Payment was a nightmare. They do not accept credit cards of any kind. I have now paid twice and have no idea how I’m going to get a refund. Also overdrafted my checking account to get this cash and also pay on PayPal twice it seems. Perhaps I missed it on booking.com, although I looked several times and didn’t see, but you can only pay with cash or a local Colombian bank transfer. I ended up spending about half of my time here figuring out how to pay. I owed about 1.3M COP. About $320 USD. The one single ATM in town that I walked 40 minutes to and then 40 minutes back was out of order. People said it was closed because of New Years, and then also the day after New Years, makes no sense. I then tried to download bancocolombia and vivavienda and could not set up an account because I’m not Colombian/don’t have a Colombian bank account. Daveis then showed me he had PayPal, so I sent him the money there. He didn’t however tell me his was a new account so the app would need 24 hours to verify his account. Naturally he didn’t trust he would get paid but then of course this put the onus on me to pay multiple times. We then drove 30 minutes one way then 30 minutes back to a nearby town to get cash. The ATM room was crowded with people which was scary because I needed so much cash and had to run my card twice because the limit was 600K COP. Daveis seemed to me full of machismo and didn’t seem to care how much he inconvenienced his guest. His wonderful wife was so much kinder and seemed to feel bad. It hurts me to even write this review because she was so kind. That incredible annoyance aside, the place is beautiful but very bare. So be ready! No hot water, bugs all around, you’re far from town, and the electricity goes out from time to time (not unique to this hotel but just FYI). The cabana though is spacious and you hear the ocean all around.

Location is great, rooms are awesome — but the secret sauce to our exceptional stay was the staff who take care of the property. They are amazing, every single one of them is so kind and willingly to help. They helped us with all the logistics to get back to the airport, cooked delicious food, were very proactive and overall super professional and kind.

Where do I start..Do not let the pictures deceive you.It seems that the owner doesnt really care about this place. It has 3 cabanas but the state of them is appalling. The room was basic and the bedsheet and pillowcases were stained. I reserved two double beds and only got a double and a single. They didnt even bother to make the single bed up. Stained bedsheets again and no pillowcases. The outdoor shower was covered dead leaves and flowers and the outdoor had not been cleaned.The towels were so filthy, I wouldnt dry a clean dog with it. The hotel is situated on a nice part of the Playa de Palomino but the sunbed only two with half eaten covers. The eating area is so old and dirty. To top it off, after having an unpleasant night sleep as the bed was so uncomfortable. I walked to sit on the beach the next morning and there was a guest couple on the beach with the guy pleasuring his naked lady friend on the beach and filming it as well. I had booked for 8 nights and only stayed for 1. I do not know why this hotel is on booking.com. I wasted one night of my in this place.

Cabanas las estrellas is located in a place I had only seen in movies before! There is nothing better than waking up to the sounds of the ocean and opening the door of the hut to some of the most incredible views. The staff is also incredibly helpful. The huts have a pretty rustic touch and they blend in nicely with the environment. Biosecurity measures were respected in the property and Palomino is a great place to visit, get away from it all but still be safe as the beach is very big and keeping your distance is very easy. I would visit the las estellas again!

Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Gorgeous view of the beach, far from the other busy hostels and hotels closer to Palomino.

Payment process could be better. They should try to accept credit card use. I don't like carrying large wads of money around. It makes us targets for thieves.
