About this castle / palace rental

The Castle has views! Wake in the morning to the sunrise views of the lake, have coffee on the veranda, or have breakfast with a view from the dining room. Relax with a book on the daybed with yet another view. The Rock-Ola Jukebox with 100 CDs and amazing sound takes entertaining and family connection to a new level. Enjoy while preparing meals. The foosball and arcade provide another level of fun. Video available upon request. After a day of hiking or skiing, soak in the jetted tub & sip a glass of wine. Pamper yourself with Essential Oils during your stay with the diffusers located throughout the home. AC is available for additional comfort in the summer. For a more natural cooling experience in the evenings, a Quiet Cool system is installed and pulls in the cool evening air while eliminating the warmer air. The Castle sleeps 8 (2870 sf) with 5 sleeping areas described in the listing as Bedrooms 1-4 including a loft. Three bedrooms are on the main floor (no stairs to access). The 4th sleeping space is on the upper level and includes bunk beds, 2 twin floor mattresses, and a Foosball table. On the same level is a full bathroom, living room, dining room, kitchen, and veranda. The living room has a daybed as another option for sleeping. The loft is above the upper level and has a futon and an Arcade with hundreds of games. All levels have panoramic views of the lake. Guests have commented that you have to experience the views in person - the pictures don’t do it justice. The Castle is located at the end of the street at a cul-de-sac. It sits apart from neighbors on either side with just trees on the end. The Tudor House is about a mile away and provides dining and entertainment. About the Area: Lake Arrowhead, Lake Gregory, and Big Bear Lake are recreational lakes in the Southern California San Bernardino mountains. They offer fresh crisp air, cooler weather (10-15 degrees) in the summer, and snow in the winter. They also offer a more relaxed and low-key energy “vibe” making them ideal locations for getaways to renew the mind, spirit, and body and to reconnect with family and friends. We answer frequent questions regarding the lakes and have put together some information below on what makes each location unique so it is easier to match with your specific goals for your time away. Upon booking one of our properties, you will receive more detailed information on how you can spend your time in the area. Big Bear Lake is a public lake and friendly to all types of boats and water sports and is the largest lake of the three. There is a short paved bike and walking trail that goes along the lake. Big Bear is a City and is more populated with stores, restaurants, and nightlife than the other two locations. It has more of a “desert” feel in terms of its topography. Big Bear is 26 miles up the mountain from Lake Arrowhead, Although none of our properties are in Big Bear, we recommend it for a day trip. Lake Arrowhead is a private lake and is accessible to guests staying at properties with lake rights if the owners have permitted for guests to use their ALA (Arrowhead Lake Association) passes. If this is the case, the Amenity “lake access” will be checked on the listing. In our list of properties, the Gingerbread Cottage is providing lake access. With lake access, specifically, the lake trail is accessible. There is a $10 per person per day fee that is required to be paid to receive a wristband for access. More information can be found on the ALA website. Swimming is allowed from the lake trail at any location except the beach clubs (these are restricted to owners). There is no ability to launch boats or SUPs on the lake. The Village is lakefront and is the main area for shops and restaurants and has a fitness center as well. The Queen boat is a tour boat on Lake Arrowhead that provides much of the history of the town - tickets can be purchased at the shop by the lake. There is a local company that offers water skiing lessons boat tours and rentals. This area has more of a small town and alpine feel to it. The Villas area (south side of the lake) in Lake Arrowhead is cooler and gets more snow that lasts longer than the north side of the lake which gets more sun in the winter and is hotter in the summer. The Villas area is an older area with older homes and narrower streets. The Tudor House is an event center offering Sunday brunch and a variety of events. Skypark is a local attraction as well as Snow Valley for skiing for both Lake Arrowhead and Lake Gregory. Lake Arrowhead is 15 minutes up the mountain from Lake Gregory. Lake Gregory is a public lake in the town of Crestline, a small town about 20 minutes from the base of the mountain of San Bernardino. It is the closest mountain town to events and locations “down the hill”. In the past few years, the lake operations have become privately managed with significant improvements being done at the lake including the development of a water park, beach improvements, and boat, kayak, and canoe rentals. There is a fee to access the beach area and the water park and no fee to access the 2 1/2 mile trail around the lake. Fishing is allowed and more info can be found on the Lake Gregory website. Crestline has a small-town alpine feel with the lake nestled amongst the tall trees. Crestline gets less snow than the other 2 lake locations. The quaint town has restaurants, coffee shops, and thrift stores. Twin Peaks/Blue Jay sits in between Crestline and Lake Arrowhead and is convenient to both lakes. It has its restaurants, shops, and thrift stores. It is famous for its outdoor farmer’s market on Thursday afternoons (seasonal).
To make this property affordable and reasonable for small groups there is an extra guest fee of $15 per person after 2 people.

Age minimum is 25 (families with kids welcome).

Parking is for 3 cars or 4 small cars; there is EV charging capability with a NEMA-14 outlet - you will need to bring your own cable.

The 4th bedroom (bunkbed/game room) is open to rest of the living space (no door) and has a closet.

This house had the best views of the lake and forrest from both levels. The beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is large with everything you need. Sky Park at Santa's Village is less than 10 minutes away and fun for the whole family. They have a bike park (lots of fun), hiking, a climbing wall, archery, axe throwing, and more. We were there after Memorial Day and there were very few people there. Big Bear Lake is about a 40 minute drive and you can rent a boat there. Also, lots of hiking/biking trails. Lake Arrowhead village is a 5 minute drive (>1 hour walking downhill) and there is a grocery store, shopping and restaurants on the waterfront. We had a great trip!

The house is great with lots of entertainment options for kids! We had an issue that came up and I was very impressed with how Lisa and her team handled it - they were very attentive and went over-the-top with providing solutions. Great house and great team, will definitely recommend!

We hit a few snags but overall my family was very happy with our 3 night stay. The location is great and there are many comfy spots to relax and take in the views. The TV and gas fireplaces were perfect, the living room comfortably seated 6, kitchen and dining area are huge and well-appointed and the downstairs beds were comfortable. Early check-in/late check-out, when available, costs extra. Online check-in is the most thorough I have experienced, requiring uploading a selfie and providing licence plate number(s) before receiving your access code. I'd recommend this for 1-2 compact to midsized car(s) because parking was extremely tight with our Tundra. I also recommend making sure you can turn on the tub faucet before you're cold, tired and ready for your soak. I messaged the owner with a few issues and she was very helpful.

The view of the lake is absolutely stunning, especially during sunrise and sunset. The house was fantastic and was a cozy abode to spend during this winter.

We had three adult couples for a 4 night/5 day stay in early/mid December. Booking, check-in and communication were very smooth and the description of the place is accurate. The two bedrooms with lake views had king size beds and adjoining bathrooms. The "main" bathroom has a jacuzzi tub with handheld shower head (not wall mounted). The other downstairs bathroom (as described) also has access from the hallway. The third bedroom has a queen-size bed and no adjoining bathroom. We were originally going to share the second downstairs bathroom but ended up using the full bathroom upstairs for the third bedroom since it was just as easy. The full bathroom upstairs is large with a glass shower. The views are gorgeous. Full lake views from the dining room, living room and deck as well as two of the bedrooms. We spent most evenings at the dining table playing games and doing puzzles but could just as comfortably sat in the living room watching movies in front of the fireplace. The kitchen had everything we needed. The only issue was that the water took awhile to get hot, which is understandable in a mountain home during winter. We easily parked two mid-size suvs in the garage and one sedan in the driveway. The driveway is short and fairly steep so it could be a challenge to pull out if it was snowy or icy but we had crisp sunshine and didn't have any problems. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and are discussing coming back next year at about the same time.
