We loved the location and where it was, perfectly placed for visiting the town or beach and near to lots of restaurants/bars for the evenings. I loved how Scarborough was dog-friendly all over more or less, it made taking our pup with us easy. I liked the garden for allowing my dog out for toileting. The provision of boogie boards/buckets and spades etc would have been great in summer. I liked that a pint of milk was left for our use.
Honestly, this cottage wasn't up to snuff and had lots of little niggles that ruined the experience.
Firstly, each room had spiders in it — and I was awoken by a large one crawling across my face and arm on the first night!
Secondly, the heating didn't work for 2.5 days (from arrival Saturday to Monday afternoon) - not ideal when it was freezing at night, this was fixed.
The washing machine leaks - I mentioned it to handyman I was told "I meant to put a note on it as I don't have time to fix it between changeovers." This meant when we had to do washing, someone was stuck watching the machine with a mop and bucket in hand lest we cause damage to the property.
The shower tray leaks at the front right corner, and the shower is loose in its holder to the point it nearly hit me on the head. It also leaks from its pipes.
I would argue for its safety for families, as you step straight out onto the road outside - Longwestgate - is used at all hours by cars going so fast you can hear them squealing! There was a good chance of getting hit every time you step outside. We had to have someone stand in the road to make it safe enough for us to leave (especially with dog!).
There was a lot of rough behaviour and even antisocial behaviour leaflets found in the kitchen about the estate; we even spent our last afternoon (Friday) being treated to a brawl outside by some children! We were frequently awoken in the night by shouting/shrieking/screeching of people & speeding cars outside which made achieving a restful sleep difficult.
I don't recommend this property for adult families, the table was not large enough for five adults to sit at and it meant someone was excluded. It's quite small and unkempt - bubbling wallpaper from condensation, dead moths in the bottom of wardrobes, cobwebs in doorways/little bathroom, sticky oven trays that we hadn't used, hair down drainpipes from previous guests. No ashtray provided.

We loved Hartwood Cottage. Cosy, clean and well equipped. Buckets and spades and body boards a bonus. Washing line for drying our beach towels and costumes. Location great for beach and shops. Great, helpful communication. Can highly recommend.

Cottage very clean and tidy, good location, close to North and South bays, ideal for 2 couples. Would definately go again.
Parking is tight, but this is normal for seaside resorts 😀
