The location.

The host has good intentions but some of the comforts that North Americans expect were absent or unsuitable. For example, we expect two sheets, one on the mattress, and one to sleep under, plus a blanket. Two smaller pillows should be there instead of a single large one. Also, the bathroom was an unacceptable renovation with old , worn, crumbling wall finishing. The towels were also old and cheap. The kitchen was just ok and should supply coffee and a coffee maker. The steps going down to the basement were hazardous for anyone, like me, over 65. Parking was good. There needs to be written instructions to use the tv and channels.

Nothing it was smelling with cigarettes and bedbugs

No soap, bedbugs, smelling Tabacco cigar, old uncleaned towels. My deposit was not returned.

The owner was very friendly and it was affordable

There wasn't any AC in our suite #3, the fridge and TV were off or not working. Also noticed some insects in the kitchen, there was a bottle of insecticide there but still made us wonder. The latch on the door for the room was also sensitive, have to carefully line it up with the door frame. We left early due to my friend having trouble sleeping with the room temperature.

Everything was clean by the appartment is old and need a refresh.

Its not at all as the picture.Please kindly see the rooms and put the listings in such a recommended app like yours..it said for $70 something and now it charged me like &159.what the hell was that. I need a refund of the balance amount

The room doesn’t have air conditioning,the washroom was like a hell.there was someone using the washroom just before i checked in.Because there was some body washes and shampoos which was half used and opened.and not at all clean.The room doesn’t even have a lock.

Private room. Owner was friendly and recommended things to see and nearby restaurants. He asked questions to make better recommendations. There was a window ac unit that did the job. Smart tv with youtube was convinient. Despite being old and rag tag renovated, there wasn't any mold. Smelled clean.

The fridge was off and smelled gross. Lots of sketchy worn out elements like window screens, loose shower heads. There was dishes left to dry on the rack from previous customers and the cleaning rag wash wet and bunched up in the sink. There was some bugs in the unit. The door wasn't really soundproof, the stairs are very noisy and creaky, could here other renters going up and down with their luggage. The neighborhood felt a bit unsafe at night, but so did the whole city and downtown.

The host was very friendly and helpful and agreed to refund me part of my booking fees.

The room was very outdated. There were issues with the room I had booked so I was moved to another room. I could not open any windows even though there was a balcony. It was also very noisy and I found it very difficult to sleep.

I really enjoyed the owner he was so nice and the bed was so comfortable.

A/C is needing in the hot sun

Everything is horrible about the place. The picture does not show the true reflection of the room. The pipes for flushing from the upper rooms passed through the room. The bath is just terrible. The place looked like a room in a war torned country. The heater is not properly placed, I don't wish my enemy stay in the room. A room in the correctional centre is far better than this place. I don't know how booking.com accepted this for someone to live . 142 maryland homestay is nothing to write home about.

I like nothing about the place. What is bad is bad by all standard. The room is unnecessarily cold. You will fall sick when you enter inside the room.

This is an excellent place to stay for various reasons listed below. 1) The proximity to the downtown area and its amenities such as coffee shops, restaurants, banks, The University of Winnipeg, which is just a stone throw away from the host's guest house location and the bus links which makes it easy to travel and explore other towns and areas outside the guest house location (go to the local post office to get your weekly pass) 2)The guest house also offers parking facilities for those with cars. 3) The inhouse facilities at this guesthouse offer convenience, privacy and the comforts of home such as your own (nonshared) bathroom/shower, toilet, electric cooker, toaster, kettle, microwave, coffee maker, fridge and freezer, cupboards stocked with crockery, cutlery and all your home cooking and dining needs, saving you quite an expensive bill on take aways and take outs. 4) if you are looking for a fancy hotel, the best advise is be prepared to fork out at least $189 per night at a fancy hotel. This is a very descent, practical, safe and homely neighbourhood environment. The space is enough to meet all your needs. There is also a tv set in the suite at no additional cost. 5) The local grocery store is within walking distance and so is the bus stop. 6) The host is very respectful, humble and kind and went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable. He is always inquiring of the needs of his guests (as I also overheard this with the guest above us). He respects your privacy too and will do his best to ensure your comfort. Not even the $189 fancy hotel can offer the level of convenience and comforts of this guest house. The last piece of advise is just be reasonable with the bargain price of this guest house with all it has to offer in comparison to the likely expectations of a $189 fancy hotel at a fraction of the price without half the amenities. The beds are comfortable too!

The Host was super nice. The suite I stayed in was well kept.

The shampoo bottle could have been replaced because it seemed like the previous user must’ve accidentally filled it with water, also the bathroom garbage can could’ve been changed since it was filled to the brim.

Best value

The host is super nice, accommodated my wishes of an earlier arrival, brought tea, checked in with me, offered a late check-out and helped carry my luggage. Internet is good and the mattress makes for a good night sleep.

The place is large except for the bathroom, it seems like the heating is not working very well, but it wasn't freezing. The kitchen, bathroom and chairs could have been cleaner.
