About this cabin rental
Cabin Bascom - New openings, book now!
Located less than 1/2 mile to downtown Highlands, we invite you to experience our quaint retreat at the head of the Greenway Trail and steps away from the Bascom Arts Center.
This thoughtfully renovated 2 bedroom/2 bath cabin features a designer kitchen fitted with granite, walnut, and stainless steel. The open floor plan encourages great times with family, friends or that special someone.
A well appointed master suite is centered around an impressive double sided, tumbled marble fireplace... perfect for a cozy read in the five foot bay window, a relaxing jacuzzi bath, or a restful sleep on the king sized be...we say the most romantic suite in Highlands, despite the flat screen! The guest room wears red well with double bed, TV/DVD and is paired with its own bath containing a slate walk-in shower.
Hardwood floors and pickled spruce shiplap walls throughout, stacked stone fireplace and 48 inch flat panel TV in the living area. The vibe is light, open and airy yet the cabin is filled with eclectic furnishings and purposeful art.
While surrounded by all that the interior offers, you are beckoned outside to a peaceful playground. Sip your morning beverage at the cafe table on the deck while watching the birds and ever unfolding garden. Enjoy a Highlands afternoon or evening on the lower deck around the outdoor firepit.
Tear yourself away from Cabin Bascom and enjoy all the conveniently located world class amenities that the Highland area has to offer.
Please inquire about other Highland's properties, The Roost & Foxdale Cottage at Mirror Lake.

Great cozy spot for a couple- not sure we could fit 4, we needed the second bedroom for a dressing area- but a very good and affordable option for 2. Technically walkable to town, but we didn’t. Very accessible to walking trails and the arts center. Very nice kitchen and living area. Would recommend!

Parking space is small, just off the street with cars passing next to our car. Steep, short, awkward entry; dangerous when wet - which it often is in Highlands. Wedged into the corner of two roads. Dresser drawers fall out when opened. Poor lighting. Lower garden level covered in litter. Grill was covered but leaf litter all over it too. To the good: nice appliances, dishes, glassware and knives in the kitchen.

great location for hikers since Mill creek trails are across the street. Unless you are in good condition walking to town difficult because of hill.

Location was great- not right in town but close enough we could have walked to town via trails near our VRBO. The cottage was cute, big enough for our needs and was everything we wanted!
We would definitely stay here again!

Adorable little cabin is an 11 minute walk to Main St, in a quiet neighborhood. It included everything we needed, except toiletries (I always bring my own anyway so it was no problem). We were disappointed that a recent storm had knocked out the living room fireplace and TV and could not be restored during our stay. We loved the sound of the rain on the metal roof.

Perfect weekend getaway.

Will visit again

My wife and I spent the long NYE weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Property had everything we needed. Location was great! Pictures don’t do it justice.

This cute cabin is tucked in the trees a few blocks off the main street. We enjoyed the quiet and peacefulness. I loved the big soaking tub and wished it was cool enough for the gas logs that separate the bedroom from the tub. I baked a cake while I was there and had everything I needed for measuring ingredients, etc. If I visit Highlands again, I would definitely try to get the same house.

We felt very comfortable and safe. The property is near town but isolated enough that you are not disturbed by all the hustle and bustle of town. Tv reception is not great but we spent very little time inside.
Perfect for us!

Spent 3 nights here with our family while we attended wedding festivities in the Highlands. The cottage was perfectly located near everything. It was well appointed, clean and homey. It was the perfect alternative to staying in a hotel for our family.
It was absolutely gorgeous, and we hope to make it back again in the future to continue exploring.
The host was extremely responsive and takes great care of the property. We are grateful we had the opportunity to stay there.

The location of this property in Highlands is great and very convenient, however, the pics on the property page are not accurate. With the owner having a store less than three minutes from the property and guests arriving, you would think the exterior would be inviting and clean, which was not the case. Leaves were were so thick in front of the door we had to use our feet to clear them from blowing inside. Once inside we discovered two sliding glass doors that did not lock at all but had a block of wood in the rail, which was about four inches too short in both so a person could reach into the room through the door. Additionally, the second bedroom was not pictured on the site, and when we opened the door it was terrible. In the corner was a washer/dryer with a curtain rod going all the way across the room. The lamp was sitting on a bar stool. No drapes on the front door or master bathroom by the toilet/shower area. With construction going on across the street and uphill from the location workers could see straight into our place which made my wife very uncomfortable. Needless to say, we ended up improvising and put black garbage bags over the windows with paint tape. We ended up leaving a day early as it was not a great place to stay. Also, as you have two gas fireplaces, you need to have a carbon detection alarm in place which resulted in our not using them. Nice location but it could be a lot better. Shame on you VRBO for allowing places to be presented in a manner they are not. You need to have EVERY room shown when looking at a property.

Lovely accommodations. Was hoping the trail to town would be easier-but definitely not for girls in cute shoes! Still a close drive. Very cozy.

Cute little place close to town. We walked the trail through the woods several times which was just beautiful. There is a mountain creek close by and along the hike to the town which we both loved. We were hoping to do some work from the house but internet was very slow, so we needed to find other alternatives.

Long weekend in Highlands
This was our third time staying at the cabin. We especially love the fire pit and we’re able to spend a couple of nights by it roasting marshmallows and making s’mores and having hot chocolate and wine.
The cabin is clean and comfortable and was well equipped with all that we needed.
We will definitely be back!!!!

We rented the house over the holidays and it was a perfect house in a great location. Very close to town but tucked away in a neighborhood close to the greenway, it was quiet and comfortable. We could walk into town easily and also walk through the neighborhood for exercise and fresh air. The house was very cozy. It was right size for our family. One teenager slept in the second bedroom and the other one slept on the couch and was comfortable. I would recommend this house for a family or close friends.
The master bedroom has a bathroom attached that has a fireplace between the bedroom and bathroom that you can see through, so just be aware of this if two people are sharing the master bedroom. This was not a problem for us.

The property was very cute. The weather was not good but it didn’t matter because we had two fireplaces that we used on a regular basis. It was the perfect size! So much better than staying in a hotel room for a few days.

Overall the property was as expected with a couple of notable exceptions. IMO most people would enjoy staying here should give it serious consideration. The cottage on the inside was well appointed with a number of upgrades in decor, comfort and amenities. Examples: the king size bed in master suite was extremely comfortable with plush pillows, sheets and comforter: the gas fireplaces were easy to use and provided the right atmosphere for a cabin in the woods; the hot water was quick to get and plentiful making the jacuzzi tub in the master bath great for two even being very deep for soaking; there were numerous quality decorator pieces throughout; the kitchen was complete with fridge, oven/stove, microwave, disposal, dishwasher, etc. all working as they should; woodwork throughout the cabin on floors, walls, and ceilings with solid wood panel doors; there were more than adequate dishes, glasses, pots, pans, as well as towels and bath linens; very easy/doable walk to town using the Green Way or streets. However, there were some flaws that need to be corrected. While there were 3 TVs none of them had High Definition that we could find of any channels. Unless we are wrong and it was our fault all TVs need to be replaced with larger more up to date models with high def cable. While there was more than adequate light fixtures there were 4 light bulbs that did not work and were in critical places for close up work such as reading. Maids should have caught this and replaced bulbs or notified owner to replace.
The outside landscaping needs a major overhaul with some of the design features such as the green gate and benches being dilapidated.
Finally it needs to be noted that a cabin directly across the narrow lane is being renovated with outside machinery being used as well all wood prep work being done outside with hammering, sawing, etc. occurring on the front porch. While the owner can’t control other people renovating their properties we should have been alerted that this work was being done so that we could determine if we wanted to rent the property.
It has been noted in other reviews that during leaf falling time that some neighbors blow their yards making noise. We expected this but did not expect one neighbor who blew leaves for two solid hours on a few days. The real problem was that he was not just blowing his yard but the streets in all directions!

The property is a very nice property. It needs window coverings on some of the windows for privacy. There was no dish soap, paper towels, hand soap in the kitchen, no bath soap or shampoo.

Cozy cottage with easy access to town. Very quiet.
