My friend paid the same price as me and had a balcony and wonderful sea views, I couldn’t even see out of my my sea view window because it was too dirty, I’ve stayed here twice before but never again

Bits need updating all in all not a bad one night stay.

Excellent hotel, lovely rooms, good staff, incredible value.

I agree with some other reviews I read before we arrived about how tired the hotel was, I thought what do you expect with an old lady like the Cavendish.
The room was big, single beds as requested, a 3 seater sofa, 2 arm chairs, chair and desk, chest of drawers and wardrobe (some hotels don’t even supply that), what luxury for us.
The food was great both morning and evening, hot and appetising.
I already had a discount on the price, but other discounts were offered which made all the difference.
I had to take little doggie out through the night due to him having water tablets, this was no problem and everyone I met day or night were very polite and professional.

A low budget hotel with limited staff and facilities however the staff were helpful and friendly. The balcony access is through a sash window with dodgy high steps through. Only two pillows in a double occupancy room but I was informed, if I went down to reception you could get extra.
Breakfast was do it yourself but it was hot and sufficient. Check out was 10.00 am by dropping the keys in.

Comfortable ,clean , highly recommend.

Positives:
- A very inviting reception area.
- Impressive guest lounges with comfortable seating.
- Central location on seafront.
- Helpful and attentive staff.
- Spacious corridors.
- Well decorated and clean bathroom.
- Comfortable bed, giving quite a good night's sleep.
Negatives:
- Poor lighting in room - bizarrely, the ceiling had been lowered so that strip lighting was hidden away at the edge of the room and virtually ineffective; the only other light was a desk lamp, which hardly gave any light to the room itself.
- More attention needs to be paid to cleaning carpet around bed.
- The room was located directly above what appears to be the ventilation for the kitchen. This came on at 6.30am and then again in the evening; even with secondary glazing, it caused some disturbance.
- Disturbance from creaky floorboards of room above.
- No wi-fi (totally unacceptable).
- Poor selection of Freeview channels on TV.
- A little 'tight' with toilet paper and tubes of shower gel & shampoo.

Amazing value and really comfortable room. Paid less for a windowless room but had two instead! Stayed a few times. Very central

😋 Great location. A smart old fashioned hotel.

Stayed in a single room. Spacious and had a mini fridge, which was excellent as I could get fresh milk for my tea and coffee and also keep snacks and chocolate cold in the hot weather. It was greatly appreciated.

Get there at 2:30 told to come back at 3 without even checking if room was ready. Room was rank, smelly and very very old. Bathroom ok. Furniture rotten. Didn’t want to look at the very soft mattress. They tried to upgrade me for £15 and took £8 for parking. Location ok. Needs a major upgrade all round. Carpets dirty, rubbish and dirty mirrors in lift etc. just not nice at all.

The Cavendish is a perfectly decent hotel. I Think it has previously had a poor reputation, but various family members and i have stayed there several times over the last couple of years and have never had any complaints. It's also very good value for money, possibly because of the previous reputation. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good value stay in Eastbourne.

Decent for price. Can’t complain.

Poor quality sea view room. Do not stay here

The room was really hot and no way of adjusting Outer windows in need of attention and bathroom grouting loose. Otherwise the room was clean and food good.

Property is a little dated, but obviously it was grand in it's prime. Friendly staff and very accommodating. Beautiful area and scenery. Hoe ever I don't suppose in this climate they have a spare couple of millions to get the place back to it's glorious prime and if I'm being honest I have stayed in much worse

Good room but decor and cleanliness poor. Just look at windowsills, dirty, and flaking paint.
At breakfast staff brusque, and tablecloths need wash and iron.

The single room sea view i booked was infact £40 dearer and overlooked the car park. One pillow for the bed. No housekeeping. Toiletries and refreshments had to be got from reception. The one time i went into the bar the bartender seemed unbothered i was waiting to be served and whilst he was pouring my drink i saw an ant crawling over the bar. Yes its an older building but it needs what facilities it does have looked at.

My grave misgivings re certain Britannia Hotel policies have been aired before - the new problem, this time around, was a "fan" blasting cold air, built into the ceiling, whose existence the maintenance (sic) staff seemed completely surprised me. (The man who visited the room didn't seem to have a clue how it worked - e.g what switches did, why there was an electrical panel in it etc).
I'm the sort of person who actually prefers "box rooms", and I've come to expect noisy neighbours in Eastbourne - but uncontrollable cold air is a "new low".

Absolutely shocking I booked 2 night stay but after first night I just wanted to leave. The room was so old, smell of urine very old and dated. The night was unbearably hot with a small old fan blowing hot air couldn’t sleep all night.
The property is very very dated with ceiling cracks and damp everywhere. Never use this again.

Booked a room with a double bed but what we got was a double bed with 2 single mattress pushed together so if you wanted to snuggle up someone was on the edge of both mattress with no springs, not a very good sleep at all the breakfast wasn’t that bad although not good enough that we bothered to have evening meal because the restaurant closed at 8pm and that’s far too early after you’ve been out all day and want to freshen up. the room was dated and in bad need of a deep clean and redecoration as it smelt a bit musty it’s such a shame as this could be a jewel in the crown if they just invest a little more money, front desk staff were pleasant and helpful but the restaurant staff were curt and very short with any assistance or questions
I wouldn’t stay here again in its current form

The Hotel is super old. Everything is very worn out and there is no air conditioning. On the day of the check in, the room is extremely hot and stuffy. The hotel stuff is willing to provide an extra ventilation fan which is small and works like a toy. After staying in the room for 10 minutes, the temperature inside the room is beyond any human being could bear. Under such circumstances, a change of room is requested to the front desk and downgrade to a non seaview room will be accepted. However, the manager and the front desk staff reassign another room and ask us to have a look. the room number is 123. The room is super big and is like a family suite, But it is also look like a haunted house in the Hollywood movie, After staying in that room for 2 minutes, we have decided to check out. Meaning we did not stay in that hotel at all. Will never never book such kind of Victorian era hotels again.

Good size clean room with comfy beds.

This is an impressive hotel right on the sea front. Unlike some of the others the outside was well painted and presentable.
I gave up trying to get an evening meal at the restaurant as it was mostly not open and nothing was displayed to tell us when it would actually be open.
The lift is in some serious need of some TLC as it kept on breaking down, although there is a service lift that can be used. That was a fun experience!
The room was larger than I expected and, thankfully, quiet. The bathroom was a good size. The only problem was that the was far too hot. This is something out of the control of the hotel and they did provide an electric fan.
The staff were friendly and helpful. They printed out the order of play for the tennis tournament, which was very useful.

Enjoyed a deep bath and large room with easy chairs. Saw the moon rising over the sea. Car parking, however, is limited.

We found the hotel was convenient for the tennis at Devonshire Park. It had lovely views over the seafront. The condition of the hotel was a bit dilapidated although there were building works going on, I assume to update it. We found the Reception staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was old fashioned and enormous. The bathroom and shower were ok. The pillows were too hard and neither of us slept well. The bed was clean though.

A bit tired looking generally but room was great albeit expensive.
Service was poor with no bar or lounge to get even a coffee when we arrived. They sent us up the town to get one.

There was no tea coffee facilities but there was a kettle ,what's the point we both tripped over the step going to the bathroom and the biggest was finding the room was a pain
