Located at the end of a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood street practically on the banks of the Sandy River, this rustic yet modern Rhododendron cabin has everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors in style. You'll love sitting outside and watching the beautiful river rush by while you wake up with your first cup of morning coffee. Spacious and open, this home is filled with familiar and positive vibes, and is dressed in charming decor. Step inside and leave your muddy boots and gear in the mudroom before heading into the house. (Remember to take advantage of the private washer and dryer to knock out your dirty duds!) The well-appointed living room features a handsome gas fireplace surrounded by lots of comfy furniture, the perfect place to entertain your guests while preparing tonight's home-cooked meal in the remodeled full kitchen. Boasting glistening tile countertops, terrific appliances, and plenty of cookware, this space is perfect for the accomplished family chef or culinary novice alike.
Downstairs, you'll find a full bathroom, a private library, and lots of board games to challenge the kids with. Upstairs, a cute loft area enjoys a daybed with a trundle and a small chair, plus the bedroom. This main bedroom features a king-size bed, ideal for spreading out to finish your favorite novel before dozing off. This bedroom also has a half-bathroom, a sitting area great for reading, and access to a balcony that overlooks the river. Between this bedroom, the daybed in the loft, and the sofa bed in the living room, this home can accommodate everyone comfortably. Use the free WiFi to research your next Rhododendron adventure, stream movies and music to your devices, or to find fun new recipes to play around with. Outside the living room, a furnished deck faces the river, so you can kick back to watch the water or eat an al-fresco lunch on a sunny afternoon. The kids will have a blast romping around the backyard with the family dog while you build a cozy fire in the outdoor firepit, the ideal place to enjoy a night of stargazing with hot, toasted marshmallows.
Rhododendron, a small town about an hour east of Portland, lies in a heavily-wooded, beautiful area along the river. On the other side of the highway is Welches, where you can play golf or stock up on groceries at the Thriftway. Just a few miles away, you'll find excellent mountain biking on the Sandy Ridge Trail. Plus, there are a plethora of hiking options, as well as good river fishing. And if your early-morning donut and coffee routine is a must-have, Sandy (under a 20-mile drive west) has a great donut shop, as well as many larger stores and restaurants. Of course, Mt. Hood waits just to the east of this vacation home, and a nearly 21-mile drive will get you to Timberline Lodge, where you can enjoy amazing skiing and snowboarding, or just building snow sculptures. However, you may just want to sit in your cozy rental home and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace while listening to the roar of the river.

We have stayed here before and love it. The place is well stocked, clean and decorated nicely. It is homey and comfortable. It’s perfect for my husband and I. We will book again.

The house is clean and cozy and the kitchen is great- well stocked. We enjoyed the little path along the river and the firepit as well. We liked it so much that we got late check out! Thank you!

This is our second time staying at the Roaring River Retreat and once again we had a great experience. The cabin is relaxing and cozy and clean. It is nice to be able to walk the property and see the river so closely. It is close to several coffee shops and hikes. We loved our stay and look forward to another one next year!

Clean, cute, charming! 300ft from the Sandy River! Just beautiful. A true getaway. A place to decompress…

We absolutely loved it. My son came home on leave from Japan and wanted to stay in the mountains. The cabin was clean and welcoming. Beds were comfortable. Amazing place.

The house was beautiful and perfectly located. The kitchen is fully stocked with a microwave, dishwasher, blender etc. We bought groceries and ate two meals at nearby locations, but the best part was feeling at home at the house. The decor is beautiful and planned from the themed tiles on the wall, to the wood cut sculptures, blankets and even the built in bottle opener on the front porch. The house has great energy. I came home feeling recharged, but could have stayed a full week and not just a weekend.

House well maintained. Can hear the river from the house. Walk to river requires crossing a few minor obstacles, but it's relatively easy and definitely worth it.

This was a cute little cabin! It was perfect for a weekend getaway for two. Make sure to eat at the Rendezvous restaurant. Very good- high quality for a small town.

Cozy cabin with steep stairs going up to bedroom.
Best stocked kitchen I've ever seen--all equipment necessary to prepare a lavish dinner.
Saw a big deer outside the first day!

I'll give high marks to the property, but unfortunately the area wildfires created so much smoke that we had to cut short our stay from four nights to one night. When we arrived, the AQI was over 215 and we could not open any windows. The next morning we drove up to a pass and could barely see the mountain through the smoke.
AN FYI as smoky summers appear to be the new "normal" - the current policy does not recognize the effects of area wildfires as an acceptable reason to receive a refund on the property.
Hopefully we can return some day to hike the area. If that occurs, we would consider staying here.

The stay was quite and peaceful but it would have been nice to know that there was no TV or at least a radio . Sitting on the porch is nice for the first hour but the photos are deceiving, there is no view because it's so overgrown you can hear the river but can't see it even though it 50 yards away. The wooden bench gets to ya quick and after the bear tore into the shed while we was there sitting on the porch didn't seam like that bright of an idea. Inside is as what one would expect from a cabin if your ok with sitting there staring at the walls it's great but not for three days. Granite we was there during summer in a ski town . We ended up leaving a day early because of the bordum. Bed was comfy but no AC and everything was clean and if it was there it worked as it should.

The location is absolutely gorgeous. A small path at the back of the yard takes you to a secluded beach and river access. Home is very nice, clean and has everything you could need for a awesome vacation. Very dog friendly. Stays nice and cool in the summer.

Near the water and has everything you need for a perfect getaway. Don’t count on the twin beds for adults.

We loved our short stay at Roaring River Retreat! The sound of the river was just what we needed to unwind for a few days. The kitchen is well stocked, so we were able to cook some lovely meals with relative ease.

Overall very clean. Cobwebs on the lamp. The small bed is very uncomfortable. A soft topper would take care of that problem. Master bed is awesome!! Great stove and refrigerator! Nice view from the master and dining room. Looks just like the photos. There’s a great walking pathway at the river. Go left. Had a super nice time there!

This place is clean, very nicely decorated, and nice and quiet. Perfect getaway for a weekend at Mt Hood. The river behind is absolutely gorgeous with a nice pebble walkway down. We loved it!

This is a cute cabin and very secluded, but it wasn’t great for us. The house is very clean. Kitchen is very nice. The backyard fire area by river is lovely. The problems we had is the road to the house is terrible and the neighborhood was not the nicest. The loft is not a bedroom, it is connected to the master with no door. The loft bed is unsleepable. It’s caves when you sit on it and squeaks really loud. There is not Tv of any kind. The hosts were great and the house was very clean, just wasn’t meeting our needs.
2.5 / 5.0
This is a very clean, cute, and conveniently located cabin that seems miles from everything but is really close to everywhere you may want to visit. It was a beautiful spot to get away, the river was right out the back and really the only thing that made a sound. It was very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely recommend this cabin!

This house is great escape for one person or a small family. It felt cozy and private, tucked in to the trees with access to the water, which you could hear from the whole house.
Pros
- stocked kitchen
- sounds of water and access
- Great deck
- good air flow for cooling the house at night
- secluded
- very comfortable bed
Cons
- a couple fixes would be helpful
- bumpy road in, not a big deal if you don't care about those things
- could use a good clean
Dear Vacasa, here are a couple of things to fix
- drain in bath doesn't work
- can opener broken
- lint trap needs cleaned from house to outside

We loved our weekend at Roaring River Retreat. The sound of the river and smell of the forest were amazing! We enjoyed stargazing at night and a daytrip to Trullium lake. On the downside, from the pics on line we thought we'd have better access to the river. Also the steps to the loft are super steep.

The two of us stayed in late July and it was even better than we expected.
Pros:
1) We could hear the river from our bedroom. That is a very soothing way to go to sleep.
2) The kitchen has a nice stove, microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. There is plenty of counter space and it was clean when we arrived.
3) Having a 1/2 bath adjacent to the bedroom meant we didn't have to go downstairs during the night, which is very nice.
4) There's a mud room where you can take off your shoes, and it has a door so you can close it off from the rest of the house. That's part of the secret to keeping it clean.
Cons:
1) I could do without the spider webs (some occupied, some not). They were all up high, but it was creepy to me, so we got rid of several. I could tell this would be a constant battle based on the surroundings, so it's not a huge deal, but a little more attention in that area would be good.
2) The dining room table and chairs are really large, so we felt like kids eating at the grown-up table, even though we are 5'8'' and 6'0. Again, not a big deal, but less tall people might find it inconvenient.
4.0 / 5.0
Decorated nicely. Kitchen in good order. Master bed was nice and a tiny deck too.
5.0 / 5.0
We stayed for the weekend and it was a very refreshing retreat close to the woods. The cabin is very cozy and Comfy for a family or a small group.
5.0 / 5.0
Loved the location because we wanted more remote place and there are paths along the river. We crossed a small break off from the river to get to a mostly rocky yet has some to sit on next to the river. We enjoyed all the 🌲! House is cute, clean, excellent kingsized bed. The top matress of trundle bed was a little soft for our taste but not too bad. We didn’t try the trundle. Very clean and very easy checkout. The plug to the tub wouldn’t stay closed whether we pushed down or twisted it. Maybe there is another way to do it. Kitchen is great! Regular sized washer and dryer were nice. We would definitely come again and we recommend it to those that want a quieter nature place to stay.
3.0 / 5.0
If you were using this place as a base to rest while you drove to nearby areas, it would be fine.
You could technically sleep 6 people here but it would be without privacy as there are no doors separating the rooms.
The road to get to the house was full of potholes
Decor was consistently cabin themed
Mud room was convenient to unload bags
Furniture has a strong dog smell
Big comfy chair with lamp is perfect reading nook
Kitchen has lots of dishes and cookware but could not find dry measuring cups anywhere
"A private library" is a stretch - there are a few books scattered throughout the house but not close to a library
There were a number of board games but almost every one was missing game pieces or instructions
Wifi was strong enough to stream movies
Bedroom had a monitor with no power cord
Loft area had a drawer of dvds but no dvd player found
Outside furniture and patios needed to be wiped down from debris and cobwebs - didn't use the outdoor furniture because of this
You also can't see the water from the front porch but you can hear it.
Yard is extremely overgrown - not able to utilize at all
You can walk down to the river on a path but no where to sit down there and no trails accessible from the property itself
Not sure how you would fit 2 vehicles here
Check in and check out times don't allow for whole days to stay
It was a hot summer day but the house stayed relatively cool
Fire pit chairs had something spilled on them (chocolate maybe?)
Fire pit had a lot of debri and garbage - looked like it had never been cleaned out
Large pile of dirt on coaster next to king size bed
Mold on shower curtain liner
Lots of cobwebs inside the house
Electric kettle unclean inside
Gas grill rusted out and unusable
Customer service at check in was confusing and inconsistent. We were told we would have a delayed check-in while we were on our way to the property but then received notification at the exact check in time that we could check in as scheduled.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Very secluded even though neighboring cabins are close. I stayed over July 4th so my dog wouldn't have to deal with loud noises from the fireworks in town . Unfortunately some people in a cabin nearby let off mortar type fireworks right over us until almost midnight. I will rent a different time of year if I come again. I still give this experience a 5!
5.0 / 5.0
Great place to get away from it all and unplug. Beautiful cabin, had everything we needed for our stay. The only thing that would have been nice as we were traveling with a 1 yr old would have been a pack n play.
5.0 / 5.0
Beautiful spot on the river.
We loved our stay at this home. Being spring we were able to use the fire pit. Late summer burn bans should be expected. We enjoyed the evidence of beaver activity right along the water. Great launching spot for day hikes, and also a lazy day at home reading. Loved the no tv! House was very clean and easy. Great layout with a mudroom and toilet upstairs in addition to full bath downstairs. I do plan to stay again!

Beautiful cabin on the river
Everything was perfect. But definitely don’t talk about sipping your first cup of coffee watching the river in the morning in the listing if you aren’t going to provide coffee.

Wonderful!
Absolutely loved this cabin. Really - everything about it. Proximity to river (mere steps), the firepit area, the porch, the house itself was perfect - upscale appliances, awesome gas stove, Loved the upstairs & downstairs speakers for connecting music. It was my weekend riverside /fireside "office" and I loved it. Can't wait to come back again.

A perfect getaway!
This cabin is so beautiful and cozy! It was very clean when we arrived, had all the amenities one might need, and is perfectly right next to the river. Only note is the gravel road to get to it is covered in potholes so make sure you drive slowly

Our Getaway
Beautiful home on a semi- private piece of property. We missed having a TV, but at the same time, LOVED simply hearing the river all day and night! There was a little metal bird statue on the high wall that we SWEAR had been moved from one side of the wall to the other, but that could just be our weirdness. Wish we could have stayed our full 4 days/3 nights, but had to leave a night early due to work responsibilities. Would revisit again for sure!
Oh, P.S. The kitchen was stocked PERFECTLY (a few Tupperwares would be great, but those probably "grow feet" quicker then other items), bathrooms were cute & comfortable to move around in and we're also stocked nicely! The deck is a great size and has all the necessities for outdoor, family fun. Grill, Adirondack chairs, fire pit for roasting marshmallows down by the river (wood would have been appreciated, but we were able to buy some from a nearby neighbor)! Thanks! Hope to return again soon!

Overall a great location
Beautiful setting right off of the river. Nice backyard that leads to the water. House is well accommodated with a good kitchen. Family of four fits nicely. Overall, it's a really nice place and we'd stay there again.
Issues that would have made it 5 stars: No garbage can so if you have a full bag it has to be kept in the mud room, kinda odd for a nice place. Had to call maintenance to get the gas fireplace pilot lit because something was not set up correctly. We were unable to use the fire pit due to a burn ban, which is understandable. The issue is we were not advised beforehand and we planned to have a fire each night so we had a lot of wood and camp fire based meals planned with the kids. There was a fairly aggressive sign in the house that said there was no fires allowed and if we had one the neighbors would call the fire department and we would get kicked out of the house. That along with another note saying if we are making noise after 9:00 the neighbors will call the police, we're not party people so no issue with that. However, these combined doesn't make me feel particularly welcome in the neighborhood in the rental. No issues when there, just off-putting. Vacasa could do a better job in communicating these issues beforehand instead of after the fact limitations.

Vacation in Mt Hood
We stayed here for 3 nights. We don’t have problem checking in or checking out, like the keyless door lock, the place is clean, it has everything that u will need. Kitchen has plates, bowls, cups, pots and pans. The oven has 4 options in one. Bathroom has towels, shower does clog up. There is bedding with pillows and blanket, no door so u can hear everyone snore at night. The place is safe and quiet. Washer and dryer are nice and provided detergent, they thought of almost everything u might need. We gave wonderful stay.
