Staff was super friendly. Nice pools, nice garden and good food.

The room was quite small en no fridge (probably we knew this before). We had no sun or view on the terrace.

A nice lodge with very spacious but scarcely furnished rooms. The walking trails are nice and give you a first glimpse into a tropical forest. The food in the restaurant was good. We chose the hotel for its proximity to La Selva Research Station. The location is pleasant and quiet. We would stay here again.

The design of bathroom is so strange, not very practical

Walls too thin between rooms and can hear the noise coming from the other side... you hope to have quiet neighbors with no kids !!!!

Very nice place, within the nature. The restaurant terrace looks over a frog pond. Many birds fly around in the morning, frogs start to sing in the evening. you can see plenty of them if you look closely.

We checked into the room and there was no toilet paper at all, so we had to go back to the reception. In general the bathroom was very old (the shower was spraying a lot and partially flooding the bathroom. The windows have not nets against bugs and mosqitos, so we got some more visitors. The coffee capsules were missing (no need for a coffee maker then). Wifi only in the common area and not so powerful. Poweroutlets only in front of the gift shop, but only 10% are working and at 9 pm we got kicked out, because they closed this area. Like half an hour later we basically left sitting in the complete dark when they simply turned off all lights in the rest of the common area - no announcement made. Seeing then a security guy with a gun didn't gave us much confidence in the area around. Food complete average, nothing special, no special tastes. Pool areas small and older. Overall more pretending than the advertised higher middle class.

The gardens on the hotel property are full of birds, there are some trails and a pond with caymans. The room itself was clean and had a terrace with beautiful view.

Breakfast very good buffet style. Dinner was very good also. Rooms were spacious and had a nice back porch. Shower was great with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Lots of beautiful birds around the lodge. The two swimming pools are great and very clean. Very nice lodge with lots to do in arrea.

We stayed 3 nights and things were great.

It was all good. No negatives. Enjoyed our stay here.

Breakfast was geared towards locals. Not a criticism, just an observation

The Ara Ambigua Lodge is located about 2km outside of the Puerto Viejo village, so it's quite private and remote without being inaccessible. They have quite an amazing range of facilities and it's actually structured like a holiday resort, with separate bungalows that were all incredibly roomy. It doesn't look tacky though, especially because the area is covered in beautiful vegetation. Everything also was wheelchair accessible. There's a great restaurant with a diverse range of food options (portions are massive, so I'd advise sharing) that looks out on a garden where food is left out for birds. We managed to see a rare breed of toucan when having lunch. There's also a pool and an accessible trail around the place to catch a glimpse of nature and wildlife. Best of all were the helpful staff, who all spoke English and helped us out with all our requests.

The hotel looks a little run-down (faded colours and signs that are falling apart, old equipment like the AC and TV) and even though it's cleaned daily some areas of the room remain a little grimey. The detergent used on the towels smells a little strange. No deal-breakers though, and it does lend the place a rustic charm. More annoying: the WiFi signal didn't reach up to our room.

- the room was worn out and not very nice to spend time there except for sleeping (bed was good) - no fridge, no safe, no WiFi in the room - some bugs, but this is difficult to avoid in this climate

Food was good, personnel friendly. Very clean and well kept. Absolutely pet friendly. The frog pond and bird feeding area by the restaurant is beautiful with lots of birds to see. Got an AMAZING massage at the spa.

I would have liked to have fresh fruit for breakfast. This area is famous for its top quality fruit and yet there was none of it in the buffet. Rooms are ample and very clean, but they could be even better with details to make them more cozy.
