About this cabin rental
Welcome to the Homestead Nature Lodge. We’re so glad you have found us here along our magical creek in Western North Carolina. Snug in the Appalachian region, you’ll find yourself surrounded by ancient mountains, rushing creeks, countless hiking trails, twinkling stars in the night sky, private campfires and some of the most unique native trout fishing in the region. Whether you’re traveling with family or a group of friends, we know you’ll find a treasured blend of relaxation, fun, and the perfect backdrop for making memories together.
So, why the Homestead Nature Lodge? Well, that’s an easy one. At Huffman Creek Retreat, you’re getting much more than just a cabin. You’re practically getting a whole state park experience to yourself! Once you arrive there’s really no reason to leave. Enjoy the miles of private hiking trails that will take you to waterfalls, lookouts, our own meditation / picnic shelter, and even a plane crash! Keep an eye out for blackberries, mushrooms, singing birds, and beautiful blooms along the way. Prefer a little less adventure? No worries. Grab a book and relax by the creek in one of our hammocks or simply soak in the cool creek water after a restorative yoga flow on the massive back porch.
If you’re traveling with a group bigger than a couple, there’s a chance you’ll have a mix of personalities. Some will hope to sleep in late, other’s will want a breakfast spread at sunrise, and some may stay up late into the night watching the stars. The Homestead’s 3-story layout is purposefully designed to accommodate just that. With a private suite on the main and lower level and a bunk room and 4th bedroom on the upper level, you can spread out and enjoy your vacation on your own timeline.
After a day of adventure, prepare a meal in the kitchen or out on the grill by the fire and opt for an inside meal together or out on the huge back porch with a view of the fireflies in the summer of falling leaves in autumn.
After a few days at Huffman Creek Retreat, you’ll be ready for life’s next adventures and only wishing you could stay a few days longer.

My family & I had a great time. This is the 1st cabin I've been to that had such a well stocked kitchen where I had to put away everything I brought up there. The location & property were beautiful. You can do some serious hiking on the land around the cabins. The cabin was clean & everything we expected it to be. Kali the property mgr is so helpful & sweet. We'd definitely come back again.

Driveway was rocky and hard to navigate on bikes. Basement smelled of mold and mildew so wasn’t able to use bedroom due to intense odor. Shower water pressure was inconsistent and made showering not easy. Also doesn’t drain well leaving you standing in water. Wall unit hvac in main bedroom didn’t work.

Our group of 5 adults stayed for one week with our dogs. The cabin was plenty big, the beds were comfortable, and we had all the kitchen equipment we needed for preparing our meals. We especially appreciated the opportunities to hike on property, near beautiful streams, with the dogs. We would definitely consider returning to Huffman Creek Retreat.

We enjoyed every moment of this beautiful cabin we have stayed here before nobody bothers you I enjoyed waking up to the sound of the creek the only one thing I didn’t like was the couch had dog hairs other than that the cabin was very clean I would rate this 5stars+++

The directions to the property were spot on. The house was spotless and very nice. The only thing that might give someone caution with rent this house is that you have to go back a gravel road to get to it. If you're an inexperienced rider you may have a problem. We did not have any issues with bringing in our trailer or riding in and out. A group of Harleys didn't seem to have a problem either. I just think that you should know. We are looking forward to booking this property again. We had a great time and loved the house.

Great place to get away from it all. However, floors and rugs were very dirty, only two trays of ice in freezer for family of nine, and showed pictures of gas logs, but were not usable.

It was an awesome home! Thank you for sharing it with us. I am 62 and hiked up to the plane crash! It was a rough climb but was well worth it. We had the best time of our lives! The house was plenty big enough. So many trails and waterfalls.

5 of us stayed there for 7 nights. And I can truly say that we had a great time. We saw a lot of different sights that were absolutely beautiful. Even if I give the grill a rating of a 1. I still give the cabin a 5 star rating. I would recommend replacing the grill with a better char coal grill with a lid. So you can cook your food better. I can truly say that who ever stays there I hope that they have as good a time as we did. Thank You

Christmas 2021
Our daughters are nurses and have to work on Christmas, so we do our Christmas when they are available. Every other year we take a family vacation around Christmas so we can all celebrate together. This year we had 8 adults and 3 dogs.
This property was perfect! Not only did we have enough bedroom space, but the living and kitchen areas were big enough for us to feel comfortable. The cabin was well stocked, beautiful, and I loved the sound of the water at night. The area was beautiful and we enjoyed hiking and the scenery was amazing.
This was probably the best property management that I have ever dealt with! We were originally double booked with another family, but they quickly worked that out. We were able to have fire wood delivered - so inside fires and campfires were no problem. I loved their directions and descriptions that they sent us: don't trust Google for directions because Google lies, print your directions because you will loose cell service in the mountains, don't bring fancy cars, and don't bring your pet tarantulas! 12/10 property!

Thumbs up for the Homestead
We had a wonderful three night stay at The Homestead. It was a little more off the beaten path than we had realized when we booked, but once we got there, we didn't want to leave. We enjoyed the rocking chairs on the front porch, fires in the firepit, playing pool, and hiking around the area. There was even a dance hall! Would highly recommend!

Two far from everything! Cabin needs an update!
The property was clean but after a rain the basement leaked, carpet soaked, and became musty. We were all coughing by the time we left. The Creek was very small. Not a trout stream as shown. Frank ( on site) was the best thing about this cabin. He came to fix the air conditioner in bedroom (which was the only one on the main floor) , tried to fix hot tub which worked one day, brought dehumidifier for downstairs flood, and replaced a rotted plank on deck. He was very helpful with hiking and area info. The last day the washer stopped working and the handle fell off of the oven door but he was on vacation. We didn’t want to bother him anyway!

Pictures can be discieving
Property could be very nice but poorly maintained. Upstairs window air conditioner had an area 12“ x 8“ of bat excrement. Had to call the property manager to clean it off. Kitchen is poorly stocked with dishes and utensils and some pans were extremely dirty. Dirty coffee maker had to call and have it replaced. Lost power twice. Washer stopped working twice due to a malfunctioning outlet. Nine of us each one only got one thin white towel and hand towel. Oven dirty self cleaning control didn’t work. Other people’s clothing found under beds. Instructions when leaving was to wash towels and strip bed linens, sweep floors!!!!!! Do you think everyone uses hot water and Clorox to sanitize the linens???????? Shower curtains in two of the bathrooms were actually brown had to take it off and soak it in the bathtub in Clorox disgusting!!!! Downstairs has a 4 to 5 gallon dehumidifier , was full when we arrived .Tank had mold inside ,I had to soak in Clorox. We had to empty it every 24 hours it would fill to the top.Informed property manager of how dirty the unit was. He stated the cleaning lady spends a lot of time in there. My response was doing what!!!!!!!

Great Memories
I stayed at this home in May 2021, during the weekend/week of Mother’s Day, which was also my mother’s 80th birthday. We are a family of five, however, extended family joined us which made it a party of 11. The property was just like the picture advised. This cabin made me feel like I was at home, it was amazingly comfortable and cozy. It was clean outside in, and my entire family felt the same. They were so excited, and we immediately felt like this stay was going to be a great memory. I am a Big City (NYC, Brooklyn) girl, heels and pearls and I said, no one can take me out of my heels. Well, my vacation to Hoffman Creek changed that thought. Listen, great cabin home, great hospitality without contact, grounds keepers were helpful, and the home was clean, including the hot tub. We immediately started discussing our return for next year. My new Cabin away from home. I recommended this home to family members, friends, co-workers/colleagues, and if you are reading this review, I recommend it to you. It was a great home away from home up in the mountains. Again, nice, and cozy, and private, if you are looking for that. Also, the supermarket in town was greatly stocked with everything; and it was about 25 minutes from the Cabin. My husband bragged about how much of a good job I did with booking this cabin. I wish the owner- Hunter Turner and the family many blessings as they continue to rent out this cabin. Thank you!

Beautiful property
Very cozy and comfortable house. Beautiful area close to the creek with great trails and nice views, lots of great places to relax like the hammocks and ferris wheel seat swings. We didn’t even have to leave the property! The hot tub was a little dirty but other than that the house was clean. Over all great trip, we will definitely be coming back!

Unbelievable memories made here over a white Christmas
We’ll always look at this property as a little piece of our hearts and home, we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. 2020 has been a rough year and this was a long awaited reuniting of family over Christmas. My sister brought my brother in law and my husband and I flew in our older children and brought our two littles from home. We had read the reviews and knew during winter it would be rough roads so we planned with groceries and basically shut in for the week. From s’mores by the campfire to building snowmen in Christmas Eve and giving our littles their first snow and a white Christmas, to jacuzzi time and game nights this property was absolutely perfect. The nights were cold outside but we were all perfect inside, towels, blankets were perfectly adequate. Tucker was so awesome about special requests, from providing firewood to having a Christmas tree readily available. The surroundings were picturesque- we hiked and were in awe of the mountainside and stream you can hear from the property. We all agreed we would come back, it felt like home!

70th Birthday Vacation
We stayed at Homestead for four days and the cabin was very nice. The photographer was amazing because they made the inside of the cabin look gigantic! The pool table was missing chalk and the air hockey table needs to be replaced. There was enough firewood for a day or two and after that you should look for downed trees or buy some firewood from town. The property is beautiful and the creek is wonderful! My family gad a blast which makes all my gripes seem petty. We would come back again!

Comfortable cabin. Pure mountain environment.
7 days in this cabin were a real pleasure. Real mountain cabin completely made of wood. You must take into account the distance from the cabin to the nearest town. 30 minutes minimum. Also, the last mile is off road where I would consider using an SUV type vehicle. Every day it was dry but I think that in the rain it would be a bit complicated. 4x4 would be the ideal. Sedan vehicles do not recommend it. Likewise, if you carry motorcycles, sports will not pass the gravel. Only dual sport and full off-road motorcycles could enter and exit without major problems. The location of the cabin is very close to the main and famous mountain routes of eastern North Carolina. Very nice roads. Internally the cabin needs some updates in furniture, carpet and kitchen utensils. But with what it has this decent. The Wi-Fi service is very weak, it only serves for messages and some internet. There is no cell phone service. A single tv in the living room. In general the cabin is not bad if you want to escape from humanity. The surroundings for climbing and walking is excellent. Very nice everything.

Vacay
Although the lodge was 30 minutes from town and a little rough terrain getting too, we really enjoyed our stay at the Homestead. There was plenty of room for the 10 of us and being outside by the campfire was so peaceful. We had a fulfilled week zip lining, white water rafting, hiking, and train ride with the railroad.

My family and I visited this property in the summer and the temp was perfect. When we first got there and realized it only had units in the windows we thought oh no we are going to be hot but nope, we were so wrong. The house stayed cool the whole time. Second there where no Mosquitoes! That was another plus. The beds were so comfortable. I told my husband I needed him to buy me one just like them. There were so much room in the house and it was me and my husband, 5 gown kids, my sons girlfriend and their 5 year old oh and our pup. The house and property was amazing. The hike in the mountains was like no other we have ever done so if you hike it bring lots of water. We are from the Washington DC area it is super busy so coming to this retreat was like a shut off to the world. The sounds of the water all day and all night was so relaxing. The guy (who I did not get his name) who works there ( you will see him on his golf cart) is the sweetest happiest man ever. Check in and out was so easy and the owner is fast at responding. It is a must to stay here you will not regret it, it is beautiful. A big thank you to the owner. The only thing I regret is not booking for longer

Tranquility with style
This is an absolutely beautiful property with tons of hiking trails that lead to attractions such as falls, tree platforms, and even a crashed plane high on the mountainside. Everything you could want in the way of comfort while being surrounded by creeks and streams. Frank, who helps maintain the property, is knowledgeable, helpful and adds to the nostalgia of the place. One of the best family vacation spots we have visited.

We had a really wonderful stay at Homestead in Huffman Creek Retreat. The owner is very responsive and helpful. We didn’t realize the grills weren’t propane and the owner lent us some of their charcoal and lighter fluid in about 10 minutes we had it.
The property is a bit difficult to get to using dirt and gravel roads, but well worth it. It is in the most beautiful woods with many trails on the property. We hiked up to some falls on the property and my partner hiked to a plane crash site. Both could be pretty strenuous hikes for those not used to hiking in the mountains, but worth the effort if you can make it. We had two kids with us 7 and 9 and they were able to make the hike to the falls. There is a creek that you can hear from the porch making for a nice peaceful morning or evening in the porch. Don’t forget your citronella and bug spray. The bugs are plentiful. The lightning bugs we were able to watch at night are a real treat.
The location of the property is great too. We went to The Nantahala and Cherokee Natiinal Forests from there. The Bald River Falls are amazing and not to be missed. We also rented a boat about 20 min away to spend a day on Lake Santeetlha. That was such a beautiful lake with the mountains all around and great fir swimming as well.
It really is a great location.

Beautiful Place in the mountains
This property was in the heart of this mountain! You could hear the stream from the house and the view were wonderful! The house was perfect for our large family! My family enjoyed hiking to the waterfall and our grandsons loved hiking to the water and up the mountain side! We built a fire and roasted marshmallows and my family enjoyed the hot tub! I was worried about being warm with the space heaters but we actually had to turn them down due to getting too warm! Frank the manager was quick to respond the first night we got there and was very helpful and friendly! We hope to go back and stay again!
