I think the Meson is such a unique property. It was very comfortable. The staff was so friendly and very helpful. Despite being on a main street, it was very quiet at night. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I would highly recommend it. I look forward to my next stay there.

A darling hotel in the heart of Puebla. Staying in a traditional casona you really feel you've gone back in time but with all the modern amenities. Carlos, the innkeeper, was a joy and we loved everything about our stay here. Highly recommend!

Lovely property, however, I did not notice in the “special instructions” that guests could only check in during a very limited 2 hour time frame. It also said that guests arriving after 3 pm would not be able to check in until the next day. My husband and I panicked, as it was already close to 5 pm by the time we arrived. We thought we really had a problem, as it was New Years Eve, and all of the other hotels in town were full. Fortunately, we were able to contact the hotel and give our arrival time. The guy at the desk said that was no problem and that we could check in whenever. If this is the case, the message about limited check in hours should be removed. What hotel only allows a 2 hour check in time?
Also, the property is a bit of a distance from the town of Taxco and there is no restaurant (they only offer breakfast). Guests should be advised to eat dinner or bring it with them as there is also no other option nearby. Being that it is a distance from town, a restaurant should be available.

Great location, ambiance and food! Minor details on maintenance.

What this hotel lacks in luxury it makes up in charm. It is almost like living in a museum. Be patient with the hot water. It takes time but will get there. The staff is friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast included and the chicken soup is wonderful. My second stay there and hope it won't be my last.

Absolutely lovely experience at this special boutique hotel! The room was breathtakingly furnished, the bed comfortable and many thoughtful touches added to make the stay perfect. The service was friendly and efficient, the breakfast delicious. The location rocks—two blocks from the Zocalo and on a classic street (Toad Alley.)
I will definitely return.

Great location right off main points of interest. Pretty little street. Our room was gorgeous, old furnishings, nice sitting area. Rooms open up onto a shared, courtyard restaurant. Perfect for our needs. Like many hotels in Mexico, hot water is not consistent in shower. The courtyard is a well reviewed restaurant, open to the public. That is good and bad. Great music in the afternoon on the weekend when we were there. Loud late one night when we were headed off to sleep. I rated it a "4" for service, not for any bad reason but simply the lack of a "host" type feel like we have experienced in some of the best boutique type hotels. Staff was nice enough but it didn't feel as homey as some other places.

The location is perfect and the decor is amazing. And the included breakfast is wonderful but I wouldn’t stay again largely because I didn’t have hot water for a shower. Additionally, checkin came with no basic information like check out times, when the front door locks and what to do if you aren’t back or a simple reminder that breakfast is included. It could be so much better.

The staff at the front desk are exceptional, very kind and go out of their way to ensure they meet all your requests...just ask.

The staff is excellent. Bed was nice and room was clean. Hotel is close to great food, museums, the plaza - just a great location within walking distance of everything. Breakfast at the hotel was substandard everyday. The room was warm and the ceiling fan inadequate. Water pressure in the shower left a little to be desired also. This is a common problem in Puebla. Hotel is filled with Mexican antiques and culture.

There are many pluses to this hotel, but negatives outweigh. I could never recommend staying here. As non-Spanish speakers, we struggled to communicate with staff. They treated us well, but we were taken advantage of by restaurant staff in a scam we suspect they repeat. On our last night Luis, our waiter throughout our stay, set 2 bottles of mezcal out and said they were “house mezcals” and proceeded to write down prices for us. The amounts seemed high, but we were willing to pay for mezcal we could not get in the US. When we agreed to the purchase, staff that had been hovering went to the kitchen for an energized conversation, which put us on edge. Once in our room we investigated prices and realized they were inflated by 300% over retail. With limited language skills, we felt it was impossible to undo the transaction that night. I strongly suspect the staff split the proceeds of the scam. We have since contacted the hotel owners and management regarding the situation. They chose to do nothing. Lesson learned: do not be so trusting. A quality hotel should only hire employees they and their guest can trust, and that is not the case at this hotel. A more careful reading of other reviews upon our return, it is clear this is a known issue and that management does not care to protect guests from similar episodes of scams and over-charges.

We spent 3 nights at this fabulous hotel, great location, staff is extremely friendly. I totally recommend this hotel.

The location is great. It’s a short walk away from the Zocalo and steps away from a nice small bar. The breakfast was good.
The staff gave a weird vibe. In particular two of them; they seemed creepy to me. The small table and the dresser in our room had a broken piece. There was a hole in the bathroom wall and the small mirror looked like it had been glued back on. No big deal, but no one wants to see their room falling apart. The shower caps seemed used. One had a small hole and was stretched out (used). When we arrived, the towels were stiff. One had a dirt stain.
The beds were horrible! The worst i’ve ever slept in! I will not be staying here again mainly because of that. I need a good night sleep... especially after being out all day exploring! Also, check your bill. We had a few drinks at the bar and they tried to charge us for an extra drink.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. We traveled with our daughters whom are 6 and 7. The check in was fast and painless, we even got our room upgraded from one king bed to 2 queens without a problem. The hotel is close to everything and has free breakfast and wifi however the wifi connection was really slow. This hotel is not suitable for people that can't climb stairs since there is no elevator. The room has the coolest room key ever...wait till you see ;-)

This hotel is charming, has an excellent restaurant, a welcoming staff, and is situated in a fabulous neighborhood, very close to the center of town. Moreover, there is live music in the courtyard at certain times during the week. I could not have made a better choice or have had a more authentic Mexican experience.

It is in times like this that we can appreciate the true appreciation a hotel has for its guests.
During the earthquake, a staff member came to knock at the door of guests, telling us quietly to leave immediately and wait outside. When it was over we got back to our rooms, which was unscathed. And, on the next day, no one would have known that the worst earthquake of Mexico in the past century had happened just hours ago. That's service, folks. That's service!

Staff were very accommodating and the in house restaurant was as good, if not better, than any of the other restaurants we visited. They had the best chile en nogada, which we thoroughly enjoyed,as well as some local delicacies like escuinte and escamoles. The rooms were very comfortable and although the venue outside our room was lively in the evenings, it stopped at a reasonable hour and the hotel became very quiet. Numerous sites of interest were within a short walking distance including museums, shopping, restaurants and churches. For more distant destinations, taxis were readily available and very reasonable in price. If we return to Puebla, I will stay here again.

The concerge tried his best to make our stay enjoyable but he had to work against significant problems at the hotel. Our toilet did not work consistently, the room was stiflingly hot, little natural light and a confined space . If you waited long enough you would get hot water in the shower, but 10 mins is too long. Overall they did not give value for money. There are much better options nearby

This hotel is just steps away from Puebla El Centro in a 200 year old former residence. The decor is very charming and includes many antiques from the 19th century. The owners are, in fact, antique dealers. The in-house restaurant spills out into the atrium which is a very tranquil garden in the middle of the city. The food is good to very good, particularly, the breakfast fare (included with the stay).

The hotel sells itself a boutique hotel, its NOT (thread bare sheets, towels with huge holes, poor water pressure in Master suite, ragged housecoats, & furniture that is more junk than antique). I contacted hotel in May for a party in November. I sent several emails confirming dinner details & entertainment. POSITIVE: Singer was AWESOME . Check out Los Antiguos Bohemios in Puebla. Performers started on time & played as scheduled. NEGATIVE: the rest of the evening. Wait staff behaved as if the singer had never performed there. She was the only professional amongst them. I reconfirmed the tasting menu in several emails, wait staff clueless. A tasting menu is supposed to be the best the chef has to offer, well timed, and perfectly executed. Ruth Ruiz’s food is below average at best. She needs to learn what great food & service is. Actually Meson management needs a lesson in hospitality. We had an appalling incident with the wine & any hotel worth its reputation would have graciously acknowledged the mistake. Not these people. We paid for THEIR mistake & where willing to move on but again Ms Ruiz showed her unprofessionalism. The tasting dinner went on until 11.30 due to kitchen & bad service. Yet when asked if we could have a cup of tea at 10.10 pm the next night the kitchen was closed & not before Ruth Ruiz displayed incredibly rude behaviour to guests. Mgmt never apologized. No class. Friends stayed at Descanseria: food, service, hotel 100% better, go there.
