The house is fantastic and just as pictured. The setting is warm and homey and very comfortable for the 5 adults when we had everyone together. We loved the small office, screened porch, and large family room. Being right on the water gave wonderful views just stepping out of the house. Sighted seals, loons, and a pair of bald eagles nests nearby for a daily visit. Couldn't ask for more!
The communication from Karen was outstanding. e weathered Hurricane Lee during our stay, and the power went out. We didn't notice it at first because of the large generator kicked on immediately. When the generator shut down, a call to Karen, and the caretaker was there in 10 minutes to get it back on.

A five star home and location. This is our second time staying at Middlegrounds. We had friends with us the first week and family the 2nd week. The home is absolutely perfect for both. Incredible water views and beautifully landscaped property. The home is just perfect..casual elegance and space for everyone to spreadout. We rented standup boards and kayaks and enjoyed seeing the seals and loons, lobster boats and sailboats. 2 weeks flew by and we are all so sad to leave this perfect Maine vacation home!

An awesome week with friends. Middlegrounds had everything we needed, plus. The house accommodated us very well and came equipped with everything. It was very convenient visiting Bar Harbor and other coastal and historic towns. Nothing but compliments from my group. Karen was great to work with. I highly recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at Middlegrounds. The house was lovely and well stocked, with beautiful views from all rooms. The kids loved the playroom and the fireplace made for a cozy November stay. Karen was very responsive and made the process very easy.

Paradise in Maine
This property is the hallmark of architectural and natural beauty. The house has a spectacular view of the ocean, in a quiet bay, with fish, seals, sailboats and kayaks. The garden has native flowers attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. The interior is very comfortable and welcoming for a large family. It is the perfect place for a family reunion .

Beautiful comfortable home in a lovely setting
This was our second stay at Middlegrounds and we loved it as much as we did the first time! The kids loved getting in the COLD water and the adults enjoyed morning coffee and afternoon cocktails on the screened porch with the fantastic view. Arborvine and Fish Net were great places to eat! We love being in Blue Hill which is close to so many interesting places.
Karen was so helpful!! We plan to come back!!!

Fabulous house and property!
My family of 9 (including our newborn grandson and 80 year old mother) stayed in this beautiful home last week and can't say enough about wonderful our stay was. The home is very spacious and perfectly laid out so that everyone had a waterfront view from their bedroom and their own bathroom. It truly felt like we were staying in a luxury private resort. The house is immaculate and beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture. The grounds are stunning as well. There is an elegant, tree lined stone patio with stairs leading down the the rocky beach as well as a separate deck for sunning just above the water. We rented a canoe and standup board and enjoyed paddling out in the bay spotting seals and loons and other marine life. Dinner at Arborvine one night to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday was fabulous as was a breakfast at Sandy's. No need to drive any further than town for groceries and restaurants. We did a couple of day trips to Acadia for hiking and also checked out Deer Island another day. Everyone agreed it was a magical week and we definitely look forward to coming back again soon!

Early June 2021
Middlegrounds is a lovely home, a large residence with plenty of space to spread out both inside and out. Our week in June served up a span of temperatures - gorgeous blue skies to a dark & stormy night, so adequate time to use the outdoor shower as well as the fireplace in the living room.
There were large containers of Spring Water from Mount Desert Island in the kitchen and we enjoyed that we did not need to purchase bottled water or recycle all that plastic. The boilers in the basement kept the showers toasty and there was a special spigot in the kitchen that dispensed hot water for tea.
The Weber grill on the deck served us well and the gas stove in the kitchen with a center griddle was great!
Lots of lovely towels and bedding made for comfy living.
We especially loved the screened in porch with 2 chairs that rocked.
The town of Blue Hill is charming - we especially loved the library with the ongoing book sale and Sandy’s cafe. Chris, owner of Action kayak, delivered to Middlegrounds and could not have been nicer.

Wow and Wow!!
Best VRBO ever and we've stayed at many! The house was BIG-larger than the pictures showed! We had 3 under 12 and 5 adults and everyone had plenty of room!! Bedrooms, bathrooms, playroom, study! Kitchen had everything (and more!) than we needed and the huge living area was cozy and comfortable!
We are wondering if we will get a bill for the SNOW though!! Yay! Being from Louisiana and Texas, this was a added treat!
Only 'downer' -didn't know we would love it so much and when we went to book for Summer 2021, it was completely booked!

Blue Hill Beauty
Middlegrounds is a magical spot. The lovely home is only surpassed by the beauty of the setting. The home was spotless and extremely comfortable. We will hope to return!

Amazing, the house, the grounds, the neighborhood, truly amazing. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing, get away from the city chaos and a real Maine experience, this place is for you. I could sit all day on the rock patio or deck and just take it all in, the eagles, the loons, the whales, the seals, and the lobster fisherman. Great food locally, even with COVID, and Acadia is only 45 minutes away. We found some great hiking trails on Deere Isle. We didn't want to leave but had to get back to reality. We will be returning.

Wonderful Property!
My husband and I stayed at Middlegrounds with our 3 year olds and our friends who had a 4 & 2 year old. The house was so spacious and the kids really enjoyed the playroom. The views were beautiful. The location was great to visit Acadia and then head down to visit some of the other places like Deer Isle and Camden. We loved Arborvine for dinner and Sandys for breakfast.

Middlegrounds is perfection
Our stay at Middlegrounds for my son’s wedding which took place at BHCC exceeded our expectations! This beautiful home has one of the premier locations providing stunning views of the harbor, it is close to downtown but on a private and secluded road and it is so peaceful. I agree that the pictures don’t do it justice as Middlegrounds is one of the most comfortable and well appointed homes we have ever rented through VRBO (and we have rented many times). Our favorite was coffee in the morning and cocktails at night on the screened in porch, and the kitchen and family room area are awesome too. There is even an office which pleases my husband who can never seem to walk away from work!! Karen was fantastic to work with and was timely and helpful throughout the process. I can honestly say that “we will be back”. I hated leaving!!!

More beautiful than the pictures!
This is a lovely home in a beautiful setting! It is the most well equipped VRBO I have ever booked. We had family from 9 months old to 71 years old and we had everything we could need. It was so nice having a bathroom for every bedroom (except the kids bedroom) and the kids big bedroom/playroom was a big hit!!
We loved the quiet mornings when we could watch the seals having breakfast and the children loved seeing all the wild life--wild turkeys, deer, and eagles. Watching the lobster boats come by and the lobstermen checking their traps was also a big treat! We all enjoyed the rocky beach and bracing water! Be sure to bring old tennis shoes or water shoes for walking on the rocks! The Activity shop brought kayaks and stand up paddle boards to us and everyone loved getting out on the water.
Blue Hill has several really good restaurants--don't miss Arborvine--and The Fish Net was a big favorite for everyone!
We took several trips to the surrounding towns and to Acadia. So many charming places to see and all within about a 45 minute to hour drive!
I can't say enough good things about Middlegrounds for a wonderful vacation. Karen was great about answering all my questions both before and during our stay. We want to come back!!!
Thanks so much, Karen!

Water's Edge and all the quiet and beauty of Maine.
You will not be disappointed! Everything you need and more. The house is everything you think you see in the advertisement, well maintained, clean, comfortable. I just can't say enough about how happy we are with our experience in Maine at Middleground. There was a full moon when we were there, you would have had to be there to see the reflection on the water. Speaking of the water it is feet from the back of the house.
Blue Hill's is a quaint little coastal town an minutes from the house, it had everything we needed and very good food! Fishnet is a must and we had some great pizza at Barn Castle, a very unique building.
We thought it was a very doable drive to Acadia and a very pretty drive.
Thank you Karen! It was lovely.

Beautiful home with spectacular views
My family and I had an amazing time. The home, property and ocean views exceeded our expectations and we had everything we could possibly need during our stay. The home was exquisitely decorated, numerous windows and bright light throughout, ocean breezes, swimming right outside our door, gorgeous outdoor sitting areas for enjoying coffee, conversation and relaxing. The bedrooms were all spacious, spotless and extremely comfortable, the kitchen was large, well lit and well stocked, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Weber grill. The home is also close to towns/shopping and only a 40 minute drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. My daughter LOVED the playroom equipped with comfy sofas, desk, play table, books, bunk beds, games and instruments, including a piano. The house was so amazing we never wanted to venture out or leave! We definitely plan to return to this oceanfront gem in the woods in the future!

A dream destination!
This property was excellent for our two traveling families! The house is very well equipped, with plenty of space for our group of 7. We enjoyed watching the boats pass by, and even saw a few fisherman come to check on their lobster traps! The location is perfect for day trips to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Rent kayaks from The Activity Shop (they deliver), and take full advantage of the water access. Awesome time!

Terrific House
We were a party of 3 adults and 2 children. The house worked well - the kids 6 & 8 loved the kids playroom with the bunk beds. There is wonderful outside space, a deck over the rocky shore and a screened porch.
Blue Hill is a lovely town with an ice cream shop (delicious) and a variety of small restaurants as well as a co-op with eat-in food. The house is 2.2 miles from the downtown area.
Acadia National Park was about 30 minutes away. Deer Isle and Stonington are about the same distance going south.
The house is relaxed and interestingly eclectic, inviting and user-friendly.

Stunning Blue Hill Home
Pictures don't lie - this house is incredible! Huge great room with fireplace, views from every room and several decks to lounge on while enjoying the seals and loons swimming by in Blue Hill Bay. We especially liked that four of the bedrooms had full private baths. Also, you can't find a better location. The house is minutes from the town of Blue Hill and a large grocery store, and no more than an hour from Bar Harbor and Acadia to the north and Belfast and Camden to the south. It takes one hour and five minutes to get to Bangor Airport. Highly recommended.
