Well located hotel with a common kitchen and a small terrace. We stayed in a family room (5 single beds). Of course it is not huge but it was ok for a night. Bathroom was fine. Facilities were clean and welcoming.

The room windows are just on the street so it is rather noisy. The kitchen is small so it is one group/family at a time for cooking or eating. No black out curtains.

The Lava Guesthouse was awesome. The rooms were quiet, quaint, and cozy and we really appreciated that there were two bathrooms upstairs both equipped with showers. This allowed it to feel less trafficked. We also really liked how many fresh towels there were in the bathroom. It was in the best location you could ask for as it was next to one of the only 3 restaurants on the island. Our host was super accommodating and responded quickly to our questions. We were also given ample amount of information and quick tips that encouraged us to enjoy the island to our fullest! The bedding was fluffy and the rooms were nice and warm. We loved the cozy cottage feel of the slanted ceiling and the spiral staircase. We also loved that the rainbow road was right outside the front door! My only suggestions to add to the initial information message would be: 1. Breakfast bakery by the harbor called Vigtin (it’s delicious, and open at 7am) and that the parking along the side of the rainbow street is not limited to 30 min parking as stated, overnight.

This is minor, but we wished there were more spaces to hang our wet towels as we used the hooks for our coats.

Excellent choice for affordable accommodation in the heart of Heimaey, right next to the ferry and a host of amenities, with easy access to the hills and coast. Extremely clean, very handy kitchen and useful Netflix access for rainy days too.

We booked a twin room that was pretty cosy for the two of us. No problem if the weather’s good and you’re out all day. But potentially a little claustrophobic if you’re stuck in for a long time. Not a criticism - I’d just recommend booking a triple or family room!
