This place was interesting, looks nicer online than in person. The area around wasn’t pretty and was kinda sketchy. They didn’t have a microwave in the room like said, and the phone in the room didn’t even work, the AC also barely worked.

The coffee machine had water left in it that was too old and mold had grown inside the coffee machine and the water had turned yellow

My family and I did not feel safe at the Gateway Motel. The area surrounding the motel and more importantly the clientele made us feel unsafe. In addition guests were noisy, yelling and slamming doors into the middle of the night. Motel employees did not address disruptive and rude guests. I would not recommend staying here.

You get what you pay for; Would not have family with Children stay here; All nite man in next room was Shouting and Cursing. It's Clean but basic.

Very nice spacious rooms, the floor was a bit dirty but nothing unbearable. I stayed here when I wanted to visit the aquarium; this was a great location. There are many places across the street and nearby such as many dining options and plenty of shopping. Great deal for the price

Our room was huge with a separate bedroom for the kids! But it was noisy. You could hear every step above us, the water running whenever the upstairs guest used theirs. Great value, spacious room, but you get what you pay for.

EVERY THING WAS PERFECT

The family suite was just the right size for our three children. The price couldn't be beat, and we loved its location between Marina and Monterey. But upon arrival we found the room to be unclean in many areas (table, baseboards, bathroom vent, towel rack, smudgy sliding door, dusty blinds, and window screen flapping in the wind. The front desk attendant made sure the areas were cleaned each time a request was made, and the window screen was replaced before the end of our stay. Apologies were made but no discounts were offered. Functionally the room was great.

Neighbors above me appeared to be running around constantly causing the entire room to shake. Walls generally are very thin. You can hear a lot of noise from all your neighbors. AC unit in my room was broken. I requested it be fixed—it wasn’t. No luggage carts. Not a very nice area, there were people fighting in the alley connected to the property. Room was clean when I arrived. Only two towels provided, which is insufficient when the room isn’t being cleaned every day. Narrow parking lot filled with large vehicles making it difficult to park when the lot is close to full.

The area is not safe… there are homeless people everywhere. The beds were very uncomfortable.

Good value for money. The property itself is pretty well maintained, both exterior and interior. The rooms are updated, clean, good housekeeping. Only thing I'd add is to update the pillows, they are worn out. The area itself is not in a pretty part of the town, so the neighborhood looks sketchy. But the Italian restaurant Gusto next door is an amazing place - upscale and great food. Overall good cost effective place to retire for the night and get out to Monterey/Carmel areas to explore. It's also very close to coast line, almost walkable.

I booked this hotel because most of the reviews said it was okay- absolutely not. What you see online, is not what you will see in person. The place is extremely dirty. I didn’t even feel safe walking my dogs outside because there were so much cigarettes, broken glass, and trash on the floor. I was told I could only have a room on the bottom floor since I brought my two dogs- total lie. Everyone above me had big dogs and you could hear every single movement not allowing myself or my dogs to sleep. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, pillows were extremely flat- even when I asked for more it was useless. I walked into weird goo on the walls and a blanket with red spots and dirt. I only had 5 channels on my TV and the AC was super loud and only blew lukewarm air. This morning we were awoken to the police trying to enter someone’s room. When we opened our door there was an unhoused woman sleeping on the floor. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Save yourself the disappointment!

The beds were really comfortable, I wanted to take one home! The showers are nice, probably recently remodeled.

Very helpful and friendly staff that accommodated my 2 friends and my service animal in training who is a bit naughty right now since we’ve been apart. They are wonderful and I appreciated their kindness in a very uncertain and crazy time in my life!

Over all it was a good stay. The mattress was a little too firm for me.

We stayed in a unit with 2 double beds and a twin bunkbed. Value is fair. Steel bunkbed was squeaky at the slightest movement. Conveniently located near restaurants. The unit was quiet considering it is on a busy street. Check in and out was easy.

The room was clean but small. No dresser so no drawers to put clothes in. No closet. Just narrow shelves to put things on. It would be hard to stay in this room for more than a day or two. I was by myself so maybe other rooms are bigger and have more furniture. The "grounds" are pretty scraggly. Clearly some years ago they had some good ideas about the grounds, but maybe the pandemic hit them hard. The immediate area is unimpressive, a strip mall across the street. But literally on the same block, right next to the motel, is the best Italian restaurant I've ever eaten in. And of course, convenient to the ocean and Monterey.

The worst hotel I have ever been to did not stay because of condition of the hotel left did not get a refund staff was extremely rude very disrespectful a filthy disgusting hotel.

The motel is in the middle of town so you have easy access to grocery stores and gas stations. There is a recycling center right by it and it opens at 8am so you cant even sleep in. The beds are very very uncomfortable very hard and squeaky metal. The walls are so thin you can hear the conversations next door. If the motel is sold out there is no parking available. There is construction being done so it is extremely loud. Our key was giving us issues from the first night turned out that the battery on the door was low so they had to come in the middle of the night and replace it.

The only problem is the beds are too noisy.

Was a great place for a quick overnight sleep. A little noisy in the late hours however we didn’t notice any homeless people around. Would rate higher but we lost a pair of earphones there. And even though we knew exactly where they were we were told on the phone that someone else already called and they already looked. This was impossible as we were the only ones who could have called and we had not.

This property was a delightful find. It was a clean, well cared for, and appear to be recently remodeled property. Our room was clean and minimally decorated but had everything that we needed. Beds were not terrible. The the location was good, it was easy to get to the beach, easy to get to somewhere to eat, and there was a grocery store nearby. For the price it was a great little hotel.
