Our family enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai! The layout is perfect for families with a large dining table in the middle room and the large eat-in counter kitchen (which was very well-equipped). We used the grill and the gas firepit on the deck and enjoyed the views! A super-nice surpise were the VCRs and VHS movies...my 4 year old grandson LOVED the Disney movies! A few things did detract from our visit: There were temporary street plates in front of the house on Portola Drive, which made a lot of noise at night (but who can predict the utility company schedule?), some grime on the floors when we arrived and pet odors in some of the rooms. To Lori's credit, I didn't contact her during our stay simply because we weren't there much during the day and we didn't want to have to repack our things for a cleaning crew. I did let her know upon check out though, so it could be rectified for the next visitor. The front yard, outdoor shower, beach gear and numerous amenities inside the house were a wonderful touch!

Our family enjoyed the open space within the home. The beds and couches were very comfortable. The atmosphere was relaxing and the beach was a 4 minute walk, which was perfect. We appreciated use of the beach chairs and beach toys.

This property was very well set up, comfortable and was very clean. The little one really liked the front and back yards. We all enjoyed the short walk to the beach at Corcoran Lagoon. Within walking distance to some restaurants and grocery stores. In inclement weather, there were lots of movies and books. Very easy to work with the owners, who were very responsive to our questions. Highly recommended!

We came to stay at Hale Kai just a few days after all the big storms that had hit Santa Cruz this January 2023. I was coming from the East Coast to see my son and daughter in law and meet my new granddaughter for the first time. Lori kept us up to date on how their place was doing during the storm. Hale Kai was not affected even though it is so close to the beach. I knew we were just coming to visit and spend time together. Being originally from Santa Cruz, we didn't need to do any real sight seeing. The house was darling. Made you feel like you were staying in a Sweet Hawaiian Bungalow. The house is furnished beautifully with lots of Hawaiian furniture and memorabilia. There is a fireplace that works in the living room, but we chose to spend most of our time in the family room right off the kitchen. For a rental. this house had just about everything you need to cook in style. I was very impressed by the great assortment of everything you need to make a gourmet meal. The dining table in the formal dining room easily fits 8-10 for sit down dinner or there is the sit up center bar with stools in the kitchen. The bathrooms were filled with everything one might need in case you forgot something. I would love to go back and use their back patio and gas fire area when the weather is better. There is an awesome beach and ocean view from the family room and also on the upper deck seating outside area. I can't say enough good things about Hale Kai. I look forward to staying again in the future. We had just a wonderful, relaxing time with the 4 of us. I can't wait to rock my baby girl on the front porch in the big rockers surrounding the lush hawaiian gardens the next time we come. This is one of those precious gems that you want to keep to yourself and not share how wonderful it is, but I just can't. Great job Lori on the fine communication and Beautiful Home. The house is delightful, has views of the ocean and a fabulous outdoor firepit. We were amazed at how well equipped it was!

We really loved this house and it’s location. You can walk to the beach. It’s a short drive to Capitola, Soquel, and other places. We brought my 88 year old Mom out for a reunion with our family, which included grand & great grandchildren. The house had plenty of outdoor room , as well as indoor. We would love to stay there again!

Beautifully updated home with Hawaiian vibe in a welcoming neighborhood! Spacious kitchen and dining areas, with comfortable family and living rooms. Plenty of room for a relaxing family vacation (4 adults and baby). Especially loved the two-tiered deck with fire pit and the beach within walking distance! We would definitely stay here again! I stayed at this house for my 5 year-old-son spring break and my older parents. The house was in great location very close to the boardwalk which my son enjoyed. Also short drive to roaring camp railroad which I also recommend. My son and I enjoyed walking to the beach to watch the sunset and she had plenty of beach toys so you dont have to worry about bringing your own. I am sure we ill come back in future!

The house was stocked with everything we needed, and it was perfect for hosting BBQs with friends. The beach was visible from the back and very easy to get to (a short walk). Big & lots of rooms. Big kitchen well stocked. Views were amazing from decks. Lots of out door space for little ones to run around. Short fun walk to the beach. Library was great & lots of games. Steep drive way beware of scraping on low cars. Overall had a wonderful time. Can't wait to come back

We really enjoyed our time here. The kitchen is well stocked and well laid out - as it is open to the family room, it was easy to socialize as a group. The house is an easy walk to the beach, and we appreciated having boogie boards and beach chairs included! Thank you.

Having 2 living areas was terrific since we had our teenage kids and they needed an indoor space to hang out too. The front room couch pulls out and slept 2 kids comfortably all week. The back living area is nice and runs alongside the kitchen counter with several seats. You can easily have breakfast with the whole family and not fee cramped at all. I loved how open those 2 rooms were. The back deck is fantastic! You can hang out up top and see/listen to the ocean or you can light the fireplace and chat. I spent quite a bit of time out on the deck in the mornings and in the evenings. Great size and layout. The front yard is the first thing you will stop and appreciate when you arrive. It’s definitely a well maintained area and very private. It’s like having a second back yard. Loved the outdoor shower to get rid of the sand. The location is also fantastic. You can easily walk to the beach, very short drives to the boardwalk attractions and restaurants. You are literally short drives from beautiful rugged coastline views and towering redwoods. We had a wonderful time with family at Lori’s house near the beach. Comfortable, well-stocked home with all you need for days at the beach. There was some construction going on next door during the day, but looks like it should be finishing up soon. Easy walk to the beach and short drive to downtown Santa Cruz, Pleasure Point or Capitola.

This house has wonderful indoor/outdoor living spaces. It is comfortable and cute and very well equipped for cooking, game night, beach time and more. The two bathrooms made it great for our trip with our grandsons. The bunkroom with movies was terrific for them. The beach is very close and the views from the deck are terrific. We really enjoyed our time there.

There were great food options within 10 minutes in any direction, and it was centrally located to most of everything else we wanted to do. The house was very nice (and the outdoor shower was great to have), and had lots of beach toys, boogie boards, and other important supplies for the beach. While we didn’t use the back deck very much, or the fire pit at all, the upper deck with the big table and view of the beach was where I started every day and where we invariably ended up at the end of the day. I’m not quite sure how the space would work for more than 4 people, although you could likely put two kids in each bed of the bunk bed. But anyone sleeping on the pull-out couch in the living room would have to he an early riser, since there aren’t any curtains. (Privacy isn’t an issue, but there’s nothing to keep the room dark.) The house could have been cleaner, but nothing that would keep me from renting again.

This is a cute house that is nicely decorated with a beach vibe. It is very close to a great little beach. You can see it from the deck and walk across the street to get to it. We had 4 adults and a toddler and it worked just fine for us. If it was warmer, I would have enjoyed the outside shower after a trip to the beach. Lori is great to work with.
