It's not only a great value for a Lakefront, bit has 2 private hot tubs and 1 private master suite (newly renovated also!) Dp this is great for the Mother in Law or the 2nd group or family that comes. We will be back again soon. Loved it!

It is extremely outdated. The deck is old as big bear it self. The cabin inside is overall decent. It needs new decks. Needs someone to actually do something with the landscape. There is supposedly a dock but it's locked. No grass all dirt, splinters and weeds.

We stayed at the Raccoon’s Nest over New Year’s Eve. It was understandably a busy time in the area but we had a few issues with the property that occurred through our trip. Upon arrival, the wifi was not working and our group tried to get help but ended up having to fix the issue ourselves. The floors were fairly dirty upon arrival and there were multiple fixtures and windows that had built up cobwebs on them. It was a rainy/snowy weekend and the house sprung a couple leaks during the night around the living room. Sadly, the fridge continued to drop in temperature over the course of our trip and a handful of our items spoiled. We ended up putting canned drinks outside as it was colder. Even without opening the fridge for hours and not having much inside the fridge at this point it just got warmer. Also a note for anyone renting, this home includes two separated buildings. The loft has one king bed plus a rollaway if needed and a full bathroom. The main house with three bedrooms only has one full bathroom on the ground floor We did bring these issues to the attention of the rental company after our stay to requested a partial refund for these inconveniences which was honored and we received a little amount back. Also, as a note for anyone thinking to rent in Big Bear. We learned this the hard way but it is required to have the single person who booked the rental check-in face-to-face at the rental offices. Because the office was nestled deeper in town this caused an additional hour of wait time in holiday traffic. Given that you’re already required to submit a photos of your ID & credit card as part of the rental confirmation and that we had about 8 other ppl in our party who could have been authorized to check-in it feels like this city ordinance is pretty unnecessary and was a great hassle. Aside from these issues, the home was livable, had the correct number of bedrooms, the location was good and the hot tubs worked, which was one of my main draws. There was surprisingly a good amount of kitchen items (casserole dishes, grilling tools, measuring cups, etc). We had been told to bring any specialty kitchen items but they really had a lot covered. I’m guessing from other guests leaving things behind. They had the two grills pictured on the porch available and other items for shoveling or sledding on snow were supplied. The house heater worked at warming the home. Overall, it was not a bad stay but I can’t say it was exceptional either.

I will will WILL happily stay here again. My kids loved the foozball table and the layouts of the rooms (my college daughter especially loved having the apartment over the garage to herself). I loved how many odds and ends were accessible in the kitchen (most rentals have the bare-minimum....this location had all the tongs/spatulas/trays/etc for anyone wanting to cook legit meals), and my husband made great use of the bbq on the deck with the perfect view while the kids and I lounged in the hot tub. I loved waking up to the view off of our private deck in the master bedroom....BUT (there's always a "but", right) there are no window coverings in the Master Bedroom, so make sure to pack eye shades. Otherwise the sun will wake you at 6am like lasers. Throw on some eye shades, however, and you'll sleep like a log as the beds are surprisingly comfy for a rental. Overall 4.999 stars for this excellent home!

Made our stay so no enjoyable. Would not recommend nor return again. Sad.

Reviewer Comments: We stayed the 1st weekend of Feb at Racoon's Nest with several families and this is not where you would want to spend a lot of time. The place is in a decent location, rustic and cramped.I was with a mellow crowd looking for an easy getaway. so we were not going to make a big stink about the the snow unshoveled and covering the property. it was an adventure getting in and out of the property....very slippery. though it sleeps 12 all common areas are small so unable to spend time as a group. When we arrived there was a leak from the ceiling and the back area was completely wet from the heavy snow days before. Someone came out in an hr and spent some time on the roof fixing. We were glad the property management was reactive. We wanted the be sure we weren't liable for any damages. our stay was fine. Our issues came about when we left. They property management charged my credit card without notifying me so I called and they stated we left fecal matter in the top loft room. I was shocked. As I questioned them more they said there was also animal hair all over. I told them why would I leave the place tidied up to have some animal poop in the place knowing I would be charged and furthermore we didn't bring any animals. They were very accusatory that we had done this damage. I regret not taking pictures when we left. I told them to check the number of people who have access to their lockbox and start questioning them. They said it had to be us since they have security measures in place. They have not responded nor refunded me the damage charges and it's a shame they left a bad memory of our trip when we had a lovely ski vacation with kids. It's been just over 2 weeks ago. We are back in Big Bear and now staying at a lovely well maintained lodge not having to deal with the cramped small space and old amenities and unkempt property at Racoons Nest for half the price and closer to the ski resorts. Now I realize that we were completely ripped off.

We loved the cabin - it fit a ton of people, everything was clean, the hot tubs worked, and it was a great place for a group of friends to gather!

Fuzball table was broken and one of the hot tubs was extremely dirty

We have fun wherever we go but there were a few reasons I wouldn't rent that particular property again. The website and emails sent need to be updated to show checkout AFTER 4pm. It currently says 3pm or 4pm. An inspector has to come in after cleaning. She finished at 4:30pm. A lot smaller inside than in looks, especially the kitchen sitting area. The beds in the main house are really uncomfortable. No curtains in the main bedroom so you're up at 6am with the natural light whether you want to or not. The wood floors could use varnishing. The area outside could use a clean up so its usable. It's not inviting at all. The fooz ball is missing a player. Only one bathroom with a shower, not great for 12 people. We booked it knowing it didn't look as nice as the other rentals but it was lakefront. You can't get in the lake, too full of lake shrubs, etc., and the area right in front of the lake is not inviting. Needs a clean up as well. the jacuzzi downstairs got hot but we couldn't figure out how to turn the jets on. I've rented many properties in Lake arrowhead/Big Bear, so I do have something to compare this one to. so maybe another property from them, but not this one.

It was a pleasant relief from the Covid quarantine. However, I was very disappointed in the general cleanliness of the cabin. I must say the hot tubs were very nice. The linens and towels were clean. The floors were filthy. We could not scrub our grandchildren's feet enough to remove the black dirt. We recleaned the kitchen benches -- the paper towel was black. There were 20 dead flies on the kitchen window sill. The porch hadn't been swept in quite awhile. The oven and refrigerator were clean as well as the bathrooms. The location of the cabin was great. We rented pontoon boats, jet skis and kayaks. Our family likes to fish so it would have been nice if there was a dock available. We did, however, have a wonderful time. Just wish the cabin was a little nicer for the amount of money we spent. The cabin definitely needs some deep cleaning and renovation. The outside railings and loft patio floor weren't too stable either.

We loved our stay! The views of the sunset and sunrise were absolutely perfect. So peaceful. Quiet neighborhood and we just felt like we were able to relax the entire time. Plenty of room for everyone. We had four kids & 6 adults staying with us and we all had our own bed. Jacuzzi was so nice to sit in while watching the sun set. Plenty of yard space for kids and short walk to marina where we rented a pontoon boat! Oh miss it so much! We will be back

Great lakefront location! Five star lake view. Beautiful views from the deck and spa. Big yard with horseshoes. Some items have been updated and some could use updating (old carpet and chairs). More of a cabin feel vs luxury lake house. It would have been nice to have a dishwasher. Master bed and downstairs bed are comfortable. Downstairs bath has been updated. Very clean sheets and linens. We would stay again!

The renting process and check in process was very easy. The location and cabin itself was perfect for our large family gathering, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals and their was plenty of space for the kids to play inside and out. Will definitely stay here again!

The house is very well equipped with all sorts of things and was very clean . We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful and quaint surroundings. It was close to town and stores. Pillow cases were left unchanged and we found an old apple core under one of the beds. Also carpets were dirty and turned the bottom of our socks black. The temperatures were very low at night, it was 17 degrees outside the first night, and the house seemed impossible to heat to a comfortable level. Most of us slept in hats and gloves. The rental company was helpful and did their best to fix the mistakes and delays. Even with all the issues we do plan on return next year.

Having the loft was amazing for the kids. The flat yard for playing outside is hard to come across. Plenty of room for all of us. We're sad to see the lake level going down, but hoping for a great winter and returning next year. Having the dock to hang out on all day is a huge bonus. Plus, the neighbors are fabulous and friendly.
