About this house rental
(Clarification on cancellation policy: We will fully refund your $$ if we can still find a renter and we will try to do so. That's just not one of the options on vrbo.)
We've lived in this house for ten years and guests never fail to marvel the first time they walk in. There are windows and views in every direction and the woodwork and design are simple yet warm and beautiful.
The floor plan is open so that the windows and views are shared by the whole living area. There are two large decks, one up high for sun and one below for shade. The decks look out over the water towards the seals and sunset. A grill is provided.
The first floor has a new lounge area / office / bedroom (two pullout sofas) with clear views of the water, a small but full bath and laundry room. The second floor contains the main living area, bedroom (queen bed, desk, large walk-in closet) and full bath. The large loft is above the bedroom, facing the LR and the views, and also has a queen bed and desk, with room for blow-up mattresses.
The kitchen has all of the usual appliances and is well equipped for cooking and eating. The large kitchen island has seats for three and the dining room table expands to seat six comfortably.
There is a large lawn and a dock, with a ladder for the swimmers. Kids get a kick out of crabbing from there and anyone might catch a mackerel. Out a little ways are rocks that are usually covered with seals. There are nearby hiking paths and, if you have kayaks, you can access local islands with paths and bald eagles. Our local conservation group (https://www.coastalrivers.org/preserves-trails/properties-town/) sponsors hiking trails all around the area. Pemaquid has one of the most photographed lighthouses on the east coast, as well as a wide sand beach. Damariscotta has a number of stores for browsing and many excellent restaurants. Camden, Rockland and Boothbay Harbor (including their botanical gardens) are within an hour. South Bristol, just three miles down the road, is a picturesque lobstering village, where you can get boiled lobsters on the cheap at the Lobsterman's Co-op or fine dining and/or live music at Coveside. Monhegan Island makes for a fantastic day trip out to sea, including hiking with stunning views, limited but yummy food and a brewery. There is much to do...if you're motivated to leave the relaxation at home!
A note on pets: Up to 2 dogs or cats are welcome so long as the owner will vouch for their being well-behaved and plan on vaccuuming up hair. Also, if your pooch(es) are prone to barking or howling when left alone or within earshot of another dog, please plan to muzzle them. Your immediate neighbors will thank you and the sound really carries when the water is calm.
(One person asked that I reiterate that we have a TV but do not have cable. An HDMI cable is connected to the TV and there is a USB port on the TV so that you can connect your PC or phone.)

We come to Maine every year to recharge after the school year ends and Becky’s house was the perfect respite. Off the beaten path in South Bristol, you can visit local lobster coops, hike nature preserves or our favorite, catching crabs and kayaking from the house’s dock. But a quick 20 minute to hour drive can take you more “touristy” spots. The kitchen had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and Kirsten was the perfect host with her timely responses to questions. We hope to come back!!

This rental was absolutely lovely. The light flowed in all the windows and was just perfect. The deck is great for enjoying that morning tea or late afternoon glass of wine. While the road was not good for walks with the dog, there were lots of preserves and quieter roads to explore. The kitchen is very nice and user friendly. The owners are very nice and extremely responsive. I can highly recomnend this home and will be considering returning.

This property is located on Long Cove along the Damariscotta River. An incredibly beautiful location. Every morning I would get up and take my chocolate lab down to the shoreline for a swim. If you come here always bring a pair of binoculars. Each morning we would see seals feeding in the river and if the tide was anywhere mid-tide to low tide you can see 15 to 20 seals sunning themselves on the rocks in the middle of the river. Geese and ducks also round out the picture, so there's always plenty to look at. It's easy to forget where you came from when you're here. Very peaceful and beautiful.... Also interacting with Kirsten was a pleasure and very easily done, she was very responsive to any questions we had.

The house was perfect! It was clean and fully loaded with everything we needed and then some! The view was amazing. We absolutely loved watching the seals and getting up close to them and playing hide and seek made my week! Thank you!

The elevated views of the water are excellent. The ample windows coupled with the skylights made the space bright even on cloudy or rainy days.

As soon as we drove down the private lane and pulled in beside the house and looked around and gazed at the beautiful private setting and the river, we knew we were going to enjoy it...and we did. The well maintained and updated home with the open floor plan and view of the river was perfect. Everything was very clean. We vacation in Maine often and this might be our favorite.

We loved staying here and kayaking right out front. The dock made it very easy to get in and out. Loved the house, it stayed cool and was well equipped for us to cook and stay comfortably

We have been coming to Pemaquid peninsula for many years and this place was one of the best we've stayed at - a real gem. The house is gorgeous, private, views are spectacular, the pictures don't do it justice. Kristen and family were incredibly welcoming and gave us useful list of places to visit, some of which were even new to us. The kitchen was really well stocked, plenty of great linens, any questions answered immediately. I could go on and on, we will definitely be back.

Becky’s house is a quintessential Maine retreat. We kayaked on the Damariscotta River from our backyard. The village was lovely. We went to an evening movie and a jazz concert and the local library. Perfect vacation spot.

Wonderful ability to text with owners. Remote in the most positive sense: no noise other than seals, eagles, gulls and Ospreys. Everyone we met became an instant friend. The house is a dream come true for owner; great design

Restful, relaxing, cozy place with all the comforts of home. The decks were amazing! We enjoyed every minute of our stay and hope to return next summer!

This was a very nice property and would definitely go there again. However, we did have guests and did not get that the first floor that you walk into , although an apartment on its own with small bathroom, washer, dryer and doors to the outside deck on that level (nice) had a pull out queen sofa rather than a bed. My sister is on in years and although a trooper it was a little for her to sleep on. But for another family might work really well. Everything else was great. There is a dock which was nice to walk out to every morning. Also great there was a fisherman coop 3 miles away where we got fresh lobsters and they steamed them for us. We had a fire in the firepit at night, lots of hiking trails, golf close by and Boothbay harbor was only 30 minutes away. And if you are into artisans there were many along the way. Darrimoscotta is also 9 miles from the house with shops and restuarants.

The cabin in the woods had real Maine charm. The location couldn't have been better for exploring the Mid-Coast of Maine. Easy 30 minute drives to Camden, Rockland, and Boothbay. The dock was a real plus and the sunsets were amazing every night. There was even a fire pit and kindling (we were too busy exploring the area to use it but hope to next time!). Listening to the harbor seals and the wolves at night added to the rustic charm. The downstairs sleep sofa was a surprise as we thought it was a second queen bedroom (that makes a difference for us old folks and having a private bathroom on the same floor as the bedroom!) We juggled the sleeping and the other couple used the amazing queen loft and first floor bathroom. Otherwise, this rental is great and perfect for a relaxing and renewing Maine getaway.

Accurate as described, very nice location. Only reached out to owner once and got response very quickly. Everything worked and was clean.

Kristen stopped by most days and was helpful with directions. The home does not have air conditioning so it gets quite hot with the afternoon sun. We couldn’t figure out how to lock the doors so we never did. The house is situated off route 129 on a long rock driveway. Very private except for renters next door. Overall we enjoyed the location and our stay.

There are many reasons to rent this house, but for us the number one reason was the spectacular beauty of sitting on the house dock and enjoying the spectacular beauty of the bay/cove/river. The Zombie calls of the seals were also great, as was sighting a pair of eagles and the many other sea birds

Loved the house. Had everything one could possibly imagine.
Beautiful view over the water. The place was open, airy and very comfortable. Located on a private lane. Would definitely return to this place. Communication with owner was easy.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. Great views from the dock and relaxing hours on the multiple decks. Kirstin was very helpful and quick to respond to questions. The property was very quiet with only the sounds of birds and the occasional seal. The kitchen was very nicely stocked with everything we needed. We also enjoyed the preserve a mile down the road. The whole experience was a treat and we hope to be back.

I could not have been more delighted. The secluded - but convenient - location, on the Damariscotta River, with wonderful light and sunsets, was ideal. I loved having the piano, space, balconies, windows, and a great kitchen! Owner communication was personal, quick and helpful. Just a wonderful respite for me - and recommended for others!

The cottage was better than expected! It was clean bright and very well appointed. It was also very private. We will definitely stay again if the opportunity arises!

Such a beautiful spot to relax and re-charge. Even with dreary weather, it's hard not to appreciate everything this house and the area has to offer. Definitely a place to visit again!

We were so sad to leave and hope to be back next year!!!

Great property with very friendly and helpful owner. Located in a quiet harbor off the river. It is a cove often referred to as "seal cove" for good reason the seals love the rocks just off the dock. Quiet and off the beaten path location for a great getaway.
