I loved the big beautiful comfortable room. I also loved the warm friendly staff.

Good location for us. Much improved since we stayed there (as L’Angleterre) some years ago. Smart. A very good breakfast.

Some details of our room should have been better. The nice old wardrobe wouldn’t close properly. There wasn’t sufficient light near the close-up mirror in the bathroom. The sink emptied very slowly.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Nice courtyard / garden area to sit in which was lovely and quiet in the middle of the town.

Some areas slightly tired looking. A corporate retreat group got very noisy late one night and the staff could have been a little more assertive in getting them to quiet down a bit so other guests coupe sleep (after 1.30am when they packed it in).

Good value breakfast, and the hotel is beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for everything that La Rochelle has to offer. Parking in the underground public carpark is easy, nearby and a decent price

The soundproofing of the old rooms is dreadful. You can hear every word of your neighbours. And we had four children above us who sounded like a herd of elephants. But the hotel moved us (twice) and we’re apologetic. If you are sensitive to noise, this might not be the hotel for you, unless you get a smaller room on the top floor in the new wing

Stayed for 2 nights in December to watch a Rugby match. La Rochelle is a beautiful historic port and the hotel fits perfectly. It's an old building but typically French and you'll not be disappointed with high ceilings, panelling and architrave. The hotel staff were wonderful. The breakfast was great with plenty of hot and cold food. We travelled by car and there is a council run car park about 2 minutes walk away where the hotel has discount prices. Overall, delighted and we will come back again - in the summer this time. Or the Rugby of course.

The bed was comfortable and the breakfast selection was excellent. the outdoor area looked lovely. The check in assistant at reception was very helpful and friendly and did her best to improve our stay.

We booked a double room on line. it was on the street level, incredibly small and overwhelming stuffy. Windows opened but direct onto the footpath. I did not feel safe. There is AC in the room but ‘they turn it off after summer’!!! It is supposed to be a four star hotel! I asked for another room and we’re advised only one left - we upgraded to a suite called Quebec. It too was street facing but large and recently renovated (except for the bathroom which was old and tired and small). No lift to this level - we carried our own bags upstairs. It was a noisy room with street traffic, and early morning road works in the street.

Ideal location. Great breakfast. Fantastic comfortable beds.

Shower not designed for a tall person like me.

Lovely hotel, very helpful staff. They were happy to help accommodate 3 children in a suite with an extra bed, preventing us from separating as a family, which would have been a pain. Great location.

A fridge in the room might have been nice.
