We loved everything about the house. Initially I was concerned that we were not staying in the actual hotel but in a separate location but once we stepped inside it was perfect - super comfortable and warm, an amazing private onsen, a big comfortable and well equipped kitchen/diner with great views of the river and bridge. We could walk everywhere and were surrounded by historical areas. It was safe, super clean and we even loved the tatami room and the Japanese style beds in the second bedroom. There were so many lovely touches- beautiful robes, slippers, coffee, quality shampoos/conditioners etc. Heavenly.

Location - fantastic, easy walking to lots of lovely old buildings, cafes and restaurants. 100m from a little omikaze Staff - very welcoming, warm and helpful. They helped us secure dinner restaurants. Room - very comfortable and lovely view out the window of the falling snow. Comfy beds, comfy pillow and nice shower room. Facilities - warm relaxing lounge with free tea, coffee and games. For 1000 yen order the sparkling sake! Use the private bath- look out the window and have a nice relaxing soak after 20k steps exploring Takayama.

Only drawback was no elevator but honestly not a problem and the staff helped us with our luggage up the short flight of stairs. Don’t let this put you off staying in this lovely property.

Authentic property with modernized rooms. The tea lounge and garden was very zen and easy to relax in. Our room was upgraded with modern beds and amenities, but felt slightly cramped due to a smaller window. Each room is different. The staff was very friendly and helped us make several reservations for restaurants, which was extremely helpful considering our non existing Japanese.

No elevator so if you end up on the 2nd floor, you have to handle your luggage. Front desk will help best they can but there is usually only 1 person.

Breakfast was very wholesome and tasty. Panini with a soup—very nice combination.

We stayed in the beautiful self-contained hanare (villa) which is right on the river and central to everything. It is stunningly beautiful. Huge cypress bath fits the whole family! Nothing not to like but could be improved with some cleaning cloths/products in the kitchen. Somewhere to hang clothing to dry. A more comfortable seating on the balcony - images showed a couch but was just two stools.

Wonderful staff! Private onsens! Great selection of teas and coffee as well as option to have quality breakfast on-site, just need to book night prior.

No AC, we like to sleep in a cool room.

NOTHING REALLY... THE STAFF DOESNT SPEAK ENGLISH AT ALL! THE PRICE OF THE ROOM COMPARED TO OTHER PROPERTIES IS OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE! THE HOTEL DOES NOT HAVE A LIFT THAT WE PRACTICALLY HAD TO CARRY UP TO OUR FLOOR. I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PRICE OF THE ROOM, THANK GOD IT WAS JUST ONE NIGHT. NEVER AGAIN FOR SURE.

LACK OF ENGLISH SPEAKING STAFF, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, NO LIFT, NO DECENT BREAKFAST OPTION, WHAT ELSE OH THE MAN MADE ONSEN HAS A FEE TO USE IT DESPITE THE SUPER EXPENSIVE ROOM, SUCH A JOKE!

The staffs over there were exceedingly nice and helpful, they helped me to recover the thing I left on the train. Also, everything is in pleasant walking distance.

Well located to main sites, extremely friendly and helpful staff, large, modern, clean rooms. This boutique hotel has only a limited number of rooms. It's an excellent alternative to the standardised chain hotel product.

This hotel was superb. It was beautifully decorated and the rooms were designed well with a modern take on Japanese traditional. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We used one of the two spas and it was very well equipped and relaxing.

We only had two nights. We could have stayed for longer at this hotel.

The service was great! The staff were friendly, we had a mild language barrier but they were very patient and with a little google translate all problems were solved! We stayed in the private suite and the space was perfect for our group! Very clean and spacious, stocked kitchen, great that there was laundry as well! We loved our stay and wish we stayed longer!!

we stayed in the Hanare, the separate house in the old town area. it was absolutely beautiful - tastefully done up, perfect for a family, fully Japanese-feeling. highly recommend.

- on the ground floor you could hear noises from the floor above. Not a deal-breaker.

The place was lovely but the staff makes so much noise stomping around, I could hear it through the walls. It was difficult to sleep and enjoy the amenities.

The hotel at first seemed great. Service was great, location good and the design and architecture of the hotel was fantastic as well. We were very happy we decided to stay here. That changed soon...

Shortly after checking in we discovered a couple small centipede like insects on our bed. It didn't seem a big deal at first but then they appeared all over our room and found over a dozen. Notifying the front desk they offered to change our room which we eventually decided to do... Another one of the insects was found in the lobby and also another in the bathroom of our new room. It was in a separate building to the original of our first room so it seemed like they were throughout the hotel. We ended up staying the two nights in somewhat paranoid fashion. There was no offer to compensate us for the trouble or upgrade our room. The second room perhaps had a higher cost attached to it as it had two beds but we had preferred our first room with a king sized bed. If it weren't for this disappointing turn of events we would have rated the hotel very highly.

Like the attention to details and the quality. Good coffee and tea at the common area. Well designed rooms for comfort and convenience. Staff are very helpful and friendly too!

Excellent location, walking distance from the JR station and Takayama Old Town. The hotel is beautiful and with the friendliest staff we’ve encountered in Japan. There is a complimentary tea and coffee bar on the ground floor with a selection of green tea. The room was well appointed and we loved the traditional timber bath room. The bath was appreciated with a good soak after so much walking! Living room area (with coffee table and TV) was a bonus. We had a gorgeous view of the internal courtyard garden from our room. The beds were generous and comfortable, with 2 pillows each. The hotel was able to hold our luggage on our final morning so we could visit the local morning markets, a short walk away.

excellent service, the staff recommended restaurant options. and booked us a taxi when the weather wasn’t great. The lounge are has complimentary refreshments and the coffee was great! We spent our downtime here rather than in our room. the Onsen that you book and use privately was lovely and relaxing after a long day walking and sightseeing.

This is our 4th hotel on a long trip through Japan, and it was the smallest room we have had. Luckily we didn’t had our large suitcases with us, only backpacks with what we needed for a short two night stay. we had our suitcases transferred onto our next hotel from our previous. If we had them with us, it would have been extremely cramped. the raised bed area only has a small lip of timber between mattress and edge to the floor, and a very narrow area between that and the wall, and one of us had a fall on the first day due to it…. we had to be very careful from then on.

The Villa was amazing, perfect amount of space for a family trip- the bath and facilities were outstanding. we booked for one night and ended up staying for as long as time would allow.
