May 10-day visit: This is the 4th time we've rented this house from Smoky Mountain Retreat after previously renting two others on the mountain. Main reason for sticking with this home: Easy access from driveway with main living area on this level. Like the otheres, the house is always well-cleaned, except for the deck furniture. This has been the case each time, but a call to the office resulted in the job getting done on our first day. Kitchen is well-equipped and the decor and furnishings are outstanding. The exceptions is the deck furniture (old cushions, some coming apart on both deck and around firepit) and the main bedroom mattress (okay until this year when we found it to be too soft with a harder middle ridge). Rental office - A++ for customer service and staff personalities.

Our family visited Bare Necessities for the second time to celebrate the 4th of July holiday. This is an exceptionally equipped home. There are so many amenities to the home, you could never leave and have plenty to do. The master has a very comfortable bed, heated toliet, and large master bath on the main level. Our son and wife took the upstairs where there are two bedrooms, one with a king and one with king and large bathroom. My husband appreciated the gourmet kitchen with every possible high-end pot and pan and appliance. For me, the screened in patio with a fire pit and sectional looking out on the trees was my favorite spot to spend hours of my vacation unwinding. We will return to this paradise of peace in the mountains.

Windows and general cleanliness, filthy. Broken hooks and hangers in bath that fell off the wall.Locked closets that were needed for our long stay. Would not rent again. The price was not worth the quality of the rental. Never again.

My girlfriends and I had a wonderful stay at Bear Necessities cabin. Being from the Virginia Beach area, it was a great respite from the August heat. The cabin provided everything we needed and more. The only hiccup was the ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms upstairs had an issue that kept flipping the breaker. This room also had the wifi router and made it difficult to get in touch with the office but once we were able to let them know the maintenance crew came and fixed the problem enough to get the lights and wifi back on the next morning. The office staff were very nice and check in and check out was easy.

Everything went as instructed for check in after hours and package had additional details for our stay. Directions were given to the rental and we only had one wrong turn off, which was the road signage confusion. Once we made it to the cabin, we had no other issues driving up or down. Fair warning going down, you’ll need to down shift your transmission to save your brake wear. It’s a really beautiful view going up and if you’re looking for being on top of a mountain this is the place. We only had one issue and that is the gas grill was empty. Once I made a call down to the office Gloria took care of having it delivered promptly. It’s a very we’ll furnished and beautiful home inside with great decor. It’s ideal for more than one family having privacy on each floor. Highly recommend and we’ll return again. Saw a lot of wildlife going and coming on the mountain. Close to any attractions you may want to visit. We went to Cherokee, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Also Fly Fished the Smokey Mountain National Park Streams. We saw Herds of Elk and one very big Black Bear over 350 pounds. Wonderful trip and very peaceful.

This is a beautiful cabin with everything that you will need for a great vacation. The property is well taken care of and was very clean when we arrived. It has a nice view off the balcony and we enjoyed the cozy screened in porch with the fire table. We didn’t do much cooking but it has the best stocked kitchen we have seen in our many visits. We would definitely recommend Bear Necessities and would rent it again for our next visit.

We planned for over a year to have our 4 siblings and spouses meet and talk about our parents and childhood. We love the mountains and loved the home. It was comfortable and well appointed. It has good beds, a very important feature. We enjoyed our stay and accomplished our goals. We were a little disappointed in the lack of view since it was so high up but really enjoyed the home.

We had a great time in Maggie Valley. Bear Necessities is all you could ask for in a mountain retreat. The cabin is well equipped with everything you nee. The view is amazing. We loved the outside fire place. The road up is a little tricky. Lots of hair pin turns and steep in places. But after a couple time up and down we had no problems. Fantastic place to stay. We will be back!

Birthday Weekend in the Mountains
The cabin was very well appointed and had beautiful views with plenty of privacy. Our family really enjoyed our family time together in the comforts of the cabin. It had a lot really nice furniture, appliances, and comforts we have not experienced in other cabins we have stayed in. The only real negative was the trek up the mountain to get to the cabin. It is a very winding road with some hairpin turns to navigate at night and takes about 20 minutes from the main roads.

Great, clean cabin high in the mountain tops! There is a LONG hike up the mountain before you get to the property (even though it’s only roughly 2 miles). I recommend the first time going up to be in the daylight because it can be very confusing. Also, type in the address into your gps (we used phones) at the bottom of the mountain because you may lose service halfway up. Thank goodness for WiFi and iMessages, because service was hit or miss. Otherwise the property itself was very accommodating for 10 people (baby included). We would love to go back one day!!!

As we began our ascent, we could already feel this was going to be something special. Along this winding road we decided to roll down the window to get some of the freshest air we have had in a long time. Then we heard the sound of the stream with numerous little waterfalls, lending even more to this already great start. Once we arrived to this awesome house, it was like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Everything was perfect and my daughter and I made some lifelong memories.

Cabin was spacious and allowed space for adults and teens. Overall, the cabin was close to a bunch of trails and to Waynesville and Maggie Valley and allow for a good time even on days in which weather was not the greatest. The screened porch with gas fire pit was great on cooler evenings. The kitchen was amazing!!! The only drawback was the ping pong table that was advertised was broken and we couldn't utilize it. Overall, great place to stay.

Very well equipped home! I cook and it didn't lack anything! The only thing is it needs a really good cleaning/dusting. The furniture on the deck is getting tired and dirty. I cleaned the cabinet doors and reorganized the kitchen which is understandable for a rental. Just needs attention on cleaning! We would certainly stay there was a VERY comfortable home without a doubt!

Even better than we expected.
Everything about our stay was great. The location was so quiet and peaceful that it almost seemed like we were the only people on the mountain. I was concerned that it might be difficult to get to the cabin in my sports car but the roads were very good. The cabin was nice and the furnishings and appliances were very good quality. The management folks were very helpful. We would recommend this cabin to any of our friends and family and we look forward to another visit ourselves!

Bear Necessities
This property was great for our group of ten. The home was beautiful, clean and well-stocked. Linens and towels were of great quality. Beds were comfortable and the three levels worked well for us.We had a thirteen, a fourteen and a fifteen year old. They enjoyed the lower level where they did not have to be watched by the adults. The three levels were perfect for privacy to read a book or take a nap and the huge living room and kitchen was a perfect place to come together for meals, games, puzzles and enjoying each others company.

This was probably the best cabin I’ve ever stayed in (and I’ve stayed in quite a few)! The owners went all out with everything in the cabin! Very well equipped! The drive up was a little tricky but worth every curve and hill!

This property was pristine with magnificent vistas. It is more challenging to locate but worth the confusion (if you're leaving and going down, you're headed in the right direction!). It was stocked more generously than anticipated – my only request would be more bath towels. The seven of us were scrounging for more. We were there for a wedding and fortunately one car of our party arrived earlier than anticipated, because when the rest of us got there (before 5pm on a Thursday), the office was already closed with a note that they would return the next day. I understand about the easy pick-up envelopes, but our “cabin” was new to the listings, an extreme outlier and not shown on the maps. I *highly* recommend someone taking the time to create a turn-by-turn guide to each of the properties. Note: this property does not have cable, so I would advise each renter to have access to their own Netflix or HULU or somesuch.

This is a well appointed house in a great location to get away. Beautiful view of the mountains from the back porch. Loved listening to the wild turkeys talking to each other and the babbling creek. We really enjoyed the screened-in porch with fire pit. There's plenty of room for a large group and the kitchen has everything you would need and then some.The road to the cabin is well maintained, but steep and curvy in some spots. I wouldn't want to drive it in the winter. It takes about 10 - 15 minutes to get to the cabin from the main road.

We had an excellent time and the view was great. Loved being on the porch. I was surprised there were not the basic supplies needed for 10 people. Not enough or no extra dishwasher soap, toilet paper, shampoo or conditioner, no extra towels, no bedding for roll away .
