Great location with a short walk to the downtown area and parking on site. Food trucks set up in the back with affordable and easy meal options as well as a beer truck! Tables and couches for lounging.
Only one bathroom upstairs

The property is fairly close to the downtown, which was great. They have food trucks right out in their backyard, which was very convenient as well. The food at these trucks is amazing, and a lot of people from outside come to hang out in the space so its pretty lively.
The hostel is not very clean, there was dirty linen on the bed next to me, and it remained there for all the three days that I stayed there. They dont have enough bathrooms, and sometime you are waiting for as long as 20 mins to gain access to one. The showers are unclean. The hostel staff didnt bother to tell me about the facilities I could use at the hostel, like breakfast, washing machines or access to Sauna, which I only discovered on my way out. Car parking is extremely limited. They have no idea about the activities you could do around, and most of the staff just seemed spaced out. The only guy who seemed to have any idea, was a the one that no longer worked there! Also the events out in the backyard, can go on till late night with loud music, which again when asked the staff how long it would go on for, had no idea. The lockers are small and at best can fit a back pack. The property has so much potential, that it was sad to witness this.

Friendly, laid-back staff, good live music
Communal areas could be cleaner, need more plugs in the rooms

It's ok. 😀
A second bathroom in the unit would be nice.
One of our bunk beds were a bit shaky and the other one was really squeaky.

location is great, the owners make extra effort to make this a community hostel.
I knew going in that it was going to be a hostel experience but to be honest, it felt more like staying at a bunch of roommate’s house. I would have been fine with it if it were not as expensive as a hotel and if there was more “warnings” about it in the description. I was at bend 3 days to hike and enjoy nature, and coming to sleep in a very small, noisy hostel wasn’t what I expected… amenities are old, the clients (owners? I couldn’t tell) all knew each other and I felt like I was crashing someone’s party every night, the common kitchen and bathrooms weren’t always clean, the “free” breakfast is toasts and a few DYI eggs in a dirty fridge. etc.
I admire what the group of owners are trying to do and I’m sure it works for some people. but I think they should either get better on the cleaning and renewing some appliances to make the 100$ a night worth it, or make it cheaper and be clear about the hostel’s vibe.

Outdoor facilities made this worth the stay in the summer!
Kitchen wasn't very clean and the fridge was pretty dirty.

Such a nice atmosphere. More than a hostel, it’s a nice community of returning travelers. Location is also amazing.

Room, bathrooms and public spaces were awesome. Very well furnished and with attention to details.
Pots and pans were really old.

We enjoyed our stay! The kids had fun in the yard and the evenings with live music was real nice. It is a cozy hostel and felt very safe and social. The beertoken is a nice welcoming touch and the breakfast items in the kitchen was generous.
The airquality in the room was bad and the carpet smelled of dust and smoking. It triggered some allergies and headaches with some of us. I understand that it comes with the territory of many guests and an old historic house, so not a dealbreaker!

This is a very different type of place to stay on booking, com, so it's hard to compare to other hotels. This is a hostel in downtown bend and of a slightly upscale hostel quality. So if you look at the negative side, the comfort side (bed quality, shared bathroom, etc.) is what you would expect from a hostel, but you are paying hotel prices.
So why stay, here?
Because you are paying for the experience. Where else do you get a beer token at check-in? Hostels breed conversation and during our stay, we met two retirees from Arkansas touring the West Coast. a hiker from Australia and a guy from Wisconsin who had been traveling for 3 years. We were there for a Grateful Dead tribute band and Karaoke night all in the hostel backyard. A backyard that has a beer truck and a Mexican food truck no less.
If you want to stay at the DoubleTree, you probably should not stay here as a substitute, but if you want an adventure, this is your place.

Great location, friendly staff and fellow travellers, great live music out back.
I'm getting too old for upper bunks.

great location, neat property with the beer and food cart
bed was very loud, and thin. sloped in towards the middle. lighting in the room was not very adequate. felt a little slapped together. some staff were not very friendly and openly discussing previous drug use and personal problems in the kitchen around guests. the kitchens were both fairly dirty, especially the fridges that didn’t seem to be cleaned weekly like the sign said

Really enjoyed the outdoor entertainment area.
Rooms were cleaned, but they need to be a little more thorough.

I can’t say much about it I liked. maybe the book shelves and book selections.
the sauna and laundry that were advertised were out of service, it was super dirty, the fridge full of old food, sink full of dirty dishes. the beds were terribly uncomfortable and rooms felt dirty and stained. bathrooms weren’t that gross I guess. it was really loud until 2am past the 11pm loud curfew and the host was drunk when I got there at 10pm even though the host stand closed at 11pm. ONE bunk bed in a dorm room was $60 which is insane for this type of hostel. in Europe or nyc or anywhere else it would have been $20-$30. vibe was okay and some people were nice the next day but felt unsafe as a woman there. didn’t sleep more than 3 hours. no quiet areas at all to take a phone call or read and no live music as advertised probably because it was raining.

Excellent location, walk to central downtown area. Although it's an old building, it is nicely decorated with good facilities. Great for solo traveler. I particularly like the backyard with food cart, Beer cart (a free beer too). The staff there is very friendly. Breakfast is self-served with clear labelling of ingredients. I would highly recommend this place. Oh, BTW, they also have free parking at the back, a bonus for me
Nothing to note

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed in! It is an excellent location in Downtown Bend and the facilities are incredible, especially the outdoor spaces and the brewery. The public spaces are really comfortable and the bed was nice too.
My primary issue with this hostel was that there was not a large amount of price gradation- it would be great to have options for smaller, cheaper rooms, we ended up having to stay two people in a six person room for a high-ish price. Also the sauna was sadly not working!

I appreciated the casual and community driven atmosphere. The live events such as karaoke and music performances made filling time on nights off a breeze not to mention the quick walk downtown. Amenities such as food trucks, beer purveyor, small book exchange and streaming services are highly appreciated. Best stay between here and Texas.
Some staff very judgmental of guests and were not shy about voicing their opinions of patrons. That being said I understand an extra layer of caution and discretion must be considered for this more intimate type of lodging than say a more commonplace hotel/motel. I will certainly stay again and support bunk and brew anyway I can though for other travelers this aspect should be kept in mind if you're uncomfortable with a more communal, less private style of lodging.

Loved the closeness to downtown and the commodities on-site! Great hostel to stay at, people are very friendly. Strict with rules, kicked out another room in the house for smoking inside. Really clean and comfy, place is very old though keep in mind walls are super thin so you can hear everything.

They had a sauna that could be used 24/7! It was only half hour away from the mountain!
The bunk beds are very squeaky and it’s hard to get a full nights sleep when people are moving around on their beds.
