This was my second stay. The first last year was okay. So I decided to stay and try it again.
I was given room 210. I entered, the room, it was ice cold with only a space heater in it. This was December 7th.
I went to the front desk Jeff(?) the maintenance person was there, I told him the situation and he gave me a 2nd space heater. I asked if there was a different room available, he said no. I couple minutes later he knocked and said he had a new room. Number 104. I thanked him.
I moved my bags and settled in. Upon entering the bed, I saw the sheets had not been changed. You could tell by the portion of the bed that was not slept on AND there were a persons pubic hairs clearly on the bottom sheet.
Too tired to complain, I slept on top of the blanket in my clothes. I told myself, never again stay at this property.

Great lovation just in town center, big parking lot, great restaurant in hotel which serves Polish-American food.
Will never rent any other hotel in Lake Placid.
It is just fantastic.

This is a value priced option in Lake Placid. The building is lovely, but it is falling into disrepair. I hope the management will be able to address this before it goes too far.

Arrived at 8pm on a Friday night, no one at front desk, keys left out. Entered room to find it not cleaned. Took over an hour to get someone to help. Eventually got a second room that was clean. Many others complaining of no clean towels, tv not working, and general poor hotel conditions. Would not recommend.

Room was not clean! Half the light bulbs were blown. Outlets were scarce and not accessible. Never saw a person the entire weekend to ask any questions or get direction to even find the room. Television didn’t work and was not in the main bedroom. Felt creepy. Wallpaper was falling off the walls. Maybe with renovations it would be fine. The restaurant seemed hopping although I didn’t eat there.

Price was great , there was no staff, had to call for problem with tv, maintenance guy was fantastic.would probably stay again if we could get room on 1st floor.

Can't beat the location. 3 minute WALK to Mirror Lake and everything that Lake placid has to offer. Any properties closer to the lake are several hundred dollars more per night. The hotel is dated and there really isn't a front desk attendant but the room is clean and comfortable, and any help needed is only a phone call away where a very pleasant person will speak to you about any questions or issues.
The bathroom was nice and in good condition with a vintage, yet, updated vibe. Nice TV with Roku channels and the convenience of a great restaurant bar right on the premises. There is NO fridge or coffee maker in the room but there is an area with a coffee maker and a microwave. NO fridge. So if you need to pack a lunch then night before a long day of hiking, bring your own cooler with ice. I think this hotel is in the process of making convenient improvements so having a refrigerator or ice dispenser in the premises would be a PLUS.

The location is ok because its closed to town
However, there was no service and not even a single staff available on site in case you need anything not even front desk representative.
There was no Iron/Steamer in our room and have called them multiple times and even after 5 calls and 2 hours wait I received the faulty Iron which was of no use that wasted alot of my time

We loved this older hotel, curious what it will be like after the upcoming renovations. We hope it still has some of its old charm.

The Pines was a great stay for a few days in Lake Placid. The hotel was dated but clean and charming. Location was excellent for accessing shops and restaurants.

Our room was not made when we checked in at 8:30 PM. We were promptly upgraded, so props for that.

The Pines Inn Lake Placid is a unique property. It is located near shopping and many restaurants. Parking is easy. Check in is simple and easy. The property could use some freshening up. It is just a basic hotel room located in a historical building. My room was adequate but the closet was unfinished. Loose ceramic tile on bathroom floor. Bottom of shower curtain was black mold. Sink and shower have drainage problems. I found someone else’s hair in the shower and dead spider above bathroom door frame that someone killed and just left the dead carcass there. I only stayed 2 nights but I’d say overall the stay was ok. I needed ice but there was no ice machine. There is also no working elevator but I was advised of the elevator situation. I would stay here again but I would bring my own cleaning supplies. Bedding and towels were clean.

Very old and out dated. Pipe running through ceiling corner of room. Burnt full iron mark on rug. Hole in the comforter. Windows did not lock. Pillows thin like paper. The picture on Expedia is photoshopped to make the building look newer and vibrant than it really is now.

Mold in shower tub and curtain. Extremely old brokent cheap furnitures. No AC work. Bathroom ceiling peeling off. Sink off the wall. Shower faucet doesn't work. Dirty and sticky carpet. I CANNOT LIST THEM ALL.

We love the hotel, very peaceful, excellent outdoors space, access to lake placid, gorgeous view, and very quiet. The pool is amazing, the rooms are clean and newly renovated. Best TV , prime, Disney. One negative is that the paddle boats fins were broken, so were the seats on the kayaks. I hope the hotel updates/ maintains equipment. The canoe has both center seats broken. My daughter looked forward to going on the water and she did not, we had to rent a paddle boat in town. Other than that everything was perfect.

Great, easier if an elevator was available

Rooms were quaint and in need of repairs, mold in windows, bad odour in the room.
TV didn't work, no one works the front desk it’s all done remotely.

If a hotel check in is virtual than the systems have to be reliable. My check in was not. At 4, check in time, the lobby was packed with people waiting for check in but no keys. Fortunately, a staff member jumped in and took care of it.

We enjoyed the vintage feel of The Pines Inn, however, our TV didn't work. We appreciated a staff member coming up to try to resolve the issue , but she wasn't able to. The wifi was also very spotty. And finally, while the room seemed fairly clean, the shower curtain in the bathroom was filthy with mold and stains. That was very disappointing.

The shower curtain was very dirty in the bathroom, even though the rest of the room seemed pretty clean.
Also, the TV was very complicated and the instruction sheet was not very clear. We were grateful, however, for the willingness of the staff member to come to our room and show us how to operate it.

It was nice

The toilet in the room we were given, Room 104, is broken; it wobbles in its place over an inch in height when any weight is put on it. It was inexcusable.

It’s an old hotel and I understand the historic value. I tried to enjoy the nice antique living room-like hotel-front and walking around the nice near-lake walk. But I could not enjoy my room: the curtain was too old and too thin to cover the window, the floor above me was noisy at every step upstairs (it felt like it was bouncing and you can imagine how noisy that could be at bedtime), the peeling wall paper was a mess. I’d like to support unique hotels but this hotel was hard to appreciate and to get comfortable. Perhaps I should not complain because it was one of the lowest rates?

I’m surprised this place is allowed to be open. This scream health and safety violation. There is mold in the rooms and the bathrooms. The room had severe water damage it looked like the ceiling was going to collapse. I would highly recommend spending a few extra dollars and going to a nicer hotel. The staff was non existent. I never seen someone at front desk the whole 2 nights we stayed there

If you’re looking for a relaxing place to rest your head after a day filled with hikes and swimming in the local watering holes, the Pinewood Inn is not the spot for you.
When I arrived there was nobody at the front desk (in the two days I stayed there I did not see an employee). Keys were left in an envelope with my name and room # on it. As I traversed the stairs the smells emanating from every corner tickled my senses in the most unpleasant way.
I noticed not only the vintage decor, but also the claw marks on the second floor wallpaper. It was of a demon beast had been using this hotel as its hunting ground. Nevertheless, I continued up the stairs to my 3rd floor sanctuary (no elevator). When I arrived I was greeted with a hallway filled with old, broken chairs, a mattress in the hall, an old microwave, and an old mini fridge. I passed my room and wandered down the hall to take a further look, behind extra careful not to touch any of the exposed wires running along the hallway.
At the far end of the 3rd floor I noticed some doors that were installed leaving a 1 inch gap where I could peer inside. A glance inside that room was reminiscent of an old news broadcast I saw many years ago. It was similar looking to the scenes of abandoned and destroyed homes following Hurricane Katrina. I quickly scampered away back towards my room, noting the uncovered electric box in the hallway.
When I entered my room I was overcome with a sense of doom….to be continued.

Perfectly functional. Basically comfortable. Decent stay in every way.

As advertised. Never got my message about checking in so that waisted time trying to figure that out. The neighbors next door have a bright light so the room never got dark. The food was OK at best. There was no water for coffee either morning. There was a same were stack in my bathroom and I could tell there was significant water damage in the last few years. I do not think there is any mold issue. It was OK to sleep in for the price.

Enjoying the charm of a place built in the 1900's was an experience!

The property is under expectation for this money. The rooms were very dirty, no cleaning, no safe, no refrigerator, no fan.

This property is much better than I expected. Coming to Lake Placid with our dog, this was the perfect location really, walkable everywhere!

This place is an absolute hole!!!! Stay away at all costs and people who rated this even remotely acceptable are not being honest! It’s run down, unsafe with leaks in ceiling, mold, musty conditions that they try to mask with some deodorizer that made me sneeze nonstop. The TV was 17” at best and it didn’t work. Nasty used towel left behind and the hotel should be torn down. The service reflected the state of the hotel and it was the worst experience ever. We paid 2 nights on Expedia and left immediately and now we are trying to recover our payment. Stay away and sleep in your car or the streets before this dump!

The Pines Inn is an economical place to stay in Lake Placid. It is pretty bare-bones. The bed was a Tempurpedic so that was wonderful! Our room was on the 5th floor so we got quite the workout in the 4 days we were there as the ancient elevator may not have worked for decades :) Parking lot was convenient and always had a space despite the hotel being full.

This hotel is so run down it needs to be torn down, not renovated. Elevator didn’t work and looked like no plan to invest in repairs. Surprised it is on the hotels.com program.

This property was bare bones, self check-in and out. Never saw staff. I was facing road, so slightly noisy with main drag traffic. My neighbors above and below were loud, but mostly because there was no noise barrier....you could hear them breathe and every turn in the bed. Value was spot on, which was all i was looking for--i needed to make a quick and inexpensive visit and this property fit the bill for that. I needed a bed and a shower, this checked those boxes. It was a bonus that there is an on-site restaurant for dinner, and it was busy with folks both nights of my stay.
