The furnishing was good and the bed was comfy. There was a park at the entrance for children and the nearby stream had eels that kids would also enjoy. About 1Km walk to Sprig & Fern restaurant which was handy. Location would also suit many as it was right next to a railway station that went to Wellington CBD (and access for business or the cableway to the Botanical Gardens). The motorway to Wellington (8 mins) was also very close. The Botanical Gardens and especially Picnic Cafe are worth a go - very nice food and good service.

When we arrived the manager was "frazzled" - it was obvious she was cleaning the rooms on her own. That's not the reason for the score There was a clue to an ongoing issue - this was the first place i've stayed (in 50 years of extensive travel) where ear plugs were provided! After the first night, the manager kept apologising for the noise from upstairs (the manager's quarters). She knew the issue. The guy in the unit next door refused to stay another night in that room - and I suspect this is a very common issue. She did her best but was not at fault - the lack of insulation in the ceiling was. We could hear every step and word spoken upstairs. Quiet at night (other than trains which we are used to) but could be noisy during the day. Had to ask for cereal bowls and we noted other crockery was missing as well. Pity, for the room wasn't bad at all. Oh, and the shower head came off when I adjusted it (pushed back on OK and worked fine after that). Without the noise issue and 8 would have been given.
