Alles is echt top!

The location is flawless in the heart of the historic Hutongs, as is the beautiful design and aesthetic. Two very sweet cats have free rein, which is cute if you’re a cat lover (although one did try and get in our room a few times!). We loved the onsite bakery and cocktails in the bar were a real treat. Breakfast was good and plentiful, but we didn’t get to enjoy the Cantonese breakfast fully as not much was available during our stay. The showers were hot too, which is essential when it’s so cold out!
The absolute highlight of our stay was the hike we did on a section of the wild / unrestored Great Wall; which the staff at the orchid organised for us. It wasn’t particularly cheap, but we felt great value as it included our guide, driver and lunch. We did a section from Jianku, ask for Peter as your guide, you will not regret it!
Our room was *very* small and there wasn’t any space to store our things; I think the photos on booking.com may need updating. We didn’t find the staff to be particularly attentive (apart from organising our hike). For a four star hotel - and for the price point (one of the most expensive stays in our whole trip) I would’ve expected some little extras / tips on the local area etc.

A beautiful and stylish peaceful oasis in an old Hutong - a maze of alleyways - part of old Beijing. Close to history, lots of great eating and drinking options nearby. The onsite breakfast restaurant 'toast' - was excellent. The M.C. Escher like steps and rooftops provide views across the Hutong to the historic drum and bell towers. Super-comfortable bed, clean and fresh room, beautifully scented. Fresh fruit, water and tea provided. Most comfortable. All in all a great spot. Unique and well designed and executed. Good very useful info provided for forgein visitors. Helpful in arranging cars/ drivers. Staff speak good English.
I was in room 2 which is tasteful and lovely, with a skylit section ( but possible to blackout); but it was below the'toast' restaurant kitchen, so from around 630am early morning banging and cooking sounds did intrude on my rest. Also low hot water pressure. Private car and driver arranged for day to take us to Great Wall, some very unnecessary stress from staff when we were running little late in the morning for our own car ! Good driver through.

The Orchid is exceptional. The staff are super helpful - Kate helped us book many sites that were almost impossible to do as a foreigner, and also recommended restaurants and was very supportive with booking taxis or any means of transport. The location is great, very close to many buses and metro station, and very easy to get to.
The facilities are wonderful, it feels like an oasis in the middle of Beijing. And our room was so big, pretty and comfortable...
Last but not least, the breakfast was AMAZING. I could not have enough of the French toast and latte... They had local and continental options to choose from every morning. I also recommend the Cantonese restaurant on the same road, delicious food! I would definitely come back to the Orchid at some point in my life!
Nothing to be honest.

We had the perfect stay. It was our first time in Beijing (or China in general) and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful! They were all super friendly and chatty, really the best! They helped with finding restaurants etc and even called different cinemas to find a movie that we wanted to watch with subtitles. The staff was the best!
Besides that, the breakfast offered was absolutely amazing, with Western and Cantonese options in two different restaurants! And the Cafe inside the hotel had the best cookies!
The bed inside the room was big and comfortable, the bathroom was perfect!
The location was great too, with a super lively shopping (food and other stuff) street only a five minute walk away!

Fabulous ladies on the reception. They made all the difference. They spoke excellent English and were so helpful and friendly. The cats were gorgeous too! The food and drink options were great- Toast was our favourite hotel restaurant with tasty Middle Eastern food and wonderful breakfast options. We loved eating breakfast on the roof terrace and had a couple of cocktails in the bar. The location was perfect- in the traditional, charming hutong zone, near the metro and with plenty of leafy, shaded streets nearby to go shopping or eat and drink. Would definitely recommend.
Our bed was up a narrow flight of stairs and the mattress was on the ground. This was fine for us but could be tricky if you are old or have a bad back!

Traditional Beijing style accommodation in the old part of the town. The receptionists were friendly. The police were efficient.
We chose this hotel as traditional Beijing living experiences for our children. We booked three rooms in total for our family and friends family. All was well until our friend left her two rings roughly worth €20k on the table in her room before we left for Universal studios. We rang the hotel to check before we came back and they confirmed that they didn’t see the rings during the room cleaning and they also sent in a staff to check after our call and still no rings were found. We then searched for the rings in the room ourselves with no luck and not a lot help from the hotel. we then decided to call the police. The police arrived within 5 mins and we basically stayed in the police station for the night. During the investigation we found that the hotel manager had withheld the critical information about the staff they sent to the room to check for the rings initially as a result he was not called in to the police station that evening, and the police found out about him after watching the full security footage until the next day. Let’s just say the rings were never found again. And that had left us with a bad taste of the whole trip to Beijing.

The courtyard hotel felt very private because of the complex layout of the rooms - my rooms are all separate from the others and have private outdoor space. The breakfast was really fantastic also, and the staff were very helpful with booking taxis and making suggestions.
It was a little challenging to find even though the staff provided a great map over email before I arrived. Maybe adding a note to the map about some landmarks since the hutong names were not always easy to see?

Really friendly and helpful staff, making you feel welcome. Most staff speak good English. The bed is amazing. Filtered water is provided. Right next to a modern Cantonese restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant, convenient for dining if feeling lazy.
No fridge, no safe, no sunlight. Not enough storage room. Our garden room had a moisture problem and we had to run the dehumidifier most of the time. TV has only 7 channels and terrible reception.

The place was really lovely it’s a perfect location and the food is great. The staff looks out for you and when I was lost a staff member got on his bike and came to find me. He was a life saver!
I don’t like that breakfast closes at 10 or else you have to pay. I called at 10:10 to order breakfast and I was excited to have it and I missed it.

Charming hotel in a traditional Hutong with courtyard and terraces. Breakfast in the veranda on the roof was great.
As it is to be expected in a Hutong, there is not a lot of light in the rooms. So I would recommend it for 1-2 nights but not for a longer stay. The modification/cancellation policy is too strict, with some unclarities in the messages showing in the booking platform.

an oasis within a houtong, calm and serene , away from the constant traffic and dusty streets
very comfortable beds , fluffy towels , robes and little touches like a bottomless fruit bowl and fresh drinking water in the room
our first room didn’t have a window , only a skylight which I normally wouldn’t mind but the heating was still running which made it too warm for me to sleep in. my husband was fine with it ! personal preference to have more fresh air which is what I’m used to
they facilitated a change of room with no bother even though they were fully booked

The hotel is gorgeous and right in the middle of the lovely old hutong in downtown Beijing. Two friendly hotel cats and a beautiful room with a skylight. Loved it! Staff is wonderful, beautiful breakfast included in the rate. Really lovely.
Unfortunately, my room was positioned right under the kitchen of the restaurant upstairs and there was a lot of noise for a very long time, until about 2:00 am. I complained a couple of times and the staff were wonderful with trying to get the noise down but because of the location and the necessity of cooking and cleaning the kitchen it just wasn't possible to get it quiet enough to get to sleep. The manager approached me the next morning and offered me a free night's stay as compensation for my sleepless night. I was very grateful and accepted this gesture happily as my friends had stayed in other rooms and had no problem with noise so I will return another day and stay in a different room. I'm more than sure it will be an outstanding experience.

The bed was the best bed I have ever slept in to include my own. The breakfast at Toast was delicious, and the staff was extremely helpful. I also loved the neighborhood. The setting was very authentic .
There was nothing I didn't like

The staff of this hotel is among the friendliest I have met on my trips abroad. Li Fan (aka John), Jack, Gaby, Kate, thank you for what you are. As for the hotel: wonderful location, in the middle of the hutongs, couldn't have wished for more.
Room 67 was great but for the bed. Sorry to say, the mattress was truly abominable, a slab of dented foam smack on the floor, terrible. Mattresses must be able to ventilate, but if the mattress is lying flat on the floor, body heat and moisture have nowhere to go. Extremely unhygienic.

staff are super helpful. orchid is linked to great places to eat eg toast and the bake shop. great ambiance. excellent location for exploring.
we had the garden rooms were lacked privacy - wasn’t a problem for us as we only spent two nights but of staying longer you should take a more private room.

The Orchid is one of the few remaining charming hutong hotels in Beijing. The rooms are designed and decorated with a lot of thoughts and heart, very clean too. The management pays a lot of attention to details. The rooftop restaurant is delicious and with a wonderful view towards the bell tower. They have a nice reception area, a hutong on the ground floor and even one room with a personal terrace. Staying there makes you feel like in the old time of Beijing. You do not feel the noise and stress of the city and there are so many nice bars and restaurants around. Most of the staff speaks very well English, in particular at the reception. They all are extremely caring and friendly, all very good hosts- at the forefront is Gaby to be mentioned-
None!

—Nice and quiet place in a heart of BJ.
—Staff is English speaking and very friendly, helps a lot and guides on neighborhood facilities.
—Cool breakfast (even with multiple options, haha)
Our room was under the kitchen so 7:30AM I can clearly hear how something is chopping upstairs. But it is a minor thing
