Been staying here since 2015 and its gone downhill, never the same after COVID. Clean enough but just a room with a key lock outside the door, nothing else. Even a few months ago there was breakfast and reception during the day but this stay there was nothing. No reception at check-in or someone there overnight, no bar or breakfast. Front door is left open so anyone could walk in and you let your self into your room with a key code to the key lock outside your door. Not ideal for some single travelers and certainly no deterrent on-site for noisy people staying there. I assume the front door is locked at some point in the evening. I didn't like the lack of any kind of security or personal touch and will look elsewhere next time I visit Taunton. On the plus side there are plenty of dinner and breakfast options nearby.

I was down for the cricket and literally just needed a room for the night. I wasn't bothered about needing a hotel with a bar, or a restaurant, or served breakfast in the morning. In that respect, it did the job.

On a day of zero-degree temperatures, our room had no central heating and the entire hotel was unheated. We were told every room had just one portable electric heater...and that "was enough". After 45 minutes of trying to get the room warm, we told the front desk (the only member of staff on site) it was still not warm enough. Rather grudgingly, the he passed my wife one extra heater (half the size of the one in the room) which she had to carry up 4 flights of stairs herself. We went out for dinner (hoping to get warm) and on returning to the room at 8pm, the room was still only just above 15 degrees centigrade. The beds had a thin duvet on them. Having a serious illness and knowing it would be too cold to sleep, we tried to contact the front desk to get some extra blankets but there was no-one available and I think there was probably no member of staff on site at all. The room had been poorly cleaned and prepared (water still in the kettle, a wet bath mat left on the floor) and a lack of quality was evident everywhere (cheap, astringent soap, a barely warm shower with weak pressure, cheap bedding). That anyone can be charged nearly £100 for this experience on a Tuesday night in December, is extraordinary and we will be seeking a full or partial refund. Please avoid until there is evidence of drastic improvements.

Located just a 5 min walk from town centre. Old building with some charm. Very clean and tidy. Car park next to hotel. Can be noisy as location by a busy road. Our fan was broken, no spare !!!! so had to have windows open. Thank goodness for tear plugs !! Bathroom ok, a little aged , towels ok cleanish !

The stay wasn't great, it started with a 15 minute wait for someone to come to reception to check me in only for them to barely apologise for the wait. This was after I had called numerous times, rang the bell (as advised), and even sent a message on hotels.com. Furthermore, I had time to look at which room I was assigned and effectively check myself in before someone came to reception. I was told about breakfast but there was 0 detail provided about price/time/what was provided without asking clarifying questions. I'm glad I didn't go for the breakfast as I never saw anyone in the breakfast area & when I did, they were waiting for the breakfast to be laid out (this was after breakfast was meant to have started). The hot water started to run out mid shower & the bed was extremely soft. The room was also far too warm with only windows to let the hot air out. However, once the curtains were shut, it blocked all the fresh air from coming in. Honestly, go for another hotel as it's really not worth the money

The hotel is very clean, comfortable and in a great location for the town centre. Staff are always very helpful and professional, stayed many times and always excellent.

Convenient close to town

I have all ways enjoyed staying there , The early end to check in , is a problem. The reception agreed to leave a key in a discrete location. They have started chargeing for breakfast, which came as a surprise, so i got a meal deal from Tesco's instead. I all ways ask for a printd receipt on leaving to make sure all room charges have been cleared .

The hotel is located at the high street and a supermarket is just at the opposite. It is very convenience. The hotel interior is quite old and has traffic noise at night.

It was cold , the heating was switched on in the morning only after a phone call after 7 am--temperature overnight was 5 degrees! No hot water to shower---barely luke warm. No receptionist on site until 8 am. Called emergency no to request switching on heating which was done. However, subsequent calls to report lack of hot water went unanswered. Reported lack of hot water to receptionist but he did not seem to be interested in resolving the issue---by then it was time for me to leave.

Good location i have stayed her a couple of times as easy for town centre but disappointed the room was cold on arrival and a very small room .lucky it was one night .The receptionist was very lovely though and did her up most to make us comfortable. THE ROOM WAS VERY TIRED.As a silver member of hotel's. Com very disappointed. DISCOUNTED services for a discounted experience.

Was a good looking establishment, was clean and tidy. Didn’t eat but had the facility. Unfortunately the bed was far too soft for my liking. But very helpful staff on duty during my stay.

The property was in a great location old but nice. A lot of stairs so not so good for my elderly mother.

we needed to attend the funeral of My wife's Sister and the comfort and care we received was just the help we needed

One night stay for business. Very clean and comfortable, soft beds. Very helpful when I fell ill during my stay.

Guy on the front desk wasn't helpful, in fact grumpy, felt like someone has forced him to do his job. Grumpy git!!!

Hotel was very nice, as was the receptionist and the barman. However, the breakfast experience was steaight from Fawlty Towers with most guests getting a poor service. No breakfast menu apart from a choice of eggs which were nice, but other items weren't provided but not explained. S simple menu would have made a huge difference

Best not to bother if you appreciate good service.

The room was large with a comfortable sofa and a satisfactory bed. Clean and in easy walking distance from town centre. It may have been dated but fitted with the characrer of the house. The breakfast was excellent.

Good but unfortunately breakfast was disappointing. The young girl was disinterested and forgetful. Poached eggs were overcooked. No 24 hour desk / reception

Considering how much I was paying I was not really satisfied: the room was decidedly cramped (and that was with one person in a double room), the kettle lead was not long enough to reach any nearby power point; and I'm pretty sure there were no radio stations available on the TV

Really lovely one night stay en route to Devon. Had a very good night sleep after a straight forward check in by a lovely friendly young lady. Lovely breakfast, perfect for us to enjoy the day before evening meal. Thank you to the lovely team there

Decor slightly strange but that’s ok. We would stay again. Hopefully when we can use restaurant and bar to make it even better.

The staff is very friendly, the bedrooms are really beautiful ans comfortable.

When booking, this advertised cooked breakfast and food available in the evening. The breakfast was toast and cereal and when we asked about evening meals we were told if we were unable to get anything else they would see what they could find! The staff were not very friendly or helpful and were walking around not wearing face masks inside the building. There was no hot water in the evening and no apology for this.I was very glad we only had one night booked.
