What was there not to love-it was very clean, well decorated, hosts were warm, helpful and friendly, breakfast was delicious and presented in a beautiful setting!

Beautiful, conveniently located property. Host were wonderful. Very clean, had everything you could want. Breakfast was amazing. Would highly recommend the Black Lantern to anyone needing a stay in the area.

A bit away from downtown but not a problem as it’s a short drive

Super cute BNB. We stayed in the suite/attic room and it was so spacious. We were only there overnight but would have happily spent more time there. Breakfast was delicious and perfect to eat out on their little porch. I would absolutely stay here again if I were in the area.

Not really a dislike but just a caution that their sign is a bit hard to see. I drove past it the first time and had to turn around. (They did give perfect directions but it's just easy to miss!)

We truly loved the location in relationship to the city of Roanoke. Also, the room was very spacious, clean, and quiet. The breakfast food was excellent and the hosts were very accommodating. It felt like a home away from home.

Chris and Jayne were so welcoming it felt like we were visiting friends. It was an adorable homey atmosphere. We will be back.

Chris and Jayne are wonderful hosts. Although we only stayed one night, we felt we made friends. Cannot wait to stay there again and be able to explore more places, do some hiking when the weather is more cooperative.

The owners were wonderful and explained the history of the building. great location, impeccably clean, great common area with kitchen and balcony; everything is very thoughtful; the breakfast was exceptional

Such nice hosts, beautiful property, comfy bed, and amazing attention to details with everything we needed and more. Lovely covered open air eating area for a glass of wine in the afternoon and a delicious breakfast.

Comfortable, spacious, tastefully decorated, well equipped with the necessities. No notices or placards telling you what not to do. Private parking.

Easy to miss the front entrance way. A little tricky to approach by road.

Loved the Black Lantern Inn! I highly recommend staying here if you are looking at the Roanoke area. I was able to walk and bike out the door. The breakfast was fresh and delicious. And Jayne and Chris were phenomenal hosts. I'd definitely stay again!

The breakfast was amazing and the owners really tried to cater to my needs. The bed linen was clean and smelled good, the cleaning of the room was thorough and prompt.

Both breakfasts were good and more than enough food! Loved the ‘pancake’ and the fresh fruit, organic, homemade, locally sourced foods, were a special detail we appreciated. Privacy, with attentiveness and helpfulness! Chris and Jayne could not have been kinder, friendlier or more helpful; full of tips and trips, food ideas, housing ideas for our college grad, everything was SUPERB! The house is beautiful, private,cozy, and so clean. All details were given attention. Plus Jax pup was so well-behaved, and friendly when prompted, we fell in love!

The ONLY thing we could even begin to mention is the place is a little tricky to see on the first try. Our innkeeper’s email warned us, so we found the driveway but did appreciate the second chance from behind the property (with great signage) if we had missed it on our first attempt.

The breakfast was excellent! We loved the unique homemade offerings that showcased local and organic ingredients. It was awesome waking up to a hot pot of coffee and pastries, and the personalized menu greeting us each morning was an extra special touch! We also enjoyed chatting with our hosts. They made us feel welcome like family. The location was ideal for our weekend plans. We were able to walk to several breweries, restaurants, and entertainment venues. And it was a short, simple drive to the Roanoke Star. The area felt very safe. We hope to return some day and will recommend highly to friends and family! Thank you Chris and Jayne!

I really can’t think of anything I didn’t like! This was our first stay at a B&B and I think they set a very high bar!

I was on a road trip with a friend, and had a early departure which I assumed would mean we would miss breakfast. Instead, the owners prepared a DELICIOUS bag of treats for our trip and had a hot pot of coffee ready for us when we woke up. They went above and beyond. Also, their recommendations for a dinner spot were excellent.

Chris and Jayne are extremely hospitable and treat you like family. Theirs is a GREAT location that is close to downtown, the star on Mill Mountain, and Black Dog Salvage. 10/10 recommend the Black Lantern Inn! We absolutely LOVED them!!

This was a great place to stay with easy access to the historic district in which we were interested. The room was extremely roomy and comfortable. The whole property is maintained in immaculate condition. The hosts we very congenial and helpful with local information and recommendations; a bulletin board with comprehensive info about local attractions and restaurants was also available. The breakfast was both healthy and delicious. I cannot think of any amenity that was missing, and there were even frozen ice packs available on departure to keep our small cooler cold.

I don't really have anything negative to say about the property. There were rather a large number of steps as our room was on the second and third floor, but I would still request that room anytime I say in the future.
