Lovely hotel. Fantastic rooftop bar. Staff are gracious, helpful, and so pleasant.

Five star hotel on paper, 3 star in reality. It's worn down and they don't care much about the experience they're selling. When we checked in we received a room at the first floor - it smelled from mold and they "forgot" to tell us that there is scaffolding and during the day workers just walk by our window... they recommended to "just keep your blinds closed"... Yet the lights in the room were broken. That for a full price. After we complained we moved to another room. Was higher up (so no scaffolding) and the lights worked but the smell was still there... and it wasn't the room category we paid for. So the second night they moved us again to a higher floor... this time it didn't smell. They pride themselves with an amazing rooftop, which they're also renting out to private events... Half of the time we didn't have access to the rooftop. The staff is nice, but they're bound by the rules and instructions they're given... I don't blame them... It's the hotel management and owners that seem to not care much. It was our first and last time there.

The hotel was clean and tidy. Room sizes are probably what you’d expect in New York, with great decor and bathroom decor and amenities being particularly good. Staff were very polite (as one would expect for a 5 star). And the property has good views from the rooftop though we were only able to see them during the daytime as there was a private function taking place the prior night and we were only staying one day for the weekend. All in all a great experience at a boutique property that was marginally more expensive than some of the chain hotels (4 star)

Excellent stay for a lot of out of town guests. The rooftop was a perfect place to visit and enjoy the city from above!

Loved my stay at the Refinery. The only thing I would have liked is for guests to be able to take a coffee up to the Rooftop bar in the morning.

When I checked into my room, someone had been laying in the bed and had used the bathroom so I had to change rooms.

Very disappointed. We were excited to try this hotel for the first time as we visit NYC frequently. After checking in, we were told the the rooftop bar and restaurant would be unavailable for our stay. They didn't tell us in advance or before we checked in. So, our plans to meet friends and have dinner on the rooftop were cancelled. We wouldn't have stayed had we known.. They were sneaky in not telling us. The gym is a closet with a tiny window. If a nice gym is important, this place is not for you. The downstairs restaurant was very nice and the food was good. Recommended. The room was a little tired and very dark. Our sink leaked on the floor each time it was used. But the room was acceptable, just not impressive.

We stayed at Refinery for 10 nights as a family of 3. The room was spacious, clean, and safe. We don’t typically ask a lot of our hotel stays and didn’t this time, however, the staff at the hotel checked on us frequently to ask if there was anything they could do for us. The location is great if you want to be in midtown, not in Times Square…but close enough to walk to it. I would recommend the hotel to others looking for a similar stay.

We did not receive any VIP treatment. Also the couch in the room was so dirty with stains. The staff was nice and covered our parking and room tax, but it was definitely not a 5 star experience!

Very small Room but the location of the hotel is excellent. The rooftop bar is good with a view to Empire State Building.

I have stayed at The Refinery with friends several times. This was a weekend getaway with my husband for his birthday. We enjoyed the stay. The front desk and staff are lovely. We had an issue with the bartender at Parker and Quinn who was very rude and belittled me. I will never return. The hotel was horrified by his behavior and the manager of the restaurant reached out. Although they all did their best to rectify his terrible behavior, the night was ruined. It is a shame. My advice would be to go to the hotel. Morgan the manager is lovely and super helpful but have drinks elsewhere.

Convenient location, some attentive staff such as Morgan/Lucy. Resort fees high for value received plus rooftop is managed by separate company to the hotel which shows in their complacent service and attitude

Room was dirty upon arrival. Floor had not been cleaned, found lots of dirt on the floor, including a sewing needle. Did not receive any VIP benefits

Don’t book if you want to sleep in. Horrible noice insulation. Booked this place for the amount of good reviews. The place is really captivating at first as the design is very cool. Once we arrived to our floor , we could smell moist everywhere. Every night sheets felt like they are wet. It’s twice as humid as outside. In the room huge painting almost fell on me as it wasn’t attached to the wall, revealing open cut wires that were originally supposed to light up the painting. Small mirror in the bathroom with light doesn’t work. I found a hair pin on the carpet and stains on some towels. And the cherry on the top is the very heavy room entrance doors that slam every time you use them, so every door that was coming in and out slams so loud that it’s impossible to sleep. Housekeeping kept coming in our room since 8 am on the first nights and slamming doors near by our room, eventually we put a sign to not disturb, and so did all of our neighbors

Nice staff clean good very good

Room was unreal and spacious and comfortable with super tall ceilings. We loved the historic but contemporary design. The rooftop restaurant is a real experience. We had a wonderful stay. Only slight critique is that the check in took a bit longer than I had hoped but they probably got a little surge of people in.

Really nice hotel with spacious rooms and great staff. However a lot of party people seems to stay at this hotel so it can get quite noisy late at night.

My family of 3 stayed for 6 nights. The staff was so friendly thoughtful and helpful. Easy access to subway, shopping and tons of food options. Room was quiet and clean. Highly recommend for couples or families. Would stay there again.

Room way too small.

Had a good stay at Refinery , good sized rooms with all facilities. Good size clean and comfortable beds. Only needed better vacuuming of the room as I’m allergic to dust, which was taken care once told. Room was cleaned on a daily basis and was very comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotels rooftop bar n dining was fantastic buzzing with a lot of people. Overall a wonderful stay.
