We stayed in room 25, it was a clean room in good condition, the rooms are as you would expect an old building to be.. its never going to be a premier inn at that price range!!We had tea and it was good food and drink(for the price)Major Downside however! The university is just up the road and on Thursday night it was karaoke, and Im not exaggerating when I say it was rammed full of students dancing on the tables where people was eating food hours earlier. This wasnt to bad for us as we are a young couple and was drinking in the bar.. but had we gone to bed early, Id have been pissed off as its easily heard from the room.

I read all the bad reviews and was a little concerned about what we would be turning up to. But, we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, the decor was dated, but the pub is 100 years old. The room was small but not a problem for a couple of nights stay, the bed was very clean and comfy. The shower was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again for a weekend break. Thanks for a nice stay.

Filthy dirty. Needs complete restoration. Stairs looked they’d never been hoovered. All paint was dirty and grimy. All the chairs in room and bar were badly stained. Bar smelt of dirty school fat. Was advertised as including breakfast. Not the case. But tbh not sorry about that, i couldn’t have eaten there. Room cleaning was non existent. Rating 0 out of 10

I arrived about 4.30 to stay the night on my own in my room. There was no TV and when I went to enquire about breakfast times I was informed that they didnt do breakfast.

Awful the best part of that whole experience was leaving in the morning after next to no sleep awful place will never return to that place !

I have stayed here several times, i really like the relaxed atmosphere, quick check in, lovely comfy bed. clean bathroom, tv and wifi great, great helpful staff. Will definatly be back.

The way I was treated by staff, told to get get my own brewing stuff from Tesco was shocking, also tried to book a taxi to get to the train station only to be told that the pub is blacklisted by every taxi company in Chester and to find my own! Shocking stay

First impressions are bad at the check in with peeling Paint above reception, the same once in the room, peeling Paint in the bathroom, carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for s while, on checking out there wasn't any staff! Had to depart so pushed the key under the door. Be warned!

quick checkin, friendly staff, good room,nice food, great to have a drink in the beer garden, overall we had a great stay, would come back again.

I initially booked the room due to location to attending Chester Races, this is the only positive feedback I can unfortunately give The hotel is part off a pub, which on entrance had the unique smell off a brewery stale & musty The hotel room was extremely outdated & very tired & worn Small bathroom facilities, although was clean We were meant to stay 2 nights, but decided to stay only the 1st night due to highly disappointed Felt the charge for 2 nights £170.00 no breakfast, although wouldn't have eaten there was overpriced compared to other places we have stayed in that have been fab Would not recommend at all

Very poor welcome. Girl on reception was on computer when we arrived. She said she was having problems with the system so can we wait. 10/15 mins later was asked to sign for room given key and told depature was 10am and we dont do breakfast. Room very small and cramped. 2 large stains on ceiling, broken floor tile as you enter the bathroom, large hole under the shower. Very dirty. The only good was that the bed was comfortable .and clean. Dirty tables in food area left. Very slow service at the bar. Staff need customer service training. On booking out man was on phone opened hatch at reception and took key off me without speaking. I know we all have different opinions but how can a place be reviewed so differently. 1* - 5*. Definate 1* and thats generous. Will not be staying again.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times over the last 5 years ,but now the rooms are looking very tired and in need of refurb are shower was really bad.

I enjoyed my stay. Only a couple of issues was the signal on the telly was poor and kept going of and coming back on , and there was hairs in the bath tub so it put me of having a showerp

Very nice hotel , although room we had was very small and noisy,bar was good food was good and cheap.

Very basic and dated. Shower cubicle had black mould. No hotel receptionist between 8pm - 10am. Also noisy as rooms are directly over pub.

if you want a bed for the night on the cheap then ok

Condition of the room was filthy, carpets were dirty, mould in bathroom, no plug in sink, curtains were hanging off, room was in need of a good clean and re decorate - the cost of 140 for two nights you would expect at least a clean room even if it was basic, the pub played loud thumping music late at night, it was advertised as having on your website and having newly refurbished rooms this was completely untrue, very disappointed
