Right from the moment we arrived the ambiance was relaxing and welcoming, this was a break on route to a meeting and allowed us to relax prior to this. My husband enjoys hiking and I wanted to relax and enjoy the spa. The hiking and walking in the area was fantastic and he got up early each day to walk. We are planning a return as there was so much to do and see. As a surprise I booked us an evening couple massage with Donna and Reena they were both lovely and accommodated our individual requirements. The spa facilities were well laid out and certainly achieved the objective of giving us relaxation time. We also had a meal in the hotel which was delicious my husband ordered the chocolate nut tart and pistachio ice cream dessert and it was a total delight.
We changed rooms as we booked an extra night in the main building which is the older part and not a balcony room which was my original booking. I am glad we changed to the main building as the newer part did not have the same character although it overlooked the swimming pool. Not a complaint as much as pointing out this was in my opinion what I preferred.

It’s a nice building. It has an unheated pool which is popular. The location is good, plenty of parking close to each section of the rooms. The breakfast was nice as was the bar. Would stay again
At the risk of being picky, the sausages were not good and we found some hairs in the bathroom but the reality is they were so minor.
3.5
The Spa is small but perfectly adequate. I had a massage with Donna which was exceptionally good !! :)
We had dinner in the restaurant one night which was very nice.
There was broken glass glistening on the carpet as we opened the door to our room. Clearly the room had not been hoovered. There were blood stains on the towels. Clearly they had not been checked and replaced from the previous guests. The bed was so hard we had to ask to move rooms where the bed was much better.

The staff were lovely.
How dated the room was. £130 a night we expected to have a half decent room not a room with a extremely old bathroom in and in need of changing due to the bath panel hanging on just and the sink also seemed to be on a slant as though that was ready to fall off.
It was in need of re decorating alot of marks around not only on wall but on the carpet.. Paint work missing patches.
It just is really dated and in need of refurb especially with what it's costs a night.
I was gutted really as I read it had been refurbed but then we must have got one of the oldest rooms there. We had a perfect view of the pool and believe me I wouldn't have gone in it. From our room it looked not very clean and had black in the bottom of it. The spa facilities wasn't used due to having to book?
It's got potential to be something good if some money was put into it.
The staff we couldn't fault at all.

The location
The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment and modernisation. We were originally put in the “Garden Annex” which can only be described as a run down 80’s council flats. The bathroom was mouldy with paint flaking off the ceiling, the carpet was so baggy it was a trip hazard. The so called pool view was depressing.
Luckily after complaining we were moved to the main hotel which wasn’t much better to be honest. Slightly newer decor and cleaner but still very disappointing for the money. The staff were very friendly and helpful, hopefully the hotel invests in the staff as well as the hotel as they are really the only redeeming feature.

The room was very comfortable. We didn't go swimming but obviously other guests were making good use of the pool!

Good
Bed could have been bigger, just a standard double

Set in nice grounds with an outside pool. Booked a Junior Suite and it was comfortable.
Staff are pleasent.
Parking on site and location. Easy walk to Matlock Bath and Crompton. .
Got allocated wrong room, standard double with wall paper peeling off. Got rectified quickly..
Loud porter after 11pm talking too loudly to the folks next door about moving rooms. Wonder if they ever got a decent shower and in which room.... Below someone was rearranging furniture at 11pm too on a wood floor.
No hairdryer, had to ask and half eaten bag of crisps in the drawer. Not sure if this was the previous guest or cleaners private stash.
Chairs in garden need replacing very uncomfortable.

The location was unique and tranquil
We booked a superior double room however room 14 was barely able to contain the bed ! There was not a chair to sit on and the only window looked out over a flat roof with no view other than a fire escape .. when we went back to our room we had to sit on bed .. we booked for 3 nights .. it was like a prison cell .. there were other rooms that seemed to have a view but our room did not resemble anything that the booking.com website portrayed as a "Superior room"

The outdoor pool is really what I go there for (my 3rd visit) but I was told it didn’t open until 10am (BH Monday) and as I had to leave 0930 I missed a morning swim but there were people in from 0800 many of which we also guests staying at the hotel. The staff are hard working, professional and friendly. Noah worked his socks off at breakfast this morning. The receptionist had to help him eventually as he was the only ‘waiting’ staff which was crazy as the hotel was full (as explained by the receptionist). Noah also did a brilliant job in the bar on Saturday night along with the manager. The dinner was delicious and well presented. The team on our visit were great, a credit to the hotel so look after them!
Pillows were terrible! Thin, flat and stained. I requested two extra ones which were just as bad and even one didn’t have a pillowcase because they couldn’t find one. We like the garden rooms overlooking the pool and while I noticed the rooms have been re-vamped since our last visit, the bathrooms are very dated but everything was clean. Ran out of plates at breakfast, coffee too but it was too hectic for one person to manage. I suggest a sign telling guests not to put croissants through the toaster as there was a lot of discarded burnt ones. The setting needs to be adequate for your bread/crumpets etc to be cooked to a nice colour first time through as going a second time burnt them too creating a lot of smoke. Would have liked some cooked tomatoes at breakfast but I did ask for vegetarian sausages which I had with mushrooms and baked beans (I don’t eat eggs).

Beautiful house..the annex is quirky and great to be by the pool.
The annex would benefit from an update to make it more luxurious, but good value.
3.5
it was a lovely place to staff with the most fantastic staff you could hope to have serve you.
the rooms do need modernisation but the are also quaint aspects to the hotel and i hope they bring it up to date.

The location was perfect for me. The outdoor pool was wonderful. Breakfast was without fuss as so often being allergic to gluten and intolerant of dairy tends to create a fuss. A really good range of breakfast options. I always sleep well here.
3.5
The pool! Felt like I was abroad on holiday. Can't wait to come back. The staff and guests were so friendly.
Small room, windows didn't work. No fridge. Was very clean and tidy though!

Location
Was a little run down I felt
Staff could have been more accommodating
3.5
The breakfast was excellent as was the food in restaurant. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful.
Although the garden room was clean and comfortable we were a bit disappointed that their appearance was of an old Butlins holiday cabin. Also there had been a power outage on Wednesday (through no fault of there own). There was no notification to guests that there would be no evening meal, so had to find one elsewhere.
3.5
Comfortable without being too formal. This is not the height of luxury but it’s good value for money and it’s clean, and friendly. We’d certainly come again if the opportunity arises.
We didn’t stay long enough to find fault

Lovely location, food was very good in the restaurant.
Being told on check in that we would be upgraded to a superior twin room, when that is what I had booked and paid for in the 1st place?? Shower was faulty, l was advised it couldn't be repaired over the weekend as the maintenance man was not back until Monday, after the repair it was still faulty. The buffet breakfast was excellent, but on one morning there was hardly any food left by 8.am. No attempt been made to bring out more food, despite more guests entering the dining room for breakfast. No juices or milk. l asked for some coffee and the waiter brought out an replacement coffee dispenser, but it was empty!. Several of the guests just walked out. Maid service didn't replace the room tea and coffee items, kept having to pop to reception for milk etc.

Breakfast very good. Location good for visiting different locations.

Fantastic spring water pool, water is cool though. Nice room overlooking pool and part of cliff side. Comfortable bed and pillows, bath, tea, coffee etc great place.
Maybe let bar supply a cheaper and to go breakfast & dinner options?
3.5
great location, friendly staff , good service. Went for a bar snack for dinner and it arrived promptly. I was working but ideal for a leisure stay
breakfast choice is a bit eclectic i.e. smoked salmon and cream cheese. Ordering coffee and finding a seat for breakfast is a little haphazard

Just wanted a couple of days away with my friend the hotel was ideal it was ideal walking distance to town had a lovely stay well looked after ! Breakfast was lovely plenty to eat we had a room looking out st the pool! Shame it was being maintained while we were there! All staff i met were nice, the annex rooms look quite rough from the outside and could do with a lick of paint but were nice inside, breakfast was quite a limited choice, cold meats.cheese, bread, fruit etc,but it was ok for my 1 night stay...expensive for what you got though
3.5
The breakfast was good but the service was appalling

Service was brilliant and professional.
Room was super large and everything worked.
Lido Pool was superb - I wish more hotels had them.
I would stay again but really would like a cooked breakfast.
Breakfast is continental only. Disappointing as I had done a good swim early in the morning and was ready for a hearty cooked breakfast! Alas, £10 for continental is high.
