If you are heading to Merida- this place is such a wealth of comfort, style and amazing people. The owners, sara and Neil have so much knowledge of the region and the local sights- it'a impossible to truly articulate what a special place this is from their hospitality to the environment, the beautiful design, the delicious food and the overall safety. Truly cannot say enough!

We recently spent a wonderful holiday in Merida. We loved the city and all it has to offer. Staying at The Diplomat was definitely our most favorite discovery. The attention to detail can be appreciated as soon as you set foot on the property. The owners, who manage the property, are wonderful hosts who make sure your stay at their hotel is second to none. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing boutique property. Sara & Neil, and their staff were 10's all around. They are so helpful and knowledgeable with anything you might need during your stay in Merida or anywhere in the Peninsula. Delicious home cooked breakfast of local cuisine everyday was an even bigger plus. Community pay as you go Beers and soft drinks. Hand crafted cocktails made to order poolside. Updated modern rooms, TVs with Netflix and local cable, soft sheets, nice bathrooms, and GREAT A/C. Uber anywhere in centro Merida within 10 mins. And most importantly, top notch, timely email communication with the hosts.

A beautiful small elegant hotel with just five guest rooms, warmly hosted by the owners (a lovely Canadian couple). Highly recommended.

I have traveled all over the world (no lie!) and have had the privilege of staying in some of the finest hotels. And this would rank among one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. The suites are huge. The property is beautiful, private and intimate. The service is personal, accommodating and friendly...never stuffy! The owners’ knowledge of the area was impressive as was their guidance for our best touring options. Sara and Neil got it right! Can’t wait to return.

Amazing customer service! Sara greeted us at the door, showed us our room and pool area, offered refreshments and told us a bit about the area. Bath amenities were very nice made from locally sourced honey.

I can't recommend The Diplomat highly enough! Once you walk through the grand front door, you'll discover a lush oasis just blocks from the historic city center. The rooms were clean, bright and charming and no details were overlooked in the hotel's recent renovation. The owners, Sara and Neil, were wonderful hosts who welcomed us warmly and were excited to share their love for the area. Sara's daily homemade breakfasts and baked goods were a highlight, as was returning after a long day to Neil's (generous) margaritas by the beautiful pool. They recommended excellent restaurants and gladly helped us plan tours, sights to see and even the rest of our stay in the Yucatan after we checked out. Their suggestions and local tips (don't miss the little blue map booklet they have at check-in) truly made our first visit to Merida so much better. Don't think twice about booking this gem - we'll definitely be back!

Just returned from my seventh trip to the Yucatan; for my partner it was the first trip. We both found the Diplomat outstanding. Not only are the rooms lovely and the breakfast superb but Neil and Sarah are as helpful as any hosts could ever be. They gave us super recommendations for places to visit and excellent restaurant recommendations. Noel, the American driver whom they recommend is a treasure. Ten star experience.

This review is an exception as it truly is THE place to stay while in Merida, from the comfort of the rooms, to the absolute 6 star service! The owners make the experience so personal that you feel you are part of their extended family. They have a wealth of knowledge of the area and the breakfasts, wow, the breakfast raises the bar to a new level! For those, like myself, who get carried away researching where they stay, I suggest you just book the Diplomat with confidence and concentrate on enjoying the many experiences Merida has to offer. the best service! the owners take care of every detail ; makes you feel really confortable!

We drove here in a hire car, using a satnav. I was a little concerned we had taken a wrong turn as the neighbourhood looks a little run down. However, we found the hotel, parked up and were greeted by Neil who led us into an oasis of calm and luxury. This tiny little boutique hotel only has 4 suites so book early to avoid disappointment; you won't regret it. It really is gorgeous, impeccably designed and furnished, and supremely comfortable. Sara and Neil went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable, from the welcome drinks and snacks when we arrived to giving us recommendations for our (brief) time in Merida and booking us a table at their favourite restaurant. We had to leave early the next morning and were fully expecting to miss breakfast, but Sara got up early especially to make us coffee and delicious breakfast burritos! Amazing hospitality. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night, but we will definitely return. Thanks Sara & Neil, amazing hosts and beautiful hotel.

This was a wonderful stay, I loved the quite intimate atmosphere, everything was impeccable and the rooms and common area´s design and architecture is just gorgeous. The couple that owns and manages the hotel are extremely nice and friendly, truly a pleasure to get to know!
