In fairness, I will start with the few positives I can say about the Eggers. It is well located if proximity to the main train station is important, and it was for me. Public spaces are what one expects of a decaying Grande Dame from the turn of the century. The room they put me in should be reserved for suicides. It had a single window facing a small lightwell with many other room windows facing into it, providing no privacy if the window and curtains were open. It was painted in very dark colors and poorly lit. When I checked in there was a burned out bulb, not that it mattered. Once I saw what some of the other rooms were like I realized I had really gotten the shaft. Staff were friendly and behaved as if they were going to be helpful, but ultimately, frequently were not. There was a heated towel bar in my shower and when I mentioned to reception that I needed to learn how to use it, they said they would take care of it. That was the end of that. The bed was very uncomfortable. It may have been a double, or their version of it, but there were two thin, uncomfortable pads on top of what appeared to be a mattress. Neither night there provided me with more than about 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. The bathroom was poorly maintained. The shaving mirror was falling off the wall. There was mildew in the grout in the shower. Towels were threadbare. If I were staying one day longer I would have moved to a different hotel.

I stayed in Gothenburg one night only and I had to catch a train to Stockholm the following morning. I’m happy I picked this hotel which was next to train station which in some European cities can be bad, but Gothenburg is small, safe and it was easy and convenient to get around from Eggers. Check in was fast and efficient, the room had everything I needed plus it was comfortable and clean. Great stay!

The room smelled like fish the moment we walked in. It has nothing to do with being near water. There was just a fish smell soaked into the room. The hotel doesn't have air conditioning. So, if you want to be cool at night, you need to open the window. However, there is a metro station next door. So, if you open the windows at night, you'll have to listen to trains and police sirens all night. Also, the bathtub is "modernized" to include a shower, but it's too easy to make a mess if you actually do try to shower. The location is great. It's right next to beautiful gardens and near the mall. It's also very walkable to parks and shopping areas. It's also a very beautiful hotel with a lot of history.

What a character hotel, simply beautiful and charming. Brilliant location across from the train station and next to the mall and flower gardens. Staff was wonderful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing with a large selection. Definitely recommend!

It’s amazing to be back and stay at this beautiful and well preserved old hotel. The rooms are spacious and the service is fantastic. The breakfast is one of the best I have experienced, and I love having it in the orangery.

I encountered some issues during check-in with my service dog; the staff attempted to charge me a fee, even though he is a service animal, country to what their website states. Additionally, there is no charging stations near the bed, which is significantly inconvenient for me since due to heath reasons I need to connect my CPAP and heart monitor

Nice setting and cozy, good breakfast - but awful beds! Didn’t sleep until very late, so soft it breaks your back!

One out 4 staff were excellent. One staff member got annoyed when we asked for location of the cab rank. Breakfast was very ordinary.

Hotel itself was good and no issue with staff. Temperature unbearably hot and bed was like trying to sleep on a jelly. If you got close to the edge you fell off. Worst nights sleep ever!!!! Staff were excellent

Definitely worth revisiting! We loved the hotel- decor, service-mindedness of the staff and the size of our classic room. The bar made amazing signature cocktails and the breakfast provided everything we needed. The location was a plus- with the central station a stone’s throw away and trams and buses and a miriad of shopping options and places to eat also very near. Thanks for making our stay memorable and for managing the surprise cake and the complimentary welcome wine. The coffee and tea available 24-hours in the reception lounge was also a bog plus. Pity that the coffee in the room is instant. It compromisew the quality of Hotel Eggers. Hope the hotel upgrades its coffee service quality. Might I suggest a French press and ground coffee in each room? This would make a big difference to the quality.

Great room with old period features. Lovely and warm, comfortable bed, quiet. A bit tricky coping with the shower over the bath, but ok. Very good, expansive choice, breakfast. Staff were very helpful and responsive in getting a minor problem fixed.

The hotel is really great, staff is very friendly. Well worth the price. The restaurant is too expensive for the quality it delivers, meat was low quality and several dishes were cold.

Such a Beautiful Property with History

Near train station and excellent location near many cafes, restaurants and shops. Outstanding breakfast with many choices, very friendly staff, large room, comfy bed and pillows, nice shower with great hot water pressure. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel.
