This house has a great location and is in good condition, the online photos are accurate. Everything important worked (AC, plumbing, dishwasher, appliances, etc.). The slider on the main level didn't slide or lock easily, and became next to impossible to deal with. Bring your own beach accessories. Not 5 stars because there is just too much furniture in all the wrong places! It's difficult to actually have people comfortably in rooms because the furniture is always in the way (e.g., beds and seating in front of doors leading to the decks, fragile decorative desks and chairs in corners with seemingly no purpose, limited closet space with no area to store luggage, a gigantic table and side hutch in a tiny dining area, more clutter in the side hutch rendering it useless, chairs that don't reach the height of the giant table . . .). The clutter in the kitchen was overwhelming--too much of everything and no place to store food. And the non-stick cookware is abundant, old, and scratched beyond being safe to use. For the price, we're moving on to another house for next year. Less is more, folks, particularly when you have such a nice location.

We were alarmed when we arrived a little early for check-in and had the property manager tell us the house wasn't quite ready yet because the cleaners had reported the a/c unit was "struggling." Turned out it had died, on a Friday afternoon, when Galveston temps were higher than ever before in living memory. We thought our trip was ruined, but the host had a repair crew there in an hour and a brand new a/c unit installed within three. Pretty impressive. We were also impressed two nights later when the storm blew a utility line down, blocking the driveway. A call to the host at 9 am had an emergency repair crew there from the power company in less than an hour. The house is fine--lots of kitchen utensiles and basic staples. The rooms are comfy enough, if a tad small. The deck is great and the living/dining area is ok, though maybe a bit overstuffed with furniture. My biggest gripe was a paucity of shelves in the fridge and the absence of a grease drip pan for the grill on the deck (we told the host about this on checkout and they promised to fix). The beach is quiet and uncrowded--far from Galveston's mobs. The walkover is nice and the decks have beautiful views and plenty of room (the deck chairs could use some cushions). We've stayed in around a dozen Galveston beach houses over the years. This one is very good for the price, and you could not ask for more responsive management.

We recommend WindyGate. It is a lovely location in a quite part of the island on the the ocean front. The house is very comfortable and feels more like you are staying at a friends house rather than a rental property. We come with our daughter's family and grandchildren and it is a perfect house for all of us and is very safe for children.

Deck/view amazing, great and convenient walkover to beach.

There was plumbing issues during our stay. Upstairs Bathroom shower and Kitchen sink drains were backed up. Dishwasher did not work. Problems with an upstairs bedroom shutter that went up and down on its own until it broke and stopped partially down and the ocean view was obstructed.

We stayed here for our annual birthday trip with family and friends. We have a range of ages between 3- 75 and everyone enjoyed themselves. The stairs were easy to manage and the location is perfect. The beach felt like our own personal space, with hardly anyone else around us. The house has everything you need- kitchen appliances and utensils & a working ice maker. Loved that the kitchen had plenty of counter space. The beds were very comfy & the home is nicely decorated overall. We would love to stay here again!

Great house for a crowd! A master with bath for the grandparents on the main floor, a master with bath for the parents and another big bath and two other bedrooms on the second floor. Good beds and linens, lots of kitchenware and a big table for ouzzles, games and meals. Plus, a great shady porch with a wonderful view overlooking the boardwalk with steps down to the beach. We had a great time and are looking forward to staying again next summer!

Besides the views, the best feature of the home is a first floor enclosed foyer/stairs. This downstairs entry area is perfect for storing beach toys.The kitchen was well stocked, but most of the items were old, scratched & very worn. With handles missing, they were useless. Several of the small appliances didn’t work & we had to ask for replacements. Upon getting into bed the first night, we realized the twin bed & twin sleeper were not meant to be slept in. These beds were almost impossible to believe. (I believe they count the twin sleeper as a bed when they count the number of people the house sleeps. Therefore, the house actually will only sleep 8, really 5, they were small queen beds, defiantly not 10 as advertised.) That bed would not be suitable for anyone to sleep on. It’s a metal frame with a cloth over it. Also, there was no bedding provided for the sleeper sofa. The upstairs air conditioner (It was not an ordinary vent. It's like icy, turbo vent) blew icy cold air (it had to have been in the 30/40 degrees) directly on both of these beds for more than an hour at a time & would only turn off for a few minutes then come back on again. Closing the vents helped with the cold air but that created a high-pitched whistle.The downstairs air conditioner was not working properly, as it was always a lot warmer in the bedroom than the living/dining/kitchen area, making it hard to sleep there. The master bath upstairs had only been partially cleaned. We found pieces of broken combs & someone’s contact lenses on the floor. When I reported this, I did not get a response. We should have at least gotten some of the cleaning fee back. We also found hairs (not ours) on the towels.Our suggestions for improvement would be more than one bath towel per guest, kitchen cabinets deep cleaned & organization and new mattresses

This house is right on the beach, beautiful view, with 4 bedrooms which was great. The kitchen was also roomy and easily maneuverable for 4 people. Overall, however, the place needed a better cleaning, some freshening and updating, and in dire need of some maintenance. Also, if you have trouble getting up and down stairs, this is not the place for you. Good neighborhood, convenient to most places.

Very nice traditional house. The view is amazing! The porch is the best part of the house. Lots of seating and shade morning to night. There is a swing and hammock. Bedrooms are nice and beds are comfortable as well. As previously noted by other guests and my only complaint...cupboards need a cleaning. Beach area has very little traffic. I would definitely rent again.

Even though it rained all weekend, we still very much enjoyed our stay at Windygate, the house was comfortable and offered all of the amenities we needed

The property was generally clean and well maintained. The rooms are big and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked but the cupboards and cabinets could stand to be pared down (too many items and many not useful) and cleaned. The beach was pretty quiet (first week of March) and town is only about 20 minutes away. Lots of chairs on the decks and the porch swing was our favorite. Overall, a very comfortable home and we would rent again.

Overall great house - breathtaking ocean views from all 4 bedrooms and wall to wall windows in kitchen and living area. Kitchen cabinets could use a deep clean and better organization, but lots of cooking options.
