We loved our mini break at House on a Rock - the house is lovely, the location incredible - amazing views of this beautiful part of the world.
The location does mean access is tricky - challenging when you arrive with luggage and provisions for your stay. Not such an issue for us and the kids but it was not the easiest for my 85 year old Mother!!
We all agree - House on a Rock was worth the effort. All in all - this is a special place and we hope to return.

Property very nice... Except the house have no drive way. We have to park on the street than walk down with all our luggage to the house and the way down is very steep...other wise property is perfect for relaxing vacation...I hope the owner get a drive way soon...

Each year my sisters and I treat ourselves to a holiday somewhere on the South Coast. Of all the houses we have vacationed in this house is the most unique and spectacular place we have stayed. The house is beautifully designed in harmony with its amazing location and well-appointed with all you need. Situated on a headland between two lovely swimming beaches at Bundeena, the view over Port Hacking to Sydney is endlessly fascinating. Highly recommended for those looking for something truly out of the ordinary.

Nav was very patient, accommodating & understanding when I needed to postpone this booking twice due to unfortunate life events. The wait was well worth it, staying at the house on the rock was a magical experience. The home is modern & pristine with everything needed for a short stay. The afternoon sea breeze means the summer heat was not felt inside as the air flow/breeze through all the open doors & windows was lovely & the ceiling fans were more than sufficient for a comfortable sleep. Yes there is a steep hill to get to the secluded home (what you pay for) but having read the reviews I bought a beach trolley for ease of moving all the weekend supplies. There are always solutions! The location of the home is absolutely breathtaking & peaceful & other than walks on the beach, swims & snorkeling all within seconds of the front door, we were so happy staying put as “where else would you want to be”. We loved every second spent here & well worth the money spent. We will return!

We had the most perfect weekend @ The house on the rock.
We couldn't have asked for a more special location.
Thank you

There is no parking, no proper road to enter the house, and no access to cupboards. No aircondition. I have stayed in so many farmhouses, beach houses, and all other types of luxury accommodations but this one is not worth that price. Anyway, thanks for the accommodation.

Wonderful destination. Very silent, nice vicinty. Far away from the trouble in the city-center. Wonderful travel to the city-center of Sydney with ferry and train. Every time one more time.

I would like to provide some feedback on this property as I don't believe the "path situation" is presented to the public as it should be.
The view from this house is obviously outstanding and ultimately what attracts people to the property.
However, the entrance to the property is ridiculous in fact I would go as far as to say it is dangerous and a risk to anyone!
There is no real path and the gradient is quite steep with no real support, it is just over grown grass.
My children are all extremely fit young adults and they struggled with the path (which isn't even a path!) particularly when carrying luggage.
My other disappointment was the standard of accomodation. No toiletries provided at all (other than hand soap) and things were old and rusty in the ensuite bathroom - not what you expect when you are paying these rates!
We were unlucky enough to arrive on a 39 degree day and again - no air conditioning in the property!
I was also amused by their "house book" which requests that guests help their house keeper by emptying the bins - I am sorry but do they not realise that when you are on holiday and paying top dollar that is exactly what you expect the house keeper to do!
Anyway, needless to say overall it was fine but very disappointing - the owners must have high insurance as the path is a definite risk to anyone renting this property!

This is just an idyllic spot. if you want somewhere very quiet and restful the house and town are perfect. Please note when they highlight the access issues they really mean it. Quite steep and somewhat slippery. Also, no air conditioning. Would be quite toasty in summer. Another fan so there is one for each bedroom would be useful.

Great location and views!
Much care required getting into the property as its a steep decline to the rear where you need to enter the property from. Need to be wearing runners, some of us had to walk down barefoot, it had been raining and it was very slippery.

A little slice of heaven. You know a place is good when you don’t bother to go out when there. Thoroughly enjoyed and hope to return one day.

A beautifu house in an absolutely stunning location. Amazing views over the bay, very peaceful. The house was well-equipped and spacious. Entry as per some other posts was a bit steep and grassy but well worth it for the houses positioning and views. Had a great stay and loved the area

Lovely comfortable property, location could be difficult for some as access is through a steep council grass walkway that is not evenly graded. Parking is an issue. The view is gorgeous and the property has everything you need and great proximity to the town, National park and waterways. Very peaceful stay. Highly recommend.

Great property, great location, amazing views. Access to the property from the street a little tricky - on foot down a grassy embankment. Might be hard for the elderly. Otherwise a fantastic trip 😊

This is a fabulous house and Bundeena is a real surprise. We swam in June and the walks and whales were very special. We hope to be back soon

We very much enjoyed our stay here. The house is beautiful and the location is stunning. Will definitely be back again. Highly recommend.

The overall house was nice , not enough seating in lounge room. There were 3 of us and that was the only lounge seating available.
Unfortunately it rained and were indoors. The television was not up to the stand of a luxury house.
No undercover area where you won’t get wet.
A little bit of updating needed for the price you pay per night.
The access to the house is non existent. If you have a back , knee , issues or wheel chair you have no chance of getting to this house even worse in the rain slippery and dangerous.

Lovely property, very quiet with incredible views and light. Well stocked and comfortable.

Beautiful property with amazing views and natural shoreline landscaping. Sunrise and sunsets are amazing from the deck. Well appointed house, comfortable bedding. Parking is challenging, the home is hidden among others on the street. We arrived after dark which was an additional challenge with the steep grass path to and from the property. Know this going in to the stay and this becomes a small challenge for a big payout. Great owners, excellent communication.

The views from this place are amazing, property is great... the only thing that was a negative is it rained the day before we checked in and the slope you walk down to the property was very muddy and slippery. When they say its a steep slope it very much is and parking is a problem as its only street parking and its minimal as the beach is close walking distance

This property, once you get to it, is very nice. The house is comfortable and the views are spectacular. However, it is very difficult to walk to the house having to use a steep grass hill with no sidewalk or handrails. While there are some provided amenities inside the house, there is nothing welcoming. The house has a very nice outside deck but has no patio furniture other than a picnic table to sit at. What could be a sensational vacation spot is mediocre at best.

I don’t think we’ve stayed in a house with such a gorgeous private view and a generous, well designed deck that captures it all beautifully! A very short walk down to the little sandstone cove for morning and evening dips. Walks to the wharf and to Shelley beach all without getting in the car. Great kitchen, lovely lighting to flick on at night to light up the trees prettily. It was idyllic and a place we’ll remember:).

Beautiful house with spectacular views over Gunyah Beach and Port Hacking. Well equiped and sparkling clean. Will come again.

We loved the location, with its outstanding views out over the water. The house is modern and everything worked well. Really enjoyed having Gunyah beach one minute from the front gate and Jibbon beach less than 5 minutes walk away.
The access down a grassy slope is unusual but works well as long as everyone visiting is in good shape. There was plenty of on-street parking nearby. Property owner was responsive to our questions.
A great place to stay.

Stunning location as the listing photos shows. The house is so open and airy with views in all directions and from every room.
The beds and bedrooms comfortable. Good bathrooms.
Great kitchen with everything. Deck and outdoor areas are sensational. Very good hooded bbq. Huge auto awning for extra sun protection. The beach is just down the steps. A beautiful quiet beach. Feels private, like just for locals. Clear, calm and safe. I highly recommend you stay here…. a place one dreams to own for themselves.
(Regarding the access. It is a grassy slope that is just a public pathway to beach between houses. It’s not that steep. Many people going up and down to get to beach. With ease.
But it’s the length of path from road where you park to the house. A good 40 metres. So if your not up to carrying all your stuff in out and all your food shopping don’t stay here. I was surprised how far it was but I was still very happy and had an excellent stay)

This is a fantastic property with stunning views from every room. Wrap-around decks, as well as a well-appointed kitchen and laundry room meant we had everything we needed for a great stay. Bundeena is a charming town, and from the house it's only a short walk to all the cafes and the supermarket, with secluded Gunyah Beach just steps away. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer, and would love to go back someday.

If there is a lovelier, elegent yet understated holiday property, I've yet to find it. Whilst a tad difficult to access because of the slope.... that is also part of the charm. Once there, everything you could wish for is on hand, and that is before you take in the incomparable views. Wonderful.

Beautiful views and close access to the beaches in a lovely, quiet beach side town. It is a long way from anywhere but the local IGA is well stocked. The house itself is beautiful, clean and the best appointed kitchen we have come across. Only concern was the collapsing deck which nearly claimed a victim due to the trip hazard, and the rotting pergola which feels like it will collapse at any moment. Also, access was very difficult for those with physical disabilities as there is no driveway, parking or path to the property. Despite this we really loved our stay here and would come again.

Nav is a great communicator and made sure we had easy access. The house is beautifully situated and the pantry well stocked.

Enjoyed time away with 3 friends at HOTR celebrating a birthday.
HOTR is something special, the home and location providing you with options to do as much or as little as you like. Great walks, swimming at nearby beaches or secluded tidal pools and the ferry is a great way to travel to Cronulla for lunch.
Note: you do need to be prepared for on-street parking and site access has a steep incline that would be an issue for those disabled.
But if this isnt an issue for you then I would highly recommend HOTR for anyone looking for a short getaway close to Sydney.

Beautiful property in a stunning location.
Access tricky, particularly in wet conditions but the trip down the path is worth it.
Great location within walking distance to Bundeena shops, beaches and walking trails

Would definitely be back and enjoy it again and spend more time in the beautiful area.
Was like a little adventure to just find the front door made the adventure very fun

Every thing was perfect thank you so much for your hospitality and your friendly help. Don’t know when but we will be back for sure.
It was an amazing place and an escape for us short but lovely. Thank you

Really stunning location and lovely ambient feel. Queen beds in two bedrooms and third room is a twin. All have lovely views to the water. The only tricky part as mentioned by others is access to the property down an embankment - but honestly it's worth it if you are able bodied. Lovely walk into town. Whisper quiet at night.
We loved our stay and we would return!!

This house and the setting is absolutely glorious. We were very fortunate with calm and sunny weather so enjoyed everything it could offer.
I read the reviews about difficult access in wet weather, but hadn't really appreciated the challenges. We stayed with my parents who are older but still agile. Even so, if it had been raining recently or we'd checked in in the dark I do not know how we would have managed to get them inside safely. I understand that the sloping grass entrance way is the council's responsibility but this property is sadly not suitable for anyone with any physical frailties.

Great location, beautiful house. Access to house needs to be fixed, slippery when wet
