It needs a little tlc.

Beautiful building and grounds. Receptionist was very friendly and pleasant.
Lots of dusty corners and tired decor. Evening meal was nice food but a bit overpriced for what it was.

pictures does not do it justice - this place is unique! very cosy and so regal. the gardens are magical.
might be a bit scruffy in the corners, but it is a old building, so everything just adds to the feeling of glorious olden days - and I felt like a princess in the giant bed.
the place itself is worth every penny, so when the food also turns out to be fabulous, it adds to the pure joy.
do yourself a favor and get the room including breakfast and dinner - worth it all, and great value for money.
hope to return again - for more days of just soaking up the place.
thank you!
if you are a clean-freak, or very fussy - then your attitude will ruin your stay - take it for what it is - an old place, but so well thought about and the important parts as bedding and bathroom are very nice and clean.

We love the hotel. It is a beautiful old house within a glorious setting. Gary gave us the warmest of welcomes and was attentive to all our needs. He added a real quality to our stay with his cheerfulness, humor, and knowledge. The rest of the staff were great too. Our rooms were beautiful and the food delicious.

Stunning location and very charming character. Absolutley beautiful setting with stunning walks. probably best location I’ve been to in Scotland for peace and quiet! The food was beautiful too, served well presented. Staff made up a special table for us in a seperate room as we had a dog with us, which I thought was very attentive of them and a nice touch.
wasn’t the cleanest, one of our towels was stained and there was dog hair all over our floor from a previous tenant. also a few maintenance issues like many light bulbs burnt out. but even this didn’t spoil our experience as the charm of the place shone through.

very nice atmosphere like from some kind cartoon very relaxing stay in middle of nowhere

My better half was completely enchanted with this hotel and its stunning location on the end of a peninsula overlooking Loch Awe. Once owned by the aristocracy, the mansion style building was full of antiques, portraits and tapestries with the large rooms named after various Lochs. The staff were excellent and gave us a brief history of the hotel and the grounds surrounding it. Lovely walks take you through woodlands with red squirrels and deer as well as walking the banks of the Loch. We were made to feel like nobility and will have to return for a much longer stay.
Having to leave after a one night only stay... No negative comment would be appropriate for this hotel.

It’s a grade 2 listed building that retains all the character and personality of a bygone age
nothing

Breakfast was excellent. The location is hard to get to, but we had read there were pot holes on the road, but the road had been resurfaced and was in excellent shape.
The fire alarm not going off in the middle of the night. With the alarm, better communication while we were outside would have been good. It would be nice if the walled garden had better maintenance.

Wonderful setting on the edge of the loch
Excellent, attentive staff
Massive, comfortable bed.
Food good.
Excellent staff
Relaxed, old style comfort and grandeur
Very remote, at the end of a very long single track road.
Fixtures and fittings very tired. Antique furniture etc not a problem but loose taps, toilet seats, broken balustrade etc need a little maintenance.
The grounds, although beautiful, lacked maintenance. Abandoned tennis courts, fallen down walled gardens gave off an unloved and neglected feel. Could be magnificent if a little money invested (which I understand is not an easy thing in the current climate).

The house which in itself is already stunningly located by Loch Awe additionally sits on grounds with breathtaking old tree population. Some of the non endemic trees are over 200 years old, which is absolutely impressive when you think about how they were brought to Scotland in those old times. Davie, the gardener, has created a masterpiece on these grounds, also with adding beautiful and playful personal touches which you can joyfully explore for hours! Chris on the other hand, is not only a highly skilled barkeeper with deep knowledge of whisky but also a connaisseur of tea from all over the world! He made us feel exceptionally welcome.

Breakfast was fine. No fresh berries only fruit salad and very sweet muesli.
The building was very tired, windows needed painted inside and out and cleaned. Bin wasn’t emptied from previous customer and towels were dirty. Plaster of wall in bathroom and poorly painted. The whole interior was dirty and tired the curtains in main sitting room were full of holes. The upholstery in dining and sitting room were old and done. Walls were dirty in dining room and all table tops were stained.

absolutely fabulous old house with tremendous character and history. beautiful welcoming hall way with toys for the dog, wellington boots scented candles and a nu intrusive work area for reception, so welcoming. beautiful well laid out for privacy and congeniality drawing room with the most fabulous polished floor and antiques and a hint of beeswax. great interesting artwork…study carefully. lovely old signs on doors such as ladies powder room and drying room and telephone room.
it’s not that I didn’t like anything because I truly didn’t want to leave this place, I am in fact reluctant to share this secret hides hole but they need the visitors . to be truthful the ladies powder room needs a facelift. sorry team x

This is in a stunning location. Its not easy to find or get to and we used it as a relaxing overnight. But it would also be an excellent base for touring this area. It is an old Scottish mansion - dark corridors, creaking doors etc. But that adds to the atmosphere.

The food was lovely, the grounds are gorgeous,it has a lovely, calm atmosphere. The house is beautiful.
It felt a bit in need of TLC .The water is brown from the peat in the loch but I've not had that in any other lochside hotels . Id have loved the fire to be lit in the bar on an evening,

Great character. Lovely grounds and setting. Good food and restful lounge!
Shame the blue-green algae in the Loch curtailed our dog walks to a degree.

The surroundings are beautiful. The hotel itself looks magnificent - from the outside.
It’s very rundown and our room was unclean. The hotel needs serious investment to bring it up up the standard it purports to be. A very disappointing stay. Feel sorry for the staff.

Loved where it is located. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed a fine pot of tea on the lawn with a marvellous view across the Loch on arrival. The staff were warm , friendly and welcoming. They put us at ease saying : Just take your time. . The food was excellent and our bed was comfortable with a lovely bath en suite. We will definitely stay longer the next time. I hope we are as lucky with the weather !
