One of those rare occasions when all the elements of a short term rental come together in perfect harmony. The property itself is an historical gem; quixotic architecture, period furnishings and state of the art appliances make for a unique stay far removed from the comparatively bland norm. The delightful hosts were easy to communicate with, provided a warm personal welcome on our arrival as well as a generous basket of groceries. All this located near the heart of this ancient city, in easy walking distance of the park, river, medieval buildings, shops and restaurants.

The property was immaculate, the location is great & the owners were very helpful. We all enjoyed chilling out in the evening at the property after busy days out, it felt like a real home from home. A two minute walk takes you into the town for restaurants, bars, shops etc but it is so quiet in the property you would never know !

The property was very modern for a 1903 building. The furnishing was excellent and comfortable. We were 4 people staying in a 3 bedroom cottage. The appliances were state of the art in a kitchen that looked like it was brand new. The location was within walking distance of the train station and in the heart of downtown, with parks and shopping near by. The hosts were welcoming and took care to show us how everything worked. There were brochures of places to see and things to do around Chester. In all it was a wonderful stay.

Very good location just a few minutes walk into Chester’s main area. The house was in perfect condition with lots of personal touches and we were made to feel very welcome.

Everything in the house is really unique and of good quality. We were just two in a 3 bedroom house so we had plenty of space and even a nice little garden to enjoy. There was an exceptionally good hamper of treats to enjoy and it was nice to be met at the house and shown where to park and how everything in the house worked. The location is perfect with everything close at hand but in a quiet location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Had a fantastic weekend, Chester is a great city to visit and this cottage contributed to a good time by all!!!!

This was one our best stays. The owners are warm and welcoming. The home is well appointed and very comfortable. This is a great location with food and shops within a short walk.

Barbara and Andrew's cottage was such a delight to stay in. It's extremely well-appointed, with lovely details throughout the property. The kitchen is a joy to use and the beds are very comfortable. Barbara and Andrew were perfect hosts, responsive and friendly. The location is ideal for walking into the center of Chester, just a few blocks away. Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed with this beautiful cottage.

We enjoyed a lovely week in Chester made so much better by the first class accommodation at Douglas Cottage. We have never been in a holiday home that was so well equipped and comfy. It was lovely to actually meet the owners who were there to greet us and show us around. The house is in an excellent position, a short walk from the station and an even shorter walk to the centre of the city. and a large park and the river. I would highly recommend this property if you are visiting Chester.

Douglas Cottage is a super place to stay ideally situated in the centre of Chester. The hosts were very welcoming and their cottage is perfect in every way. The cleanliness was superb all the more important in the current pandemic. Would highly recommend. I hope we’re lucky enough to stay again in the future. Valerie

We had a fabulous time at Douglas Cottage. Our lovely hosts, Andy and Barbara were very welcoming. They met us on arrival, showed us around the stunning cottage and helped us with local information. They also provided a thoughtful welcome basket of goodies containing essentials...and some treats too! The cottage is filled with many beautiful, interesting and intriguing items. It's also of interest historically as it was designed by John Douglas, whose work can be found across the city. Particularly the Eastgate Clock on the city walls but also many interesting churches and houses (he clearly liked turrets!) The cottage was spotless (I've stayed in a few and this was the cleanest ever). The beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well stocked and had all mod cons. My daughter's favourite part of the cottage was the reading nook in the turret. A great retreat! The situation of the cottage is brilliant. A short level walk takes you into the city. At the other end of Bath Street is the lovely Grosvenor Park. A lovely place for a meander and easy access to the River Dee and The Groves (River walks, boat trips and food/drink) Chester is a great place in itself. There's lots to see and do that caters for all interests. We also found it a great base and visited Liverpool and Llandudno on the train as a family. Trains to Liverpool go every 20 minutes or so and it cost us £13 return for 2 adults and a child. My daughter and I also drove over to Snowdonia in just over an hour and had a lovely walk in the hills. I heartily recommend Chester, and Douglas Cottage.

Really unusual property that you might walk by and wonder, "I wonder what it's like to live there..." - well, you can! This is by far the cleanest and best looked after property we've rented. The decor finish and cleanliness is flawless. Also perfectly equipped with quality kitchen utensils, etc. Welcome basket of essentials much appreciated. Beds very comfy. We walked to everywhere we went in Chester as it's right next to the centre. Cheers.

Douglas Cottage was a great location to celebrate a friend's birthday. The cottage is very well equipped, spotlessly clean and centrally located. We were warmly welcomed by Barbara and Andy. It was nice that bread, milk, eggs etc were provided. I highly recommend A stay.

This house exceeded all my expectations. It is a beatuiful little semi-detached house in an excellent location right at the top of Chester. Well stocked, efficient layout, clean and useable bathroom. Superb hosts. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay - and I highly recommend it.

What a stunning property. All the architectural features of its time with all the modern touches people expect these days. It’s 20 yards off the main street so everything is on your doorstep. Andy the owner along with his mum Barbara couldn’t have been nicer. If you are going to Chester then I would highly recommend this place, it’s fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Douglas Cottage. Beautiful accommodation which is finished to such a high standard, great communication with the owner, very easy check in process and really personal touches left for us at the cottage on our arrival. So much attention to detail and care has gone into making this property such a lovely place to stay - I could not make any suggestions for improvement! Fantastic central location, with everything you need just around the corner and yet a lovely quiet stay at the cottage will still be had. Would highly recommend.

We were met by the owners and given a warm welcome and a comprehensive tour of the property . Even with the most critical eye I could. Not fault anything. The attention to detail for any travelling family has been considered The rooms were all decorated to an incredible standard and all immaculately clean On this occasion we travelled with teenage children 15-18 and they found plenty of space. The all important WiFi serving them well and without problem The owners have spared no expense here even down to the high quality mattress and bedding. Great nights sleep for all! The kitchen was comprehensively equipped With high quality products. As a personal touch when we arrived a small produce hamper and fridge essentials had been left for us. Completly unexpected and a wonderful touch. The location is perfect for a walk into Chester.The town centre is within two minutes and you will be walking through the shops and bars enjoying the atmosphere of the town. Parking was a bit of a concern but it was never a problem with a resident street parking pass available each day and as promised I never struggled to park outside the cottage each day I can not recommend this property enough it was a privilege to stay here and I hope to return again in the future.
