at EVERY bathroom faucet to confirm that it is okay? A close look at the taps/faucet in the room I was in showed build up of calcium(?) or other deposits. Basically, not appearing to be very clean. I am from Australia where the supplied water is also certified as fit to drink but I still run any water that I drink through a filter unit first. I think if hotels wish to stop providing water in plastic bottles they should provide a filtered water bottle filling station, at least one on each floor. I will continue to stay at Village / Far East Hotels in the future, but NOT the one at Albert Court.

The hotel is situated at short walking distance from Rochor and Little India MRT stations with quick connections to the city centre but is also walkable from Bugis station arriving from the airport. The staff was very helpful. The room and the bathroom were clean and well equipped.

It was not possible to set the AC to a certain temperature, cooling down to 19 °C when running. We managed to sleep without AC but it did get a bit too humid and warm. The staff was not able to fix this for us but it might have been only an issue with our room. A few details looked a bit dated.

It was a horrible stay, the staff was rude and clueless, the rooms had issues like leakages, the Aircon wouldn’t work properly! It spoilt my entire trip, horrible breakfast (like it could actually give you food poisoning) and when I asked for cutlery they gave me disposable cutlery!

Fijn hotel met grote kamer (wij kregen een upgrade naar een Premium room), weliswaar zonder balkon of terras, maar wel erg stil en een comfortabel bed. Prima lokatie op loopafstand van Rochor MRT station. Ontbijt was ook erg lekker en varieerde de twee dagen dat we er waren.

Singapore is een dure stad en ook dit hotel was niet goedkoop, maar goed, dat weet je vantevoren.

Location as it is accessible with transportation and food places. Staff are nice and helpful.

Pillow is too hard and fluffy, I got a stiff neck after.
