I didn’t care for the stains on the sheets. Not sure if old or new. I wouldn’t have let my dog sleep on the bed. The bathroom was horrendous. Dirt and hair in the corners of the floor. And mold growing in the tub. They could not afford a toilet paper holder. This situation was for the first and the second room I looked at. And from the looks of people moving in or out with all their worldly belongings. I think this location doubled as a homeless shelter. The hotel nor Expedia would refund my money. I will never use Expedia again. And Along with writing reviews everywhere I can, I will be reaching out to the parent company of HoJo’s.

The Office was terrible.The staff needs to speak better english!They hardly canAnd l dont think they care to.The free breakfast was horrir!Rancid juice.old old a month old yogarts n breakfast bars!NASTY area..n nasty trash can inside.But my room was very nice!It was very clean.The maid service was very good!I would stay again.Very close to my Navy sons house.

The place smell terrible, the room looks dirty, the elevator is disgusting and the stairs worse.

Rooms were clean but could have been cleaner around sink faucet where some mold had started to grow. The outside trash piled up for a few days before anyone cleaned it. The beds were comfortable and linens clean. Overall was a good experience.

Horrible! Dirty room with dirty sheets, trash overflowing in the hallways, elevator has burn marks on it! When asked to be checked out early and charges reversed for dirty room was refused! DO NOT RECOMMEND

Planned a stay here for three nights and it was going to be a heafty bit of money (they dont allow the amount of money to be shown on a review). Looks nice and worth it for the time with it being a holiday weekend. When we got here it was far different then the pictures show. The hotel is raggedy and has people on the outside that I didnt feel safe around nor would me and my wife risk our babys life to stay here. So i payed the amount to cancel my stay which is a days worth of the room, I will never stay here. False advertisement

The staff in the office were respectful and nice. However, the bathroom in the hotel room was very dirty, the towels provided had hair in them from previous guests I assume, there were dead roaches outside the room on the balcony leading to elevator, our bed sheets were never changed and we stayed there for 4 nights, floors were never swept for four days and we were on the beach and it was sandy. Overall, cleanliness was non existent.

I enjoyed my stay there for ECSC weekend. It was the most affordable of the Virginia Beach oceanfront hotels that I would find for that weekend. The location and the hotel’s amenities were good.

I’ve included photos showing how terrible the hotel was. AC did not work the whole time that we had to buy a fan from Walmart so we can stay cool towels that were left in the room folded smelt. The floors were so dirty. We had to walk around with socks at the end of the trip I had to throw away that’s how dirty floor was Flies coming out of the drain no hot water and it would turn cold instantly so he had to take like a two second shower parking is extremely tight. A lot of big trucks. Lotta big SUVs nearly zero parking that a couple times we had to park and pay for a 24 hour meter because it was no parking or if there was parking the vehicles that were there didn’t know how to park When you go to the lobby or registration building or whatever they called that and when I complain, the guy at the front desk just shook his head side side said oh so sorry and that’s it and just looked at me with a blank face. Good luck if you book here be careful.

Ok so this is not a luxury resort but it is a decent hotel across the street from the beach. The parking lot is tight but we were able to find a spot wach time we left and came back. The elevator is tiny and slow but they did have an elevator. The pool closed at 9pm but it looked clean and you didn't hear kids yelling after 9. The rooms have been updates recently (fresh paint and flooring) and were actually cute. They are high turnober rooms so there was some gunk in the corners. We never heard a peep from our neighbors! Those walls are thick! They are a bit stingy with the towels. Gave us 2 bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths for 3 people. I had to argue a bit to get 3 more towels but they relented and hooked us up lol. The staff were nice everu time I talked to them. There is a restaurant right next door and a sensations. Its close to everything. We walked to the speed boat dolphin tour docks. Plenty of food, entertainment, and shopping nearby. I'd stay here again!

Lipstick on a pig. No washcloths, dirty sheets, still wet towels with stains on them. The entire Place smelled like lacquer paint. The price was way too much for what I received. The reviews on hotels.com are great but Google reviews is only 1.5 out of five stars. Will be definitely trying to get some money back for this day. Absolute garbage

The next door neighbors were fist fighting all night. Contacts front desk just to be told they tried to tell them to stop but they won’t. This place is disgusting. Pubic hair everywhere. Blood stains on the sheets. The adjacent door to the next room didn’t lock so we had to put a chair under it. For the money we paid we should be refunded partially this was the absolute worst experience I have ever had anywhere in the world. I felt unsafe and dirty

The room was basic. Quality of linens and overall aesthetics were minimal. The pool was only fairly maintained.

I booked this Hoter as part of family trip and my Sister and Niece stayed there. It was clean comfortably nice also view of Ocean from a block back inside room. AC was good and the Manager was friendly and polite. It is near nice Restaurants and Breakfast shop next door Many other shops in area 1 block from board walk easy to get beach stuff and walk over.

I liked that the hotel was by the beach, I did not like that my room wasn’t inspected before I checked in. Room had missing tile on wall in the bathroom which had black mold, bath tub didn’t drain properly and also a/c didn’t work in my first room. I had requested a late check out and at first the front desk agent declined it to me then when I showed I can do it online they let me pay for it in cash. Rooms need to be remolded & scenery wasn’t very pleasant was only here to visit family would not stay here again.

We stayed at the hotel from 8/11/24 to 8/14/24. it was one of the best budget hotels at Virginia Beach ocean front area. It was inexpensive-- won't crush your wallet, offers free breakfast and short walk to the beach. I don't know where the bad reviews were coming from.... In my opinion, you got what you pay for. Howard Johnson is a simple place that won't break the bank. If you are willing to pay more and have better services... Double Tree is located right across the street from the hotel. 1. Room was updated. Even though the renovation work was not the best. It was adequate. 2. The room was pretty clean. Room was spacious. Beds were comfortable. Our only complaint was no place to hand clothes or wet towels. 3. The hotel offered free breakfast which included coffee, yogurt, orange juices, apple juices, muffins and cinnamon rolls. We really appreciated the free breakfast. Nowadays there was hardly any budget hotels that offered free breakfast. 4. This hotel had great customer service. The employees were very helpful and attentive. 5. The only issue we found for the hotel was --the ice machine area that located at the first floor was dark and needed some cleaning. 6. A short walk to the beach. 7. Parking was fine. Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

Nothing liked about the propery it self. Floors, wall and the elevator were filty! Rooms had hair leying around and the counters, telefone and AC grill were disgusting! The sheets and pillow cases were ok but the towells and bathroom shower courtines had stains and were dingy.

After reading some of the other reviews, I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Many of the reviews said negative things but I found the hotel to be excellent for the price. The location was convenient. The beach was just across the street. The parking lot was a little small but we had no problem finding a spot. The elevator was a little rickety but I just took the stairs. The staff was super friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

The pictures on line are definitely deceiving! The mattress pad was stained really BAD (I felt the need to check for bedbugs). The baseboards were very dusty/dirty. Only had 1 chair in room. The bathroom door was broken…cracked and no latch, the toilet clogged TWICE, the bathtub drain (had no stopper) had so much hair in it… We took our bikes ….if there was a bike rack, we could have locked them but had to load them in small elevator each time ☹️

Didn’t like nothing at all. Linen was dirty complained and nothing was done about it. They didn’t even apologize.

Parking lot so small, housekeeping only changed linen once and I stayed 3 days no breakfast no chairs at the pool false advertising about the rooftop went up there and it’s nothing up there

Looked nothing like the photo on hotels.com . You can hear both rooms beside you. The place is a little outdated. The only good thing is, its just across the street from the beach

No breakfast, electrical sockets were dangling out of wall, mattresses very dirty, room/floors/walls dirty, shower curtain had mold, coffee maker broken, loud noises all night, door lock didn’t lock.

The room was clean and despite not being oceanfront, the location the hotel was very convenient! There isn’t a pool on the roof as depicted, but other than that. We enjoyed our stay!
