Nice place, bit old fashioned but excellent staff and so convenient to explore Funchal.

This property is incredible for the price, loads of rooftop space, great breakfast, balcony rooms as standard and Carina was a lovely receptionist and very welcoming.

Excellent Hotel and amazing staff

We highly recommend this hotel. It was in a very good location to get to the Mercado and the cable car, as well as any place in Funchal. We don’t recommend having a car in Funchal. It’s definitely a walking town. Special thanks to the receptionist. She makes the hotel a higher rating. She was very helpful with recommendations and overall being so dedicated to us having a terrific stay. We would stay here again, unfortunately it was already booked

Excellent location in the old town. Room with a balcony to the street was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Roof top pool is amazing with an amazing view of the town. Swim-able even in January. Special thanks to Tanya who helped us get a better room.

The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot and had good pressure, the window opened, and there was plenty of storage space in the room. The buffet breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh tropical fruit salad.

A special mention to the exemplary service from all staff members. Very helpful and accommodating, helped me with finding out about bus options when I had failed to notice it was a public holiday. No issue holding my luggage on the day of check out while I waited for my bus. The building makes the most of retro features and has all the amenities you'd expect. For a very central location it's tucked away on a side street which kept my room nice quiet at night. I'd happily stay here again!

Excellent hotel. 1960s theme is very well done, but not overpowering. Hotel is comfortable and very clean, breakfast is excellent and plentiful. Most importantly the staff are unfailingly hard working, friendly and helpful. We would certainly use again.

The pool and patio were fantastic and spacious. We had drinks and takeout dinner on the rooftop! The breakfast was okay, however the buffer dinner was awful and we felt quick sick afterwards. There is no AC in the rooms. Water pressure and patio were lovely! Provided a glass of champagne on arrival which was a nice touch.

This hotel was so close to the city centre, with extremely lovely staff and service. The free breakfast was fantastic, and most of the buffet food was nice. The rooms were good for the price and the rooftop pool was refreshing after some long hikes.

A secret Madeiran gem. This hotel was exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful service, excellent room, and the location couldnt have been handier. We stayed in a few places in Funchal. This was the best one. We are coming back!

Very clean, small but fully equipped and comfortable, next to a laundromat, great welcome snacks and drinks. Perfect stay for our last night as we dined at a beautiful restaurant nearby

No pick up at airport as arranged prior to arrival. We booked this hotel 5 months in advance and were promised a Superior Room with a balcony. Construction noise started at 7 a.m. in the morning and ended at 7 p.m.in the evening. Balcony faced, a tree and apartments next to construction location. There were other rooms available with a limited view but we were told we would need to wait to speak to a supervisor in the morning. It was after 9 p.m. at night, so we just unpacked and sat on our balcony with metal folding card table chairs and just cried. The light on the balcony was burned out which made it even worse for us. The next morning we tried to make the best of our poor choice. Positives are:the breakfast each day was good, the staff nice, and the rooftop pool lovely. This is an old hotel with limited electrical plugs and beds that need to be replaced. There is just one ceiling fan and when we tried closing the doors it was very hot and we could still hear the noise. The hotel is centrally located but search for another place. We would have cancelled and tried to find a new hotel after they told us we had a Standard Room with no balcony less than 2 weeks before our arrival. At that date we could not find a new hotel for less than 200 dollars a night in central Funchal. October is a busy time on Madeira and that was why we booked 5 months ahead of time. The management said they corrected their booking mistake after many e-mails in late September, avoid this hotel.

We had a short 3 night break, and wanted to be in the middle of the Old Town to make the most of it. Carmo was in the perfect location - 10 minute walk from everything we wanted to do! The hotel itself was brilliant too - great breakfast, comfy room, nice bar, amazing rooftop pool - and the staff were all incredibly helpful. We would definitely come back here the next time we return - but hopefully stay for longer. Thanks for the great few days Hotelk do Carmo! Cheers Adam & Mel Taylor

Its in the perfect location close to the market, the water, many restaurants, a mall and grocery stores. The staff were amazing everyone is kind and helpful. They arranged for a taxi ride to airport. Just keep in mind there is no airconditioning in the room might be difficult for you to sleep at night if you cant stand the heat but there are windows that open and a ceiling fan.

Wonderful hotel, close to the centre of town. Superb staff- always friendly and super-helpful. Great breakfasts and you can eat indoors or outdoors.

The staff are superb: helpful and friendly and always went the extra mile. Nice clean rooms, in an older building with updated bathrooms and useful little touches like USB plugs beside each bed. The rooms could use more drawer space and I wish there were more electrical plugs in the room.

Excellent hotel, good breakfasts, looks slightly dated but that's the look they are going for, comfortable bed, everything very clean, staff very friendly. Would consider returning, overall better than expected.

We chose hotel Carmo because it was cetral location,thats what we wanted. And since the arrival we didn't regret it. All you need its there,steps away. Hotel very clean,receptionists vey friendly and vey hepful. It's a 3 star hotel but the service is definately 5 stars.

Great staff, charming hotel. Lovely breakfast buffet.

Nice people, and good breakfast with cold and hot meals. Convenient location for walking around downtown Funchal and also catching airport bus. The bus stop is 3rd stop coming from airport by express bus. The hotel building is old but kept very clean, and smoking rooms are separated by solid door in the corridor. There was no AC in the room but the large room, high ceilings, and ceiling fan made 28C (82F) temperature feel not too bad. At night, the air cools down quickly in Funchal. The only problem for me was that there was no fridge in the room and I was not able to keep cold drinks.
