This is a characterful and spacious property in a great location with fantastic views. However, the cottage is damp. We had to move from the main bedroom because of the smell. There were patches of damp/mould on the wall of the main bathroom and on the ceiling of the en-suite shower room which adjoins the master bedroom - this is a rather cramped space and features the only overhead shower in the property. The main bathroom just has a hand shower over the bath. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped but one of the control buttons on the oven was broken and stuck down with tape which made it difficult to operate. The temperature control of the fridge was also a bit erratic and needed careful adjustment to get it to work somewhere between barely cold and an ice box. Please be aware when booking that there is a self-contained Flat on the top floor of the cottage which is sometimes used by the owners. This has its own external entrance but is blocked off internally by a locked door on the landing. It was empty when we stayed so not a problem for us but could cause noise issues in either direction if occupied.

We had a wonderful time at Crow's Nest. We stayed there for a week mid August (two couples), and we found the cottage well equipped, spotlessly clean, with a nice big kitchen, a great dining room, with lots of wonderful art, comfortable beds and the best: The terrace where one could sit and look over the sea. Porlock Weir is just a short walk away, there is a pub, a hotel with a restaurant, an ice cream shop, some knick-knack shops, a cafe and a Malaysian/Chinese/English Take-Away. Everything you need except groceries, for that you need to go to Porlock proper. There is a mini-bus that takes you to Porlock and further afield (Minehead) - we could thus avoid having to move the cars which is a bit of an adventure as the parking space is very limited and maneuvering two cars into their final parking position wasn't easy. But we really did not need to drive. We hiked along the Coastal path, up the Moor and took the bus wherever possible, there is also a taxi service.
The Cottage sits up the hill surrounded by the most wonderful forest, with huge trees and ferns and mosses - this part of the English coast is meant to be a temperate rain forest and not the usual sheepscape. Beautiful. There is even a hidden fort that in the old days was guarding the harbor.
The only snags were that the cottage was a bit damp (we had to switch the heating on at times) and some of the lights were not working. Otherwise: a wonderful place. I wish we could have spent more time there. We plan to come back.

Hi
We had a wonderful stay. The cottage location is out of this world. However, we had stayed before and we mentioned cleanliness. Yes it was a bit tidier than before but I think you will find that there are numerous items clustering up every single cupboard, dresser and drawer that should be removed. The items are so old they add a musty smell to the cottage which is quite unpleasant. The trunk in the dining room is full of broken ceramics and wrapped in 20 year old paper. The are items in the cabinet in the dining room that I would not feel comfortable touching let alone using. The living room storage is similar.
The whole place needs a de- cluttering.
A loverly cottage we will return but needs these things addressing.

Crow’s Nest is a delightful and spacious cottage with stunning views across the Bristol Channel. It is perfectly positioned for fabulous walks, easy access to the amenities in Porlock village and a minute’s walk down to a welcoming pub on the quay and a restaurant.

Lovely cottage with amazing views

Excellent location with stunning views from a character cottage. Don't be put off by the reviews mentioning parking - it's a bit tight but no problem if you go steady. Many positives but if you expect a pristine environment then perhaps this cottage is not for you

Beautiful views from the cottage. well equipped kitchen. Good heating. Spacious. Lack of TLC and neglect of garden.
Drive up is steep and vehicle turnaround space is a challenge.

Cottage was in an excellent location, spacious and well equipped. It was very clean but as previous reviews have stated the house is very damp (smells). We were lucky as weather was fantastic so we could have all the windows and front door open when we were in the house. The en suite on the master bedroom has a good shower but the mildew and mould in the tiles/grouting is really off putting the whole room need desperately redoing. Overall we were happy with our stay but the good weather helped.

Fab views and position let down by Premises being dusty and musty needs a good deep clean. Only catch up TV is not very good

We were very pleased to be returning for another stay in this charming well-equipped cottage. The sea views and the setting are as lovely as ever and we had wonderful walks both from the door and from a short car ride away.
The area has pleasant pubs and many nice places for tea with delicious cakes.

The size of the property was good. The house is very cold but then it is an old cottage. Not suitable for people with asthma or mould allergies,as the house is very damp. Plaster coming off walls in sitting room. Smells very strongly of damp. Even so,we have booked to go back again next year. Not suitable for the less fit as there is a short, but very steep hill down to the hub of the village and beach.

Delightful thatched cottage with superb views overlooking the Bristol Channel. Very spacious property with a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room. Fantastic local walks and good places to eat on the doorstep. Exmoor coast is stunning. The parking wasn't too difficult with our medium sized estate car though I wouldn't like to try it with a 'Chelsea tractor' !

A warm and friendly cottage in a beautiful area. Beautiful local walks and an interesting salt marsh.

I first visited this cottage nearly sixty years ago with my parents. My husband and I returned several times with our own children .This time we came with our son and his young family. We had a wonderful holiday . They loved it so much they have booked for next year.
The views from the cottage are amazing.

Not suitable for people with asthma or other chest problems as it's a very old cottage and has some damp.

Manage your expectations. The position of the Crows Nest means there are beautiful views and sunsets to enjoy. The condition of the cottage itself is below what we would have expected; superficially it looked clean and the bed linen was fresh, but it would benefit significantly from a deep clean, there is a lot of black mold and ingrained dirt. We were not made aware of people living in the flat on the 3rd floor of the house, they were noisy at night and share the internet with the Crows Nest which reduced the signal on some evenings to the point where we could not watch TV.

Damp and not fully clean. En suite needs toilet. The damp issue caused 2 of our party to stay elsewhere.

Prime location for access to the Harbour, great views out over the sea, some very good walks just on your doorstep, property could do with a deep clean though.

The view and closeness to the sea is amazing! Going to sleep listening to the waves is perfect. Very close to the harbour, pubs and restaurants. 5 minute walk but down a very steep hill. It gets less steep on the way up by the end of the week. A small garden but perfect to sit out for breakfast or an evening drink. The house is very old and has some lovely art work and furniture. Over all a rustic retreat with all you need.

What a gem of a cottage, bigger than photos depict and really cosy and warm and views of the Bristol Channel from every room. Everything you could need in the kitchen. Perfect location!

The cottage was lovely and the view amazing. For such a large cottage, it was always very warm and cozy.
As mentioned by others, all aspects of the car parking area is challenging - both getting in and out. Not sure how a big car would manage it. That said it didn't ruin our stay - the view more than made up for it!

Lovely location and beautiful views of the Bristol Channel! There are great walks and places to visit in the area. The house was amazing but it smelt a bit musty. Overall, would definitely recommend!

Lovely location. Garden a little small for a medium to large dog but this is offset by woods close by. The cottage is dog friendly and well set up for a comfortable stay

Period furniture, unusual curios, lots of cupboards to explore and a great view made this a fantastic stay.
The bits that needed to be clean were lovely and clean, and the dust in other parts really added to the vibe of being in a period house.
Fully equipped kitchen and the dishwasher was very welcome.
Definitely planning to return for another stay!

We enjoyed a wonderful week at Crow's Nest much helped by glorious weather and stunning views. It was very special to be able to walk into woodland within 50 metres of the drive. We would love to return again.

Lovely old house in great location. House itself could do with some updating, lumpy mattresses, noisy bathroom fan.

A wonderful break in a beautiful setting. The cottage is like stepping back in time. The bedding, kitchen utensils, towels etc were spotless. The property itself has kept it's rustic charm, complete with wonky floorboards! I would have loved to have known some history about the cottage as despite trawling the internet, I couldn't find out anything. We will be taking away lots of lovely memories from our weekend and it will be a lovely place to mentally escape to once back at work and the day to day stresses of life. Well worth a visit and if you like rustic charm, it's the place for you!

This is a wonderful place to stay any time of year, we have had two breaks in the winter and it's perfect for sea watching on a stormy day!!
Lovely, warm and cosy.

The comfortable cottage is in an excellent situation with glorious views. There are a multitude of lovely walks near by as long as you don't mind going up a few hills. An unspoilt area of England.
