Everything was amazing - beautiful bungalow in the jungle on the beach, crashing waves, great food and service.

I had a wonderful 2 night stay at The Hummingbird. I stayed in one of the bungalows, which was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Betsy and Gary were very welcoming and made sure all my needs were met and exceeded. They arranged all my transportation as well as a boat tour around the islands. They were also very accommodating to my vegetarian diet at the restaurant. The food was delicious as were the drinks! I only wish I had stayed longer! Wonderful trip!

Awesome. Incredible hosts and staff. Originally we were going to stay 5 days and move on but decided to stay another 5. We woke each morning to howler monkeys and wild parrots greeting the day. Food is great and the service friendly and attentive. We will be coming back. Place is off the grid but you really couldn’t tell other than no AC but the rooms have fans and we had no problem sleeping. Highly recommend Hummingbird

The fact that this review is being written that far after our stay should tell you all you need to know about this stunning property and location. The memories and experience will last a lifetime. And don't let the logistics of getting there stand in your way. The trip is soooooo worth it! Gary and Betsy are the best hosts my wife and I have ever experienced and are there to accommodate the guests with anything they could ever need. The property and surrounding garden is its own little paradise. And the beach is STEPS away! Just make the trip and enjoy.

The Hummingbird was by far the best place that we have ever been been to. The accommodations were fantastic! The hosts, Gary and Betsy, took care of everything for us during our stay. The food was out of this world! Highest recommendation!

The food for breakfast and dinner was a delicious high standard, and whilst ‘they don’t do lunch’, the bar snacks are more than big and tasty enough to keep you going in the day.The 4 villas at the Hummingbird are equally charming, with doors that open fully bringing the forest and beach into your room, and give you a great way to spot the many species all around (We saw sloths, monkeys, frogs, lizards, an agouti, hummingbirds, and a turtle whilst in the grounds or just outside on Playa Bluff!)

Hummingbird isn't for everyone. It's off-grid and out-of-the-way. But it's also out-of-this-world. The essential message is that Hummingbird is a wonderful, intimate place to unwind, commune with sloths (real ones), and fall sleep to the symphony of crashing waves. Highly recommended.

Betsy and Gary take special care with all their guests from the moment you arrive to to moment you depart. Cooked to order breakfasts, tons of birds, butterflys and nature to watch, super comfy rooms, ocean facing bar are just a few of the special things about this Inn. Worth the drive down the beach road for this experience!

If you want some days or weeks to relax, enjoy being in the nature and have no problems with being on the quieter Part of the island(s) this is the perfect spot. My wife and I spend three restful days at the Hummingbird following our wedding that was busy and filled with activities for family and friends. While the weather didn't cooperate until the last day, we couldn't have asked for better stay. The room was nicely appointed with excellent bedding and towels, including separate towels for beach and pool use. The shower and vanity areas were nicely appointed with modern fixtures. The semi-private balcony was a perfect place to relax during the day. The breakfast was presented as a menu fixe in the morning, but for our three days it was nicely varied and always delicious. Fresh fruit, french press coffee, fresh juice and a nice main. The dinner menu was varied enough to keep things interesting and the quality was excellent, with 4-5 seasonal options for starters, mains and dessert along with a daily special. For our short stay it was just right. For lunch we wandered up the road to a local place that had good pizza and assorted sandwiches and pasta that was casual and tasty. The owners Gary and Betsy, do their best to make sure you're comfortable and content and are excellent to guiding you for however much or little activity is on your agenda. Gary also has a great eye for the local wildlife and was always pointing out birds and critters living in the area. A wonderful stay. Better for adults seeking a respite that those go go go types needing or wanting constant stimulation.

It is hard to imagine guests not thoroughly enjoying a relaxing stay at the Hummingbird in Boca del Toro. For us, spending three weeks in Panama, this was our best accommodation throughout the country. Hosts Betsy and Gary (a married couple who hail from the US and UK, respectively) have created a beautiful, peaceful, clean, eco-friendly, satisfying haven along Boca’s eastern shore and exude genuine warmth and hospitality. With just six spacious rooms (spread across three different bungalows), things are cozy and personal. The onsite restaurant/bar has a delicious selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts, many accented with fruits grown on site. The little bananas were in season in January and delicious. Solar energy (and battery storage) provide responsible energy 24/7. The Wi-Fi was reliable and strong. Your fridge is provided with filtered, ice cold water daily. The onsite pool is very, very clean and almost a pet project of Gary’s. Plenty of lounge chairs and hammocks allow one to pass the day away peacefully and in comfort. There are three things to know, in case these are important to you: the location may be a bit isolated for some (shuttles and cabs can get you to town); no lunch is served on site but options are available nearby; the beach has strong rip currents which can make swimming hazardous (warning signs are posted). But guess what. There are plenty of hummingbirds around the property amidst natural flora and plants. Enjoy your stay!

Our three night stay at the Hummingbird couldnt have been better. Wed briefly spoken to Gary prior to our arrival and despite arriving a few hours before check in, he sent a car to pick us up from Bocas and kindly got the room ready for us speedily, which was appreciated after an overnight bus from Panama City. Gary and Betsy are excellent hosts - and truly go out their way to make sure you have the best stay possible, fromrecommendations on the local area, to booking you on trips, and even kindly offered us use of their laptop to book flights for later on our trip.The hotel is set in stunning grounds, right off Playa Bluff (unfortunately you cant swim from the shore most of the year round but it makes for a beautiful walk). The hotel is some way out of Bocas, so budget for a few taxis (c $15-20 each way) or theres a local bus service we used which was very reliable and much cheaper. Theres a restaurant on site which is genuinely excellent - we had the best food in Bocas here, and ended up dining there every night, which isnt something we normally do. The rooms are beautifully furnished, with lovely balconies to relax on and theres a decent sized pool area with plenty of hammocks to lounge around on too. Finally, Gary is an excellent wildlife spotter, and showed us sloths and poison dart frogs all in the grounds. All in all, a fantastic place - just book in now, you dont need to look anywhere else.

what can I say.... not only the staff which has a very friendly family environment, the amazing beaches, the wildlife, the nature, the actual accommodation but also the food out of this world with new specials and changes due to the products bought that day... top points on all levels. Definitely returning

Beautiful, peaceful setting. We loved every minute there. Not close to town, but the beaches are beautiful and most of time we had the beach all to ourselves. The restaurant is excellent and the breakfasts were amazing.

The food, service and facilities were amazing. My bf and I are big surfers and were in paradise right on the beach!
